Chapter 4 - The Floors That Watch Back

Morning bells echoed through Himalaya Academy, low and resonant, vibrating through stone and bone alike.

Dev woke to the sound with a dull ache behind his eyes.

For a moment, he forgot where he was.

Then he saw the wooden ceiling, the thin beam of sunlight cutting through the window—and the two other beds.

Vansh was already awake, sitting cross-legged and stretching like a restless tiger.

Aditya, on the other hand, was calmly folding his blanket with almost ceremonial precision.

"You both wake up like monks," Vansh muttered. "Unnatural."

Aditya didn't look up. "Discipline is the foundation of creation."

Vansh groaned. "See? He's doing it again."

Dev smiled faintly.

Before he could say anything, the dorm bell rang again—sharper this time.

Class Allocation Bell.

The Assembly of Paths

All first-year students gathered in the open courtyard. Unlike the test day, there was no tension—only curiosity.

Master Raghav stood before them, scroll in hand.

"Your breath has been identified," he said. "Now, your path begins."

He raised his voice.

"There are three compulsory classes for every student of Himalaya Academy."

A few students straightened.

"Basic Combat.

Breath Control Foundations.

And—"

He paused.

"The Grand Library."

A murmur passed through the crowd.

Even Vansh leaned forward. "I heard that place breathes back."

Aditya nodded slightly. "It does."

Dev blinked. "You've been there?"

"Only the first floor," Aditya replied. "Like everyone else."

Master Raghav continued, "Beyond these compulsory classes, specialized training will be assigned later. Observer-Class students—"

His eyes flicked briefly to Dev.

"—will follow the same foundational curriculum."

No one argued.

But many watched.

The Grand Library of Breath

The library stood apart from the academy buildings, carved directly into the mountain face.

Seven massive stone terraces rose upward, each level partially visible through carved balconies and sealed gates.

It didn't feel like a building.

It felt like something… aware.

The entrance door was a single slab of ancient stone, etched with symbols Dev didn't recognize—but his chest tightened just looking at them.

Master Raghav spoke more quietly here, as if raising his voice would disturb the silence.

"The Grand Library has seven floors," he said."Each floor corresponds to a chakra point awakened through spiritual evolution."

He gestured upward.

"The higher the floor, the deeper the understanding… and the greater the burden."

A student hesitated. "Sir… can anyone go anywhere?"

Raghav shook his head. "No. The library allows only what you are ready to face."

They stepped inside.

First Floor — The Open Foundation

Warm light welcomed them.

"This floor represents the Root Chakra," Raghav said."Foundation. Survival. Discipline. It is open to all."

Students relaxed slightly as they saw rows of books and scrolls neatly arranged.

But then Raghav raised his hand.

"Each floor is divided into four sections."

The room shifted subtly—as if responding.

Symbols glowed faintly along the walls.

Brahma Section — Creation (golden light)Vishnu Section — Preservation (deep blue)Mahesh Section — Destruction (crimson red)

And then—

A fourth pathway.

Fainter. Quieter.

Almost… ignored.

The Fourth Section — Harmony

It had no dominant color.

Instead, it shimmered softly—like light passing through water.

Some students didn't even notice it at first.

The Forgotten Path

A boy pointed. "Sir… that section doesn't look like the others."

Raghav's expression hardened slightly.

"That," he said, "is the Harmony Section."

"It is not bound to creation, preservation, or destruction."

"Anyone may enter it."

That caused more confusion.

"Anyone?" Vansh whispered. "Then why isn't everyone going there?"

Raghav's voice dropped.

"Because it is the most difficult path in this academy."

Silence returned.

"The techniques within are not about power," he continued."They are about balance."

"Perfect balance… between all breaths."

Aditya's eyes sharpened with interest.

"No one," Raghav said slowly,"has ever mastered those techniques completely."

A chill passed through the group.

"Not because they are weak," he added,"but because harmony demands something most cannot sustain."

Dev spoke without thinking. "What does it demand?"

Raghav looked directly at him.

"Control without force.Power without intent. And identity… without ego."

Dev felt something shift inside him.

The Upper Floors

Dev glanced upward again.

The spiral staircase led to higher floors—but each one was sealed by massive stone doors, each glowing faintly with a different resonance.

Raghav continued,

"The second floor corresponds to the Sacral Chakra. The third—the Solar Chakra. And so on…"

His voice slowed.

"The Seventh Floor represents the Crown Chakra."

The Headmaster's voice echoed from behind them.

"No one in this era has opened it."

Students turned.

The Headmaster stood at the entrance, calm—but his eyes carried weight.

"I have reached the sixth," he said quietly."But the seventh…"

He paused.

"…does not open."

No one dared speak.

Dev and the Fourth Section

Students began spreading out, exploring the first floor.

Most drifted toward their respective sections:

Brahma students toward gold Vishnu toward blue Mahesh toward red

The Harmony section remained… nearly empty.

Vansh crossed his arms."Yeah, I'm not touching that. Sounds like unnecessary suffering."

Aditya didn't move. His gaze was fixed on it.

"Balance of opposing flows…" he murmured."That's not just difficult. It's unstable."

Dev found himself walking toward it anyway.

Not out of curiosity.

Just… instinct.

As he stepped closer, the atmosphere shifted—subtly, almost unnoticeable.

The noise of the room dulled.

His breathing slowed on its own.

He stopped near the entrance of the section, eyes scanning the shelves.

The texts looked different.

No glowing colors. No aggressive energy.Just quiet presence.

Dev reached out slightly—then hesitated.

For a moment, he simply stood there.

Then he lowered his hand.

"Dev?" Vansh called. "You planning to become a monk already?"

Dev blinked, snapping out of it.

"…No. Just looking."

He stepped back, returning to them.

But something about that section lingered in his mind.

Not calling him.

Not pulling him.

Just… waiting.
