"Even though what you said about her loving me is true, she had established that the one she loves is you, not me," Damon said, exhausted. "Why would you say that to her?"
"Like I said," Magnus shrugged, "I'm jealous."
"Tell me the truth," Damon's voice sharpened to a blade. "Why did you say that?"
Magnus frowned. The firelight caught the angles of his face in a deep contrast.
"Is it because you want her to do something about my engagement?" Damon pressed. "You deliberately made her angry at you, for some sort of realization on her part? Some grand scheme to push her toward me?"
"Damon, I truly believe she does love you, okay?" Magnus said, carrying a raw honesty that was almost uncomfortable. "It's actually hard to make someone like me jealous. Really. And you fucking do. So why wouldn't you believe that she actually loves you?"
"Of course, for my own fucking sanity," Damon spat.
"Please be real, you're never sane," Magnus hissed, reaching for the bottle again.
