Chapter 110 - Chapter 109: Kanao’s Dilemma

Ryuya, that bastard, was like a weasel paying respects to a chicken—definitely harboring ill intentions.

At least, that was how Shinobu Kocho saw it.

Every word he said, whether praise or criticism, seemed layered with hidden meaning.

"Sister Shinobu, don't always assume the worst about people."

Ryuya lightly exhaled and tilted the empty teacup in his hand.

"Sister Shinobu, pour Big Brother Ryuya some more wisteria tea."

"Don't you have hands? And I'm not your maid. Why should I serve you?"

She shot him an annoyed glare.

He knew perfectly well that wisteria tea did nothing to him, yet he kept drinking it in front of her.

Wasn't that deliberate provocation?

The more she remembered the time she had tried to poison him with wisteria tea—only for him to drink it calmly—the angrier she became.

And when she got angry, her sword practice naturally intensified.

"Insect Breathing: Dance of the Butterfly — Caprice!"

Her body moved lightly across the courtyard. With a sharp step forward, she thrust her Nichirin Blade repeatedly.

Although her custom blade was not yet complete, her training had already begun.

Insect Breathing—the style she had derived from Flower Breathing under Ryuya's guidance—was now clearly taking shape.

Unlike traditional forms labeled First Form, Second Form, and so on, she had chosen to name her techniques "Dance."

Currently, she had mastered three:

Dance of the Butterfly — Caprice.

Dance of the Bee Sting — True Flutter.

Dance of the Dragonfly — Compound Eye Hexagon.

Each technique was inspired by insect behavior—swift, precise, venomous.

Kanae had returned inside to handle matters of the Butterfly Mansion, which functioned as the medical branch of the Demon Slayer Corps. Although Kanae had left the Corps, the mansion still maintained its medical role.

As for Ryuya, he could only guide Shinobu during spare moments while waiting for Enmu's report.

Once Enmu confirmed that Kaigaku had passed Final Selection, their operation targeting the Swordsmith Village would begin.

Ryuya swirled the tea in his cup.

This wisteria tea really isn't bad.

Perhaps he would invite Muzan and Doma for tea someday.

Just then, the wooden door of the Butterfly Mansion slid open.

A girl stepped out.

She wore her hair in a single ponytail with straight bangs. Her face was gentle and delicate. As she appeared, butterflies fluttered toward her, settling softly on her fingers.

Tsuyuri Kanao.

Ryuya's lips curved faintly.

This was his first proper encounter with her since arriving.

Kanao's pinkish-purple eyes met his.

Neither spoke.

Yet the silence felt like an exchange in itself.

"Kanao! Have you decided about what I told you?"

A bright voice called out.

Another girl emerged, black twin tails bouncing slightly. Her blue eyes were filled with urgency.

Kanzaki Aoi.

Ryuya recognized her from memory.

Kanao said nothing, only looking at Aoi quietly.

On the surface, her expression remained calm, even faintly smiling.

Inside, however, she was in turmoil.

"Oh… do I have to think about it again?"

She hated making decisions.

Last time, she had flipped a coin and gotten tails—meaning "no." So she avoided deciding.

But Aoi kept asking.

If she flipped the coin again and it landed on heads… then what?

She would have to accept, wouldn't she?

Just thinking about it made her dizzy.

"Kanao, come choose a surname."

Kanae stepped out, holding several small wooden plaques.

Each plaque bore a different surname:

Kocho.

Kanzaki.

Tsuyuri.

Honmiya.

Kuse.

"A surname?"

Ryuya moved closer, curious.

He quickly understood.

Kanao had been sold by traffickers as a child and had never possessed a surname. Even her given name had been bestowed by Kanae.

Now that she was older, it was time for her to formally choose one.

Kanao stared at the plaques.

Her scalp tingled.

Why did it have to be five?

Kocho was Kanae and Shinobu's surname.

Kanzaki was Aoi's—and Aoi looked especially hopeful.

Tsuyuri, Honmiya, and Kuse were ordinary surnames.

Shinobu walked over after finishing practice.

Upon hearing the situation, she immediately said, "Kanao should choose Kocho!"

Her eyes shone earnestly.

"If she chooses Kocho, we'll truly be three sisters."

Aoi crossed her arms. "No, she should choose Kanzaki! I want her to be my sister too. I don't want to be alone."

"She won't be alone even if she doesn't choose Kanzaki," Shinobu countered.

"Alright, alright," Kanae intervened gently. "Let Kanao decide for herself."

All eyes turned to Kanao.

Her dizziness worsened.

Big Sister… a coin only has two sides. There are five options here. How am I supposed to decide?

Her hand trembled slightly.

Save me. Someone save me.

Ryuya watched quietly.

The courtyard was filled with anticipation.

Kanao's gaze drifted toward him for a brief second.

As if silently asking—

What should I do?
