Iguro Obanai couldn't explain it.
He only knew one thing—
The girl in his arms felt different.
Special.
Someone he instinctively wanted to protect.
Even though this was only their second meeting, he didn't dislike Kanroji Mitsuri at all.
Holding her securely, Iguro launched a relentless pursuit of Hantengu.
His uniquely curved Nichirin Blade twisted like a venomous serpent, unpredictable and vicious. Every strike came from an impossible angle.
Under normal circumstances, Hantengu might have evaded him.
But after enlarging her body, she had made a fatal mistake.
Her size had become a liability.
She couldn't dodge at all.
Obanai darted around her massive frame, carving wound after wound into her flesh. He moved like an irritating, persistent flea—impossible to catch.
Hantengu's face twisted in rage and pain. She repeatedly slapped at her own back, trying to crush the two clinging figures.
But Obanai's reactions were lightning-fast.
The moment her palm descended, he leapt lightly, carrying Mitsuri to the opposite side.
Smack!
Hantengu missed again—and her own blow left her skin bruised and blood-red.
Obanai's cold eyes flashed.
Kaburamaru, coiled around his neck, slithered down his arm with perfect understanding.
The white snake hissed.
Green venom dripped onto the Nichirin Blade, sizzling faintly.
"Serpent Breathing, Fifth Form: Venomous Fang Roar!"
Obanai thrust forward.
The poisoned blade pierced deep into Hantengu's back. Thick green smoke rose as the venom reacted violently.
Hantengu screamed.
"Get off me, you bastard!!"
She clawed frantically at her back while shrinking her body.
Her size-enhancement Blood Demon Art wasn't perfectly controlled. She couldn't instantly reduce herself.
She deflated gradually—
Like a collapsing balloon.
But Obanai showed no mercy.
As she shrank, her neck drew closer.
"Serpent Breathing, Sixth Form: Winding Serpent Shadow!"
His movement became serpentine, erratic, impossible to predict.
Kaburamaru's phantom flickered around him as he slashed again and again.
Blood splattered.
Hantengu collapsed heavily to the ground, her body returning to normal size.
"Die."
Obanai's blade descended toward her neck—
But from behind him—
A wave-wreathed Nichirin Blade slashed forward.
"Water Breathing, Fourth Form: Striking Tide!"
Tomioka Giyu.
Ordered to eliminate the demon snake around Obanai's neck, he had pursued them relentlessly for a full day and night.
Faced with the sudden attack, Obanai had no choice but to abandon the execution.
He leapt back, spinning midair with Mitsuri still in his arms, and deflected Giyu's blade.
"You're persistent."
Obanai's heterochromatic eyes narrowed with irritation.
Giyu said nothing.
His deep blue gaze locked onto Kaburamaru.
His objective was clear.
"Water Breathing, First Form: Water Surface Slash!"
Waves surged as Giyu swept horizontally toward Kaburamaru.
"Serpent Breathing, First Form: Winding Serpent Slash!"
Obanai countered, his blade curving sharply as a white serpent phantom extended outward.
The water blade and serpent blade collided.
Giyu stepped back two paces.
Obanai, burdened with Mitsuri, stepped back three.
"Mr. Giyu…?"
Mitsuri blinked nervously from Obanai's arms.
Giyu recognized her faintly.
"The girl Kocho brought?"
His tone was neutral.
"Are you stupid? I didn't provoke you. Why chase me nonstop?" Obanai snapped.
"That snake has become a demon. I was ordered to kill it."
Giyu's answer was blunt.
"I told you—it won't harm anyone. I'm responsible for it!"
"Orders."
That was all Giyu said before attacking again.
"Water Breathing, Tenth Form: Constant Flux!"
Like a Water Dragon, Giyu surged forward in flowing, continuous motion.
"Serpent Breathing, Seventh Form: Serpent Trapped in a City of Sorrows!"
Obanai thrust repeatedly. Serpent-like Sword Qi erupted from all directions, overwhelming Giyu.
The shrill sound resembled Kaburamaru's hiss, disorienting and oppressive.
Giyu's head buzzed.
Facing the storm of attacks, he abandoned offense.
His blade tapped lightly against the ground.
"Water Breathing, Eleventh Form: Dead Calm."
Instantly—
Stillness.
Obanai's relentless strikes twisted off course.
Every attack that should have landed was redirected by an invisible current.
Sword Qi slashed harmlessly aside.
Obanai withdrew, wary.
Dead Calm.
Impressive.
Mitsuri's heart pounded in awe.
Mr. Iguro isn't even a Hashira…
Yet he's fighting evenly with the Water Hashira!
And Mr. Giyu's Water Breathing—
It feels so gentle… so beautiful…
Meanwhile, Hantengu seized the opportunity to retreat.
She didn't understand why two Demon Slayers were fighting each other.
But she was smart enough to distance herself.
The venomous wounds on her back began regenerating.
Iguro Obanai may not be a Hashira—
But his strength felt no weaker.
Combined with Rengoku Kyojuro—
That was nearly three Hashira-level threats present.
Very bad.
Extremely bad.
Hantengu, whose entire philosophy revolved around survival, immediately grasped the danger.
This battlefield—
Was no longer safe.
