If it were any other demon, they might have subconsciously stepped forward as Shinobu suggested.
But Ryuya was far too cunning to fall for such a simple trap.
He curled his lips slightly and smiled at her.
"Sister Shinobu, it won't be that easy to kill me."
She had missed.
Shinobu pouted resentfully and struggled harder. If she could just drag him into the sunlight, he wouldn't be able to eat her.
Ryuya didn't stop her and allowed her to dart forward.
The moment she stepped fully into the sunlight, relief flooded her heart.
She had escaped death—at least for now.
"Bastard, you can't eat me anymore, can you? Hm? What's wrong? Come and eat me then! Go on!"
She placed her hands on her hips and even waved at him provocatively.
Ryuya chuckled.
"You're really adorable, but I'm not going over there. I can't let your little scheme succeed."
He turned as if to leave.
Shinobu's eyes flashed.
Now!
She lunged forward, intending to drag that hateful Ryuya into the sunlight.
But what kind of existence was Ryuya?
He was an old fox who had opened the Transparent World.
Even if Shinobu ambushed him, her movements were crystal clear to him.
He sidestepped to the right, effortlessly avoiding her grasp, and at the same time grabbed Kanroji Mitsuri, tossing her straight toward Shinobu.
Bang.
The two women collided, and the innocent Mitsuri landed squarely on top of Shinobu.
Ryuya laughed softly at the chaotic sight.
"Sister Shinobu, wait for me in front of the Eternal Paradise Cult tonight. Don't run around."
"Wait for you? Who wants to wait for you?! Bah! I won't listen to you!"
Shinobu struggled to push Mitsuri off her as she shouted angrily at his retreating figure.
"Oh! Oh! Why did I fall?!"
Mitsuri sat up, completely bewildered.
She had just been standing there…
And suddenly she was airborne.
"Mitsuri, let's go."
Once Ryuya disappeared, Shinobu gradually regained her composure.
She knew this place was dangerous.
But it was daytime. Even Upper Rank Two couldn't step outside into the sun.
Still, she had to report this to the Demon Slayer Corps.
Upper Rank Two was the leader of the Eternal Paradise Cult.
And she would absolutely tell her sister everything that bastard Ryuya had done to her.
Her arm still throbbed where he had bitten her.
Hateful guy.
As Mitsuri followed beside her, she asked hesitantly, "Um… I heard him tell you to wait here tonight. Should we… wait?"
"My brother?"
Shinobu's expression darkened instantly.
"I don't have such a hateful brother!"
"But… didn't he call you 'sister'?"
Mitsuri looked completely lost.
"He has a mouth. I can't plug it for him!"
Shinobu quickened her pace as if physically distancing herself from Ryuya.
"Then… should we come back tonight?"
Shinobu originally had no intention of returning.
But why not?
Why should she just leave like this?
She finally encountered that bastard, got bullied by him, and then simply ran away?
No.
If she did that, he would definitely mock her.
She could already imagine his smug face.
"Oh, Sister Shinobu isn't so impressive after all. Doesn't even dare to show up. How timid."
Absolutely insufferable!
"I'll come. Of course I'll come. I must come!"
Shinobu declared stubbornly.
"O-Okay…"
Mitsuri smiled awkwardly, still unsure what exactly she was supporting.
Demon Slayer Corps Headquarters
Inside his chamber, Kagaya Ubuyashiki sat quietly.
The orange-red sunset filtered through the windows, casting a lonely glow upon him.
Dressed in white robes, he held a cup of hot tea in both hands.
He raised it slightly toward his lips, but paused.
His gaze fell upon the rippling surface of the tea as self-reproach filled his heart.
Because of his bold and rash decision, the Demon Slayer Corps had suffered devastating losses.
Sound Hashira Kuwajima Jigoro's injuries were worsening, making it nearly impossible for him to return to battle.
Tomioka Giyu was in deep despair.
During the retreat, an exhausted Giyu had stumbled on a steep slope. Sabito had accidentally rolled down separately, and by the time Uzui Tengen caught up, Giyu had already fainted.
Sabito's whereabouts remained unknown.
And then there was the death of Urokodaki Sakonji.
All of it weighed heavily on Giyu's heart, plunging him into overwhelming guilt.
Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku's death had struck the Demon Slayer Corps like a thunderbolt.
Kagaya blamed himself.
His decision had been too hasty.
Not only had they failed to rescue Shinazugawa Genya, but the Corps had also suffered catastrophic losses.
The only small consolation was that Stone Hashira Himejima Gyomei, Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa, and Water Hashira Tomioka Giyu had awakened their Demon Slayer Marks.
But compared to the devastation they had endured, it felt like a drop in the ocean.
The terror of the Upper Rank Demons had shaken even Kagaya's resolve.
As the current head of the Demon Slayer Corps, he found himself asking—
What could he possibly do now?
