Chapter 63 - Chapter 62: Doma… Are You Questioning Me?

The origins of the Eternal Paradise Cult were, in truth, rather absurd.

From birth, Doma had looked different from ordinary children. His unusual eyes and otherworldly presence convinced his superstitious parents that he was a "Child of God."

They built a cult around him.

They proclaimed he could hear the voice of heaven.

They gathered followers in droves.

In reality, Doma had never heard any divine voice.

As a child, he found it ridiculous.

But he pitied his parents.

So he played along.

Over time, the performance swallowed him. The lie became habit. The habit became identity. Somewhere along the way, he developed a warped detachment—half amusement, half delusion.

Perhaps he was a god.

Or perhaps everyone else was simply foolish.

Now—

For the first time, someone had bluntly torn away that illusion.

"Young Master Ryuya, what you said… is true. But it's rather hurtful. I'm a little sad."

Doma smiled, but there was a faint stiffness to it.

Ryuya didn't care.

Doma's pride meant nothing to him.

The so-called "voice of god" meant nothing either.

He only needed Doma's reputation—for his own plan.

"But it's still far-fetched," Doma continued lightly. "Even I don't believe it."

"If you don't believe it, I don't believe it either," Ryuya replied calmly. "As long as she believes it, why do you need to?"

Doma blinked.

…That was true.

He wasn't the one being fooled.

And if Ryuya asked him for something so small, why not comply?

With that thought, Doma turned back toward Mitsuri Kanroji.

"Young Miss Mitsuri, you asked about marriage, correct?"

"Mhm, mhm!"

Her eyes sparkled again.

"Your future husband will be a man with heterochromatic eyes… a scar across his face… and a fondness for snakes."

Doma felt absurd saying it.

This wasn't even his own invention—it was Ryuya's.

And it sounded utterly bizarre.

Mitsuri froze.

Heterochromatic eyes?

A scar?

Snakes???

Why does that sound so strange?!

Everyone always said she was strange…

Would her future husband also be strange?

Her heart twisted with complicated emotions.

After a moment, she asked hesitantly, "What kind of personality does he have? And… what does he think of me?"

Personality?

Opinion?

Doma nearly sighed.

How should I know what this imaginary snake enthusiast thinks?

He glanced sideways at Ryuya again.

Under Mitsuri's hopeful gaze, Doma whispered quietly.

She blinked in confusion.

Why are they whispering again?

Did I ask something too difficult?

Should I apologize?

After a brief exchange, Doma turned back.

"As for personality… perhaps not very approachable. A bit sharp-tongued. But gentle underneath. Something like that."

He spoke with decreasing confidence, but tried to maintain composure.

Sharp-tongued?

Mitsuri's heart skipped.

Not approachable was fine.

She could try harder.

But sharp-tongued…

Would he call her strange?

That was what she feared most.

Even if she knew she was a little unusual—

She didn't want to hear it.

"Are you satisfied?" Doma asked, oddly curious this time.

"Mhm…"

She nodded obediently.

It might not be perfect.

But it wasn't hopeless either.

And Shinobu was still waiting outside. She shouldn't take too long.

Satisfied?

Doma nearly lost his smile.

Ryuya, however, was pleased.

He hadn't expected such an unexpected gain from this visit.

Doma leaned slightly toward him.

"Young Master Ryuya… it's about time we eat her, isn't it?"

His tone was light, but his eyes flickered with desire.

Ryuya frowned.

"Eat her?"

"Young Master Ryuya, you don't actually believe she'll meet that snake-playing man, do you? Teasing her is enough. You're not serious… right?"

Doma still assumed this was a joke.

"Who knows," Ryuya replied calmly. "After all… I just heard the voice of god."

The irony was deliberate.

Doma let out two dry laughs.

"Young Master Ryuya, are you really going to abandon such delicious prey because of an absurd 'divine voice'?"

He was reluctant.

If not now, perhaps never.

Life was about seizing opportunity.

Ryuya's gaze sharpened slightly.

"What? You don't believe I can hear the voice of god? Doma… are you questioning me?"

For a split second—

Doma's smile nearly cracked.

…You just mocked me for believing in it.

And now you're saying you hear it?

But he swallowed the thought.

After all—

Even gods could lie.

And demons certainly could.
