Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Trash Belongs in the Trash Can

The second time she entered the CEO's office.

The place was huge and spacious. Besides a large desk, there was a set of sofas, and an area for drinking tea just beyond them.

"If you're tired, you can go sleep inside for a bit." He walked towards his desk and gestured with his chin.

Luo Shu followed his gaze and saw the small suite next to his desk. This place, at least, looked like a home, unlike the place from the other night.

Sigh… what am I thinking about now?

"I'm fine on the sofa out here," she said, taking a step back.

"Suit yourself." Yu Zhan walked back to his desk, sat down, and began to process his documents.

Luo Shu didn't go into the suite, choosing instead to wait on the sofa.

She didn't know how much time had passed, but Luo Shu, who hadn't slept well the previous night, eventually drifted off on the sofa.

At his desk, Yu Zhan continued to read documents and handle his affairs, seemingly powered by an endless supply of energy.

They had clearly both engaged in the same strenuous activity last night, and he had been the one doing most of the work, so how did he have so much energy?

When she woke up, it was already one in the morning.

Yu Zhan was standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, surveying the night view of the entire city.

It was easy to see that his body was well-trained, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. The prominent blue veins on his arms were faintly visible where his sleeves were casually rolled up.

She supported her stiff neck, letting out a soft whimper of pain. As she sat up, the black suit jacket that had been covering her slowly slid off.

"You're not sleeping?"

She had thought he would go to the room inside to sleep after he finished his work.

"The elevator is fixed."

"Oh."

"I'll take you," he said, slowly turning around.

"No need, I can just grab a taxi downstairs," Luo Shu said, picking up her bag.

Yu Zhan grabbed his jacket and followed closely behind her.

Luo Shu felt a bit uneasy. He was like a persistent stray dog that she just couldn't seem to shake off.

She walked outside. Before she had even left the parking garage, a horn blared from behind her. She moved to the side, but the black car kept honking.

She turned to look.

"Get in."

The man's voice was deep and magnetic. Beneath his rimless glasses, his dark eyes seemed chilling.

Luo Shu clutched her bag tightly. After a moment's hesitation, she got in the car.

Just then, a BMW with the license plate number 290 made a sharp turn and sped out of the underground garage.

"Screech—" The sound of tires skidding echoed through the garage.

The eyes of the two people in the car followed it until the car disappeared from view.

Coming back to her senses, Luo Shu hastily tugged at her skirt, which had ridden up as she sat down and was now nearing the top of her thighs.

She had no idea where he had bought this suit, but it was incredibly awkward to wear. Just as she was shifting slightly in her seat.

Pop—

A button on her chest popped off. A flash of white skin was revealed, exposing the mark he had left on her last night.

"..." Yu Zhan glanced over, then immediately averted his gaze, his Adam's apple bobbing unconsciously.

Luo Shu hurriedly covered her chest, her face redder than a persimmon.

She didn't dare to move. She couldn't fix the top, and she couldn't pull down the bottom…

If only she were just a couple of pounds lighter. Ever since she could remember, the mounds on her chest had been overly conspicuous, causing people to stare, which made her extremely uncomfortable.

She really wished she could just be average, even being flat-chested would be fine…

Yu Zhan tossed her the black suit jacket from the back seat.

Luo Shu understood and put the jacket on.

On the way, he stopped the car and went to a corner shop to buy a dessert soup.

The scent was faint, but she could recognize it, because it used to be her favorite.

She thought he was buying it for some woman at his home, but she was surprised when he handed it directly to her as she was getting out of the car.

"Take it," he said in a flat tone.

Luo Shu took it. "Thank you."

The dessert was made from lotus seeds, black rice, ejiao, and lily bulbs. She used to buy one every time she went shopping. This particular shop was so popular that people would queue for it even until three in the morning.

How did he know?

The apartment she rented was in "Plum Blossom Courtyard," not far from the company. By now, the night was quiet. Yu Zhan parked the car downstairs and watched her walk into the elevator.

He tilted his head up. In less than a minute, a light turned on on the 16th floor. Only then did he start the car and drive back to the company.

——

Stepping out of the elevator, Luo Shu saw a bouquet of yellow tulips and a cup of cold coffee on the floor.

The scene looked rather like someone had come to pay their last respects…

What bad luck!

She remembered a saying from Zhong Kui: "Trash belongs in the trash can!"

Her brows furrowed. She picked up the coffee and threw it into the nearby trash can.

She glanced back at the tulips, her hand tightening into a fist. She lifted her black high-heeled shoe and kicked the bouquet next to the trash can.

She unlocked the door with her fingerprint and walked into the small home she had missed so much.

She took off the ill-fitting jacket and slipped into her slippers before heading into the bathroom.

After a long time, she finally emerged.

So refreshing~

It was now two o'clock in the morning. She restarted her phone.

Thankfully, the phone was fine.

As soon as it turned on, a series of dings sounded as dozens of messages flooded in.

She didn't even look at them, marking them all as read without replying, but…

Qin Heng: [I called but you didn't answer, I messaged but you didn't reply. I was so worried about you. The flowers were freshly picked today. I hope you like them.]

After all their years together, he was still so romantic. But his romantic gestures were too indiscriminate, and all too easy to get lost in.

He was truly a master, providing his services to women for free.

Although Luo Shu came from a single-parent family, her mother was a woman of strong principles. Under her mother's influence, she had always been self-disciplined and proper. Even though she and Qin Heng had reached the point of discussing marriage, their physical relationship was still limited to simple hand-holding.

On the day of the National Day fashion show, as the venue was being cleared, she had spotted Qin Heng, who rarely went shopping.

Although she had long known about his secret relationship, seeing him with Liao Xian on the street with her own eyes—all touchy-feely and affectionate—still felt like swallowing a thousand needles.

And this exact scene happened to be witnessed by Yu Zhan and Shen Yan.

Her expression had been unusual, and it was then that Shen Yan had told Yu Zhan about the situation.

And that's what led to her drinking too much at the celebration party…

Thinking of this, she unconsciously opened Yu Zhan's WeChat profile.

Staring at his profile, she was lost in a daze for a long time. She looked at the suit jacket on the side, and the dessert soup next to it, and remembered the ridiculous thing he had said that day.

'Want to try being Mrs. Yu?'

She was lost in thought.

No matter how desperate she was for a man, she couldn't just find one like this!

He was a prestigious CEO, how could he fall for a lowly employee like her?

He wasn't running a charity, so how could he have pinpointed her so accurately? Was he blind?

She looked at her Moments and saw it had exploded. Everyone was commenting on how hardworking Luo Shu was, still working overtime at the company.

Just then, she saw a familiar profile picture.

Yu Zhan… had liked her post…

Could it be that he came downstairs to find her because he saw her Moments post?

No, no, that's absolutely impossible.

She quietly put her phone away, tossing it to the side, and began to open the dessert soup.

She took a small sip. So sweet!
