Roxy's head lolled back, sniffing into Zarek's masculine scent. "I can't... I'm tired..."
"You cannot stop," Zarek growled, leaning close to her face. "You have to hold on, Roxy. So I can take you home, our home!"
His intensity, his sheer arrogance, was strangely grounding. Roxy was itching to bite him, just the way she did before. That would be the only way to mirror this pain on him.
"I hate you," Roxy whispered to him.
"Good," Zarek replied. "Hate me. Use your hatred and push."
Roxy pushed. Not because she was trying to obey him, but because she needed to push, she wanted to get them all out of her body.
The second baby slid out easier than the first. A girl. She was darker, her fuzz black like Mara's fur.
"A daughter!" Mara cried, wiping the baby down.
Two down. One to go.
