Chapter 7 - Continuous level ups

Kaizen walked only a few seconds before spotting movement. This time, though, it was not a monster.

At least, it did not feel like one.

Monsters did not look humanoid, nor did they have rotting flesh hanging off their bodies, pus bubbling out of open pores, and putrid yellow hair clinging to their scalps.

A ghost? At least according to the information package, it should be one.

The information lockdown on this period was truly too severe in his past life, add to that his own neglect towards history, it was reasonable that he didn't even know what ghosts looked like.

However, courtesy of the Fourth Prince, he had some basic information on them now.

Similar to gods, ghosts didn't follow the power system of this world.

At least, they didn't follow the path of five domains.

Something which resembled them the most were perhaps those who awakened special abilities.

People with special abilities were few and far in between. There might not even be more than one or two on a planet.

Rarer still were those who survived long enough to grow powerful.

Kaizen gripped his sword tightly, while patting the pocket containing healing pills with his other hand.

Ghosts have weird special abilities, I'll have to first check what it is.

The most infamous ghost on the planet, the Tolko ghost, had a special ability of stealing lifespan.

It would truly be devastating if the ghost in front of him had some similarly bizarre special ability.

Fortunately, Kaizen didn't have to wait for long.

The very next second, the ghost in front of him melted into liquid, while a fetid slimy substance appeared near his leg.

He leapt back, adopting a defensive stance as he witnessed the same ghost reform two seconds later where he previously stood.

Its special ability is teleporting?

It's rather lame though. I have all the time in the world to react to it. It's too slow.

What followed was rather peculiar as Kaizen's brain spasmed, his thoughts derailing.

Each time the ghost melted, the mighty Fifth Prince of the Aeonhart Empire would clench his fists, rub them under his eyes like a child pretending to cry, making droopy faces to mock it.

That wasn't the end.

He pantomimed sleeping, as if suggesting he had time for a nap before reacting to the ghost.

"Blerghhhhh."

Kaizen taunted, mocking the ghost for its unhygienic and homeless appearance.

"I have a house, do you?

"I have a brother, do you?

"I have a mother, do you?

"I have money, do you?

"Hah, poor bastard."

Not even a moment had passed that Kaizen suddenly stabbed straight, utilising Supreme level mastery of Myriad Form Swift Wind to give the ghost an immediate death.

[Killed an unnamed rank one ghost.]

[Experience gained 20000.]

[Artifact Refiner class upgraded to level 2.]

[10 attribute points gained.]

With his senses, Kaizen was able to feel the progress he had made in the two domains.

Might as well allocate the attribute points right now.

Of the 30, Kaizen placed 10 in Strength and Intelligence each, then distributed the remaining 10 among Dexterity and Constitution, giving 5 each.

His muscles tightened, and his mind felt clearer than before. He could feel the range of his muscles improve, and the stamina he had spent fighting the monkey and the ghost recover somewhat.

This is truly addicting.

He had to admit, it was a lot better than meditating in one place or scouring the world for treasures to grow stronger.

Kaizen glanced at his movement skill's experience bar, and noticed that the numbers seemed to have gone up.

Hmm, using the skill improves one's mastery of it, not surprising.

Cultivation skills were divided in three types - Human, Earth, and Heaven.

However, they often weren't limited to a certain rank of cultivation.

A human type cultivation skill which could be learned by a rank one, could also be utilized by a rank seven person.

However, it needed to be useful to rank seven in the first place.

Human type cultivation skills used by lower ranks were often too simplistic because their control of Qi wasn't so efficient.

Naturally, cultivation skills which required higher control of Qi, like Earth and Heaven type, were oftentimes better than those which required simplistic usage of Qi.

So even if one had a greater mastery of a Human type cultivation skill, they discarded it at higher ranks because it simply wouldn't be that effective in fights.

Geniuses who were able to control Qi proficiently from the lower ranks and had strong backings would often receive Earth type cultivation skills so that their time spent in increasing their mastery wouldn't be wasted.

However, that wasn't of any concern to Kaizen.

All three of his skills were already of Heaven type, he wouldn't need to discard them even after climbing ranks.

The degree of control needed to use Heaven type skills was the same as Earth type. However, whereas Earth type were race exclusive, Heaven type skills could be used by any race.

He only had three Heaven type skills.

As to why his three highest mastery skills just so happened to be Heaven type? It wasn't luck, it was because they were the only inclusive ones, applicable to any race.

Therefore they were more widespread than the Earth types. For someone who had no backing in his past life, they were more easily obtained.

Kaizen had already tried using the rest of his skills but couldn't control them at all.

Well, it seems I am really a dragon in essence if I can't use the human race's Earth type cultivation skills.

Due to his supreme level mastery of sword cultivation skill and concealment cultivation skill, majority of his later battles ended before the entity even realised what took place.

[Killed a rank one green scaled anaconda.]

[Experience gained 18000.]

[Artifact Refiner class upgraded to level 3.]

[10 attribute points gained.]

Kaizen noticed that every successive level required 50% more experience.

It was 10000 at level 1, 15000 at level 2, 22500 at level 3 and so on.

[Killed a rank one green scaled anaconda.]

[Experience gained 21000.]

[Artifact Refiner class upgraded to level 4.]

[10 attribute points gained.]

[Cultivator class upgraded to level 2.]

[10 attribute points gained.]

[Artifact Refiner - Tier 1 - Rank 1 - Level 4 - 4500/33750]

[Cultivator - Tier 1 - Rank 1 - Level 2 - 3000/15000]

Remove the Tier 1 and Rank 1. No use constantly seeing it when it wouldn't change anytime soon.

[Acknowledged. The next time the host wishes to check his progress, both of those parameters wouldn't be displayed unless requested.]

With that settled, Kaizen hunted one more ghost before beginning his return journey to meet his mother.

[Killed an unnamed unranked ghost.]

[Experience gained 5000.]

When he returned, his guard notified that his mother was already in the city.

She wished to meet and have lunch with him in a restaurant, not in this house, which held him in coma for so many years.
