ELENA'S POINT OF VIEW
The hand on my arm was firm but not rough. A voice whispered close to my ear, low and urgent.
"Mrs. Reyes, don't panic. It's Drake from security. I'm going to get you out of here."
Relief hit me so hard my knees almost gave out. Drake. Security. I was safe. Everything was going to be okay.
"Stay close to me," he whispered. "Don't make any noise."
I nodded, even though he probably couldn't see me in the darkness. His hand guided me, turning me back toward the living room. Back toward the voices. Back toward Alex, who was still calling my name with increasing desperation.
"What's happening?" I whispered. "Who cut the power?"
"We're not sure yet, but we're getting you to safety first."
We moved slowly through the darkness. I could hear my family in the distance. Victoria's voice was trying to calm everyone. Richard is asking about the breaker box. Nathan was saying something I couldn't quite make out.
And Alex.
