Chapter 218 - Chapter 217 The Brotherhood Between Two "Lost" Men

First, a clarification of the timeline before 30K, as the official Primarch return timeline has some issues. The official timeline states that Corax returned before The Eleventh Brother, but when Corax returned, two Legions and their Primarchs had already disappeared. Below is the official timeline and the author's own modifications:

At the same time, between the first Warmaster, Olpetson, and Horus's anointment as Warmaster on Ullanor, there was another Warmaster. The official 'Xenos Race Campaign Manual' clearly states 'For the Warmaster,' indicating that there was a Warmaster before Horus. Therefore, I have assigned the Warmaster title to The Second Son here.

29798: The Great Crusade begins.

29799: (Alpha returns, but this is a secret.)

2 Lorgar

2 Russ

2 Sarradin (Officially stated to be The Second Son, so I've placed The Second Son here too.)

2 Ferrus

29830: Fulgrim

29832: Vulkan

2 Dorn

2 Guilliman

29839: Gaius (I've placed The Eleventh Brother after Guilliman.)

29839: In the same year, the First Xenos Race Campaign erupted. The First Legion, the Dark Angels, despite achieving ultimate victory, paid an extremely heavy price, as its Primarch had not yet returned.

29840: Magnus

29843: Sanguinius

2 Lion El'Jonson

29849: Perturabo

29854: Mortarion

29857: Lorgar

29862: The Second Xenos Race Campaign erupted. The Xenos Race army invaded the Imperium along the northern and eastern parts of the The Galaxy / Milky Way. Its scale was second only to the later Horus Heresy.

With the efforts of the Second Legion, the Fifth Legion, and the Nineteenth Legion, this alien tide was barely contained, allowing the Imperial Army to establish a foothold on the forge world of Xana.

The Second Legion, the Fifth Legion, and the Nineteenth Legion fought for 8 months, at the cost of 3,000 Space Marine, hundreds of thousands of Adeptus Mechanicus forces, and countless mortal troops, finally awaiting the reinforcements of the Dark Angels and the Death Guard.

Over the next 20 years, the war continued, millions of lives were lost, 19 star systems were abandoned, and task forces from 9 other Legions also joined the war.

In the climactic battle that erupted on Lax, as many as 300,000-500,000 Legionnaires and five Primarchs resisted the alien invasion. The outcome of the battle is unknown, but it is known that the situation was not optimistic, even extremely bad, forcing the Emperor to destroy the Labyrinth of Perpetual Night to contain this major threat.

If the Labyrinth of Perpetual Night wasn't holding anything else, it could be assumed that the Emperor released the Void Dragon to deal with the Xenos Race that even the Space Marine couldn't handle.

(Modification: The Second Son, Sarradin, was urgently appointed Warmaster by the Emperor during this battle, overseeing all internal and external military affairs.)

2 Khan

29890: The Third Xenos Race Campaign erupted, and the Second Legion and the Eleventh Legion disappeared. (The First Legion Dark Angels, the Second Legion Janissaries, the Sixth Legion Space Wolves, and the Eleventh Legion Dragon Guard participated in this campaign. In the end, the First Legion and the Sixth Legion were severely weakened, two Legions and their Primarchs died, and Russ personally executed The Eleventh Brother.)

2 Konrad Curze

29899: Angron

2 Corax

29927: [DATA EXPUNGED] (This is the official return time for The Eleventh Brother, but when Corax returned, two Legions had already disappeared. So this is voided.)

29981: Omega, Alpha's twin brother, returns.

30000: Ullanor Triumph, the Emperor anoints Horus as Warmaster.

30001: Council of Nikaea, the Emperor forbids the use of psychic powers in the Imperium. Magnus is unhappy... --- Let us continue... ---

Sarradin, a Primarch who possessed both benevolence and aloofness, was a highly controversial figure among his brothers. His steady character and powerful military talent made him a pillar of the Imperial expeditions, but his benevolence and sense of justice also led some brothers to develop complex feelings towards him.

The rift between Sarradin and Horus originated from the early 'Magana Orbital Bombardment.' Although Sarradin did not show obvious hostility towards Horus, he always harbored dissatisfaction with Horus's strategies and moral principles.

Horus tried several times to reach out to Sarradin to mend their relationship, but Sarradin was always busy campaigning abroad.

Thus, Horus, who was showing early signs of senility and a 'preference for sons,' began to write letters to Sarradin. Sarradin politely replied, but the content of his letters was merely a mundane recounting of events.

Fulgrim's arrogance and obsession with luxury, as well as some 'gay, gay' behaviors, greatly displeased Sarradin.

Sarradin believed that Fulgrim excessively pursued perfection and outward splendor, neglecting the humility and sense of responsibility a Primarch should possess.

In Fulgrim's eyes, Sarradin's seemingly noble benevolence was merely a pretense, or even a subtle criticism of his other brothers.

During their first meeting, Fulgrim had a very good impression of this Handsome Old Man who looked 'over sixty,' and Sarradin also had a good first impression of this very beautiful (note the word choice, beautiful) brother.

However... during one instance of cooperation between their two Legions, they jointly conquered a human faction that refused to submit. After the war, The Third Son discovered that The Second Son's troops were rescuing enemy civilians and wounded, and even providing alien spacecraft to those who had sworn to fight to the death, allowing them to leave the The Galaxy / Milky Way.

This immediately annoyed The Third Son, as his Legion was still admiring and collecting artworks, while The Second Son had already begun cleanup work. This made the perfection-seeking Third Son a little jealous, so The Third Son found Sarradin and asked:

"Don't you think that after we've killed so many of them, now to show kindness... is very hypocritical?"

Sarradin ignored him because he didn't want to answer the question. Seeing that The Second Son didn't answer, The Third Son then embraced the Handsome Old Man in front of him in a very intimate, even more than brotherly, hug.

This action immediately stunned Sarradin, and he instantly became homophobic... Moreover, because of such close proximity, Sarradin realized that Fulgrim had worn makeup to the battlefield.

So, Sarradin immediately retaliated against this action... and then the two began to argue... mainly The Third Son was incessantly chattering and ranting, while Sarradin didn't reply, just turned and walked away.

This behavior completely exasperated The Third Son, who made a mental note against his Second Brother, Sarradin.

Magnus and Sarradin found common ground in philosophy and psychic research, while Guilliman held Sarradin's governing talent in extremely high regard. Sarradin often discussed ideas about order and the future of humanity with them under the Emperor's grand plan.

The Great Angel Sanguinius also agreed with The Second Son Sarradin's benevolence and protection of the innocent. Their friendship was deep, and they had fought side-by-side many times during the Great Crusade.

Gaius was a Primarch full of wisdom and humor; his scientific achievements and philosophical insights made him a widely popular member among his brothers.

He was skilled at mediating conflicts between brothers and defusing complex situations with a lighthearted humor. Basically, all the brothers had an excellent relationship with Gaius.

Gaius and Horus had a close relationship, often engaging in deep discussions on military strategy and thoughts about the future. Horus admired Gaius's wisdom and creativity, while Gaius held Horus's leadership talent in extremely high esteem.

Fulgrim, in turn, respected Gaius's technical prowess, and they also got along very well in terms of artistic style... They even used to play musical instruments together, and would sleep in the same bed late into the night.

Gaius once said, "I really like the fragrance that always emanates from The Third Son."

Fulgrim also said, "Don't you think... The Eleventh Brother's hands are very beautiful?"

Gaius and Guilliman complemented each other in administration. Guilliman was good at formulating macro policies, while Gaius supported him through technological innovation. This cooperation forged a deep friendship between them during the Great Crusade.

Gaius's "Mechanized Warriors" formed a sharp contrast with Perturabo's "Iron Warriors." Perturabo was jealous of Gaius's technical achievements, but he had to admit that Gaius's innovations provided immense support for the Imperium's tactical revolution.

However, later, Gaius discovered that his Fourth Brother Perturabo was actually a bit twisted and tsundere, so he proactively offered help to Perturabo.

Their relationship also grew better and better. Perturabo even treated The Eleventh Brother as a "listening ear," often confiding his worries and complaining about Dorn and their father to Gaius.
