In the far East of Earthbread… Lies a temple in the vast and scorching cheddar cheese sands. And yet… beneath that sacred temple of the great ever-gleaming goddess of Gold, there were a flock of cheese birds and a large mineshaft.
A few and other cheese birds were mining away, ensuring the cheddar ores will be safely mined out. Deeper in the mines, lies a laboratorium where most of the expert cheese birds calculate and ensure those cheeses within their machines are functioning in top condition.
But… it would seem that there's a bigger issue within the place, an error keeps on popping out left and right. It wasn't really the beetles that are causing them such errors though… It was something… More…

Golden Cheese Cookie: "Ha ha ha! The monster games are about to begin! Oh I can't wait to see who's going to win."

The crowd within the arena spectator seats were loud, screaming at the top of their lungs like wildfire when the first match of the games were announced by the announcer. Soon, a hoard of monsters soon came out of the tunnels of the arena and thus… a massive brawl began to heat up the arena. However… among those monsters, there were a few who looked awfully distinctive from the rest.
Eyes were glowing bright red, like the color of blood and their bodies were nothing but darkness as they walked on 4 legs and at the end of their backs, smoke — or rather fire — was emanating from it and a tail that felt both real and ghost-like.
Golden Cheese Cookie: "Hmm… Something's not right."
Smoked Cheese Cookie: "I agree. Those monsters in the games.."
By the end of the last few monsters, recognized by the citizens of the Golden City, the unknown creatures soon charged in and attacked the rest of them and even devoured them mercilessly and brutally in front of the people.
Biting off the parts of the monster's legs, head and even the insides of its body… Guts and intestines were being pulled out and a lot of the cheese denizens were horrified by it.
Cheese denizen 1: "KYAAAAAAAAAA!!!!"
Cheese denizen 2: "Wh-What… WHAT ARE THOSE THINGS???!!!"
After witnessing a horrible event today, the citizens of the Golden City soon went out of their way to exit the arena but they underestimated the horrifying creatures… They are faster, smarter and even more devilish than they could ever imagine.
Before one of them could even devour one of the cheese denizens, Golden Cheese Cookie threw her mighty spear in its direction and drew its attention to her.
Golden Cheese Cookie: "HEY YOU!! LEAVE MY PRECIOUS TREASURES ALONE, YOU… YOU BEAST!!"

Surrounding the queen with nowhere else to go, the monstrous creatures only growled beneath their hungry breaths as they circled her around and closed in further.
Golden Cheese Cookie looked all around herself, gripping her spear tightly while her breaths were uneasy and shaky. Why is she feeling this way? She wondered, she shouldn't feel this way at all and yet… The monsters she is facing right now, at this very moment, are more horrifying than the fight against Dark Enchantress Cookie from the great Dark Flour War.
Her heart was pounding fast, sweats running down her dough and her uneasiness made her vulnerable. As the monstrous creatures leaped in to attack her, an error portal appeared, between her virtual world and reality, she quickly made use of it and ran outside of her illusion, thus the rest of the monsters followed her outside.

In the heat of a fierce battle between her radiance and the monstrous creatures… A voice was soon heard from above and an error portal appeared right above the center of the Arena and above Golden Cheese Cookie herself.
With no time to think, Golden Cheese Cookie quickly made haste and dodged from the sudden blow of what was falling above her just now.
The smoke surrounding them was thick yet it gave off a horrible smell. The smoke soon lifted and what Golden Cheese Cookie saw were 2 female cookies, one of them floated down gracefully while the other had slain the same horrific beast that was in her arena…
???: "Tch… typical… There's more of you fuckers, EHH?!"

???: "Bwaaaa… we have been walking for HOURS now, Celestine! Just where the hell are these nightmariums anyway?! I am ITCHING to blast the hell out of them right now."
Celestine: "I know that you're getting a little impatient to incinerate them, but we were tasked to locate the ongoing portals that they have caused them too, remember? Try and bear with it, Mariya."
Mariya: "Fine~... As long as we get this over with in a jiffy. Would be hilarious if we end up in a world where humans are cookies, heh.."
Celestine: "Don't jinx it."
Mariya: "Who knows… Might be too late for me to take back my word for it."
Celestine: "… Hide."
As they both hid behind bushes and trees, they took a peak. Right in front of them, they saw the monster, a nightmarium if you will. Its body was dark, as its back was on fire, black smoke yet its appearance was different from ordinary. Its face fractured, its right eye was formed like a star yet there were cracks flowing around its smoky dark body, as there's a hint of starry blood within itself.
Mariya: Is that the nightmarium that they told us about?
Celestine: Seems so. Judging from its figure… It is definitely a different looking breed than the rest.
Mariya: Is it me, or do I feel a sense of deja vu?
Celestine: ...…
As Mariya can only reply with a quiet chuckle at Celestine, the nightmarium soon sensed their presence and was about to flee from the vicinity. Just as Mariya jumped out from hiding with the makeshift hammer from her weapon, hyperion, she then struck a blow at the monster but it dodged it. Right as it dodge, Celestine then proceeded to blast it with her power from behind and it was sent flying at Mariya's direction, but she dodged it just in time.
Mariya: "WERE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME OR SOMETHING, CELESTINE??!?!?"
Celestine: "S-Sorry."
Mariya: "Tsk. Apology accepted. Let's get this over with…"
In the midst of fleeing away from them, a portal was then opened when that nightmarium tore the air down. However… A laser rope was tied around its neck, straggling in the process of it not escaping from them that easily. Mariya was struggling to hold on, Celestine took the opportunity to close both the portal and take the final blow at it, but it soon grabbed the laser rope, pulling Mariya towards it and it was now a chase.
Through the portal they went, they were now falling or at least flying across the tunnels of distortion. At least that's what they think. Out of the tunnel, they were falling to their demise and yet… Mariya still happened to hold onto the laser rope, which she quickly made due to what she was capable of.
Quickly tugging the rope, she changed the direction to where the beast was heading, before the beast could even chase down at the nearby village below, Celestine was quick to cast a portal below and they went through but to who knows where to now.
Portals after portals, places after places, they were all over the place. They were still fighting, defending, even trying to catch up with the beast's obscured abilities and agility. Right after they entered another portal, Mariya quickly wielded her weapon, transforming it into a sword and quickly pierced the beast's chest until finally… they landed within the temple of the Golden Cheese Kingdom.

Golden Cheese Cookie: "Th-Thanks for the save!" (Though… She's nearing her limit. If I could just…)
Mariya: "HEY DUMBASSES!! — EYES ON ME, FUCKERS!!!"

Mariya quickly disposed of the nightmariums in one go, giving Celestine a break from casting a barrier around her and Golden Cheese Cookie. Celestine collapsed, exhausted from using up her magic, she was breathing heavily but quickly recovered as she got up on her feet.
Celestine: "... Are you hurt anywhere?"
Golden Cheese Cookie: "I'm fine. Thank you again though."
Celestine: "Your arm!"
Golden Cheese Cookie: "Hmm? — O-Oh! I must've scrapped myself while I was—H-HEY!!"
Celestine: "Please hold still."

Celestine: "... Were you fighting off a hoard of them?"
Golden Cheese Cookie: "You mean those monsters from earlier? Yes, I have."

???: "Fufufu~... It would appear you followed us here in this world, your holiness."
A mysterious figure was above them, within the spectator seats of the arena. From there, a distorted voice can be heard as they speak, they were wearing medieval thievery clothing yet their own aura emanating from them is enough for Mariya and Celestine to be on high alert.
Celestine: "....."
Mariya: "Tch… No wonder I sensed something distinctful."
???: "Hmm… Indeed. Though… I do believe that you weren't part of the plan."
Mariya: (Are they talking about me? What do they mean by plan anyway? Was their plan to lure Celestine into the fray?)
Celestine: "Who are you…?"
???: "HEHEHEHEHE~ I am but a lowly servant, for we… shall follow in their footsteps until the end of our days and nights."
Golden Cheese Cookie: "Were you the one who sent those… Beasts into my world?!"
???: "Hehehe~ your world is no less different from her holiness's greatest creation! Though, I must admit… Your world is rather disappointing. It's despicable."
Golden Cheese Cookie: "You take those foul words BACK!"
???: "Hehehe~ What simpletons. Our Lord will be most pleased… Once we engulf this world into nothing but despair and destruction… and devour everything once more."
Celestine: "Why? Why go through all of this?!"
???: "Hehehehe~ such mere questions will be a waste to answer~ 'Tis best you to see it for yourself. But I do have a question in mind."
Celestine: "... Speak."
???: "Why hunt our kin? Why not join us and work with us as we change this pitiful world anew!"
Mariya: "Quite simple, really; YOU IDIOTS ARE LITERAL DEMONS!! DEVILISHLY EVIL WITH ONE GOAL… IS TO BRING EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU STRAIGHT… TO… HEEEEELLLLL!!!"
Mariya quickly charged right at them as her greatsword transformed into a makeshift katana right at them, however… With a sudden blow, they blocked her attack with a monstrous arm enveloped in black flames. They responded with laughter, laughing for how weak Mariya became after fighting off a hoard of their kin.
Grabbing her with great force, they threw her to the opposing side of the ring, crashing the other side of the spectator seats of the empty arena within the golden temple.
Celestine: "Mari!"
???: "HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE~!!! You're much weaker than I thought… However… You on the other hand…"
Golden Cheese Cookie: ".....!!!!!"
Appearing from the shadows within the empty arena of the golden temple, eyes gleamed with crimson red and distorted low growls can be heard all around them. Nearly a hundred of nightmariums surrounded the entire arena and surrounding both Celestine and Golden Cheese Cookie with no room to breath nor escape.
???: "Our Lord will be pleased when we… Get to devour her holiness whole."
Golden Cheese Cookie: "...." (Not good! I'm already exhausted from my fight against a few of those monsters… Fighting any more of them will—)
Celestine: *sigh*... "I seriously didn't want to resort to this…"
Gripping her wooden staff as she breathed in, she was preparing to unleash a powerful spell all around her. Golden Cheese Cookie can feel her magic growing as Celestine concentrated everything into one single attack, but… Before Celestine was able to cast that spell, a spear quickly woosh past her and pierced at the mysterious cloaked entity, but it misses, inches away from their face.
???: ".....!!!!!"
Mariya: "Heh…"
Celestine: "....."
Golden Cheese Cookie: (Didn't she — wouldn't she be crumbled by that crash earlier?! Then… H-How?!)
Mariya: "Why the surprised look on your faces? Never seen someone back from hell?!"
Celestine: "... Don't push yourself too hard, Mari."
Mariya: "Yeah, yeah… I have 5 minutes before I go insane…"

Mariya and the mysterious cloaked entity soon battled it off, the intensity of that battle shook the arena—no—the whole temple. However… Most of the nightmariums soon attacked Celestine and Golden Cheese Cookie all at once, but reluctantly… Celestine was able to recover most of her magic, so did Golden Cheese Cookie as well.
Golden Cheese Cookie: "Here I thought—HRRRRRNNN—fighting a few of them is tiring… ENOUGH!! — Don't you agree, uh.. miss?"
Celestine: "Mm.."
Golden Cheese Cookie: "Not much of a talker, aye?"
Celestine: "... Focus on the fight… To your left."
Golden Cheese Cookie: "R-Right…!!"
Battle kept on going. Celestine was running out of mana, dodging attacks gracefully like a ballerina dancing in the battlefield and even having to slain dozens of them like a grim reaper. For Golden Cheese Cookie however, her attacks still had no effect on them, her own powers are far more useless and yet she's angry to herself that she cannot aid Celestine in this fight.
Golden Cheese Cookie: "Ugh! Dammit all!!"
Celestine: "... Aid thy thee."
Golden Cheese Cookie: "Ehh?"
Celestine gave small amounts of her magic at Golden Cheese Cookie's spear. Confused by what that was, Golden Cheese didn't bother asking, instead… she used this new found power at the nightmariums and some of them slowly disappeared into dust.
Golden Cheese Cookie: "H-Hah.. Haha!! I don't know what you did to my spear but it would seem that they are no longer a match for me!!"
Celestine: "...."
Golden Cheese Cookie: "Oh uh.. AHEM! I thank you for the support."
Celestine: "... You're most welcome."

Celestine: "...." (You're almost at your limit, Mari. I don't think you'll be able to hold out for much longer.)

The mysterious figure soon looked up above them and Celestine was in the air with Golden Cheese Cookie. They soon chanted together, a spell that could defeat their foe once and for all. As they chanted away, they raised their arms, like preparing to fire an arrow from their bow to their target.
Moments earlier though, when Mariya was still fighting the mysterious figure. Celestine and Golden Cheese Cookie quickly dispose of the nightmariums in hopes they could help Mariya in their battle, but…

Golden Cheese Cookie: "Right. There's still that mysterious cookie."

As Celestine reached out her hand to Golden Cheese Cookie, the both of them soon flew off to where Mariya and the mysterious figure were battling to their deaths. Exiting the empty arena, they spotted them at the nearby open plaza at the center of the temple.
Mariya was already nearing her limit, almost losing control of her powers. But Celestine and Golden Cheese Cookie flew up in the sky, right above them. As the mysterious figure strangled Mariya tightly on her neck, suffocating her slowly…
Celestine: "Golden Cheese Cookie."
Golden Cheese Cookie: "Yes?"
Celestine: "Chant these words with me, and follow my lead. Mariya will be saved if we do this together."

At the present time, they soon chanted together, a spell that could defeat their foe once and for all. As they chanted away, they raised their arms, like preparing to fire an arrow from their bow to their target.
As the mysterious figure looked up, fear soon ran through their veins. The fear of being obliterated by the light, being slain by their enemy. They couldn't let that happen, as their pride only got the best of them.
They let go of Mariya, throwing her to the side as she crashed down at the nearby pond of the plaza. As the mysterious figure grew a pair of wings, flying up to the sky before Celestine and Golden Cheese Cookie could launch their attack at it.. Mariya grabbed hold of them, pulling them down with laser-like ropes, preventing them from coming near them any closer.
Mariya: "Heehee… I still have some strength left!! — NOW CELESTINE!!"
Celestine & Golden Cheese Cookie: "... May you see the setting sun, may you see the stars once more…"

The world faded in white, as the scream faded into nothing. The vast whiteness soon faded back into reality and the mysterious figure was no more… However… Something wasn't right.
As both Golden Cheese Cookie and Celestine flew down in front of Mariya, Mariya soon sensed something, there was another one… another mysterious figure nearby.
Spotted like it was caught, Mariya still had strength left and threw her makeshift spear at it as they ran away. Unfortunately for them, the spear soon pierced through their body and they were pinned down, yet still alive… For now.
Mariya collapsed on her knees, screaming internally in pain, her time was up. She quickly reached out her hand at Celestine and she gave Mariya a syringe. Leaving Mariya behind, she quickly went after another mysterious figure on her own, but..
Golden Cheese Cookie: "H-Hey! We can't just—and she's gone…"
Mariya: "Just… Just go already, bird brain! Haa… I'll.. be fine! I just… need to catch my breath…"
Golden Cheese Cookie: "... Rest up till then."

Leaving Mariya behind for her to rest up from that intense battle, Golden Cheese Cookie flew where Celestine went and what she saw was rather devastating. It surprises her a lot, yet she stays firm, showing no fear.
Celestine: "... I'll ask again. Who are you and to what purpose do you lots have with this world?"
???: "Heehee~.. We have no name, for we only exist to serve under our Lord's rule… For us followers… we are expendable. As for our purposes… we are merely following… Our Lord's decree…"

Moments later… Golden Cheese Cookie took us in, gave us a place to stay in her kingdom while Mariya was still recovering from her recent battle with the nightmariums and the "followers of the night".
Many of the denizens of this kingdom weren't hurt nor badly injured, but they were severely traumatized and frightened from recent events back at the arena.

Silence rolled in, and I was looking down from the balcony of our room where me and Mariya were staying. I felt depressed, couldn't do much… I felt uneasy, restless… Not knowing what to do next.
Even after we know that their Lord had already made plans in expanding their calamity in this world, there's not much time until—

Mariya came out of the room, feeling as if she didn't move at all — or rather — was sleeping like a vampire in their coffin. While having to stretch her arms and some such, she was looking at Smoked Cheese Cookie with a dumbfounded look on her face.
Mariya: "Aaand… Who are you?"
Smoked Cheese Cookie: "My name is Smoked Cheese Cookie. I heard all about you from her majesty, uh.. Mariya Cookie, was it?"
Mariya: "Cookie? PFFFT… Your name is literally a consumable substance?! Ahaha… Hilarious!!"

Celestine: "Taken in by their Queen's generosity. We're staying in this hotel room for the time being, as a token of thanks from her."
Mariya: "So we're rich now?! HELL YEAH!!"
Celestine: "Not quite."
Mariya: "What do you mean?"
Smoked Cheese Cookie: "Almost forgot. If you two could follow me. There's something that Mozzarella Cookie wants from you both."
Celestine and Mariya looked at each other, confused about what Smoked Cheese Cookie meant. But nevertheless, they both went and followed him to the control room where Mozzarella Cookie often works and observe the data that's stored within the Golden City.
Upon arrival, Mariya was shocked to see that her weapon, Hyperion, was with Mozzarella Cookie, examining the weapon at the time.
Mozzarella Cookie: "How fascinating… It would seem that this kind of technology is much more advanced than ours!"
Mariya: "H-Hey! Quit that!! One wrong switch, and you'll blast your head off!!"
Mozzarella Cookie: "A-Apologies, Mariya Cookie. Here."
Mariya: "Bwaah! Cookie this, cookie that… Can't you say my name normally like a normal human being, huh?"
Mozzarella Cookie: "Human…"
Smoked Cheese Cookie: "Being…?"
Mariya: "Don't tell me you idiots don't know what a human is."
Celestine: "They don't…"
Mariya: "... Okay so… can you both give me and Celestine some privacy? Thanks!"
When Mariya dragged Celestine away, the 2 being left behind the control room; Smoked Cheese Cookie and Mozzarella Cookie only looked at each other… both dumbfounded and confused as to why the both of them need to talk privately just now.
Mariya: "Okay… Okay! Celestine… Since you're the only one who's awake while I was ASLEEP at the time… JUST WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!?!!???"
Celestine: "Mari…"
Mariya: "No.. NO! Man… what the hell!! Don't tell me we're in a world filled with sweets, happiness and rainbows… and most importantly… Where most humans are COOKIES?????"
Celestine: "... Yes."
Mariya: "OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE!! JUST FUCKING GREAAATTT!!! I JINXED THE BOTH OF US IN THIS STUPID FUCKING MESS!!!"
Celestine: "Please calm down, Mari."
Mariya: "I am calm…"
Celestine: "You don't seem like you are."
Mariya being utterly defeated, she was now sulking. Sulking to herself that she jinxed themselves in this mess. She sighed under her breath while giving Celestine a stern look.
Mariya: "You and I are gonna have a talk later once this is over."
Celestine: *sigh*...

Mariya: "Sorry for that."
Smoked Cheese Cookie: "It's fine. So Mariya Cookie, about earlier—"
Mariya: "Imma stop you right there, pal. What I said about before… about the whole 'human being' thing… Please just forget about it, 'kay?"
Smoked Cheese Cookie: "Uhhh… Okaaaay?"
Mariya: "Good, good! So uh… You said that you need the both of us here. So… what is it?"
Mozzarella Cookie: "It's about the monsters from earlier. The both of you seem to know more about it when our majesty fought alongside you. Could you perhaps tell us?"
Celestine: "... To what purpose if we were to tell you about them?"
Mozzarella Cookie: "We'll have it stored in our system, and be highly alert about it, in case there will be a similar incident like this one from recently."
Mariya: "Hrmm… I dunno, miss. Do you reeeaaalllyy wanna learn about them?"
Mozzarella Cookie: "Not necessarily. But it's better to be safe than sorry."
Celestine: "If you sa—"
Mariya: "I'm sorry. We'll have to decline."
Smoked Cheese Cookie: "..."
Mozzarella: "I-I see…"
Celestine: "Mari—"
Mariya: "Hey now! I know what you're going to say, but best we talk about it later, huh?"
Celestine: "... Very well then."
Smoked Cheese Cookie: (We haven't known them for long and yet… They are definitely hiding something from us. I'll keep a sharp eye on them, just in case.)
Mariya: "....." (Is this dude being for real right now? If anything… He'll learn the truth about us one way or another, best be cautious around him.)
After having to talk to both Mozzarella Cookie and Smoked Cheese Cookie in the control room, they went back to their hotel room to think, but it would seem that Mariya had other plans in mind. Checking every nook and cranny of the hotel room to see if there are any security cameras in the place, Celestine however was sitting on the sofa made out of soft mozzarella cheese.
Celestine: "Must you be this untrustworthy around everyone?"
Mariya: "Why wouldn't I? We don't know them and they don't know us. Just becaaauussee we helped them, doesn't mean we are fully allies."
Celestine: "But wouldn't it be better if we tell th—"
Mariya: "Tell them what?! That a bunch of monsters from earlier are a completely dangerous species and we… just tell them nonchalantly about it?! NO!"
Celestine: "But still—"
Mariya: "Still what?!"
Closing everything in the room, the blinds, the doors, everything until Mariya soon threw her weapon, Hyperion, on the coffee table and transformed itself into a box. A holographic screen soon appeared from it and it shows all the data about the nightmariums.
Countless data about various nightmariums, from simple looking to horrific, each one of them are a massive threat to them. None should underestimate them or at least know their origins, if they do… Things will get out of hand, very badly.
Mariya: "... Look. I-I just… I just don't trust them fully just yet. This… Isn't their war, Celestine. It's ours."
Celestine: "I know… But they'll find out soon enough though…"
