Chapter 1 - Prologue

It was a pretty common dream of mine, to wake up one day in a new world of excitement and adventure.

So many shows tried to depict what a great life you could have if you just woke up in a new world. Manga, novels, and anime showed big boobs and fun adventures.

Even with the hardships the hero always made it work in the end. I envy those stories...This is no tale of glamor or happy endings, just a strained recollection of the events that changed mine and my late companions' lives forever.

The good, the bad, and the ugly; this is my personal recollection, and those of my lost comrades.

My name is Yuki Benemaru and over a thousand years ago I was a junior at one of the private learning institutions in my hometown of Tokyo.

Damn… looking back on it I was 17 years old when it all started.

During that time, I trained and competed in Tae Kwon Do tournaments while holding onto an unofficial relationship. Though I primarily spent my time at my school's Computer and Literature Club.

When we weren't writing, we played MMORPGs, MOBAs, and VR games. When we weren't gaming, we read anything from fantasy Isekai light novels to lengthy mystery paperbacks.

One day, we found a book that forever changed our lives. No one really expected it to be real; we were just dumb kids.

If only I could go back in time.. I would have burned that book and saved all of them from their fates. If only we knew the pain, the sorrow, and the anxiety that would come with this new world.

I will never forget the day. It was raining; the sound of thunder echoed throughout the building as I walked in and joined the group.

I shook the dripping water from my umbrella and threw my backpack onto the round table,

"Hey everyone."

Koji closed the book he was reading,

"Yuki, running late today I see? Sit down, Mina said she had something to show us."

We all sat around a table in the library as Minamoto brought over this old book. Even covered in dust, it glimmered as she walked over to us—though, I can't say if it was her or the book that was glimmering.

*Slam!*

Mina dropped the book on the table, dust scattering from every corner, filling the air around us like a wall of smoke.

Confused, I coughed and asked,

"This book looks old… Minamoto? What is this thing?"

I blew off the dust from the top of the book. Revealing the name.

"The Past, Present and Future of the World of Avalon."

Minamoto smirked,

"I'm glad you asked!"

She then raised her finger in the air as she started to walk around the table.

"I was talking to one of our old professors and he told me this story about a mysterious book with tales of another world. The recorded histories and future of a world called Avalon, a fantasy world of swords and sorcery."
