While Du Yue's training pushed her to her limits, Su Wen wasn't playing around either.
Despite his relaxed, cheerful demeanour, his concentration remained firmly locked on his own cultivation.
His steps appeared calm and effortless, but in truth, every stride spanned several metres, his feet blurring faintly as ripples of distorted space spread beneath them.
He was continuously tempering his understanding and was already only a hair's breadth away from fully comprehending Grade 3 Space Intent.
And yet Du Yue, despite the immense load weighing her down, kept pace beside him as if it were nothing more than a casual stroll.
Still, she couldn't stop stealing resentful glances at him, her expression filled with the grievances of a wife pushed far past her limits.
"Wifey, don't look at me like that. This isn't punishment for making me fly around in that raging sword tornado," Su Wen said righteously.
"This is training… to give you better control over your inner strength, your body, your Soul Sense, your spiritual qi, and your Snow Intent. It's definitely not a punishment for being a bad wife. I swear I'm telling the truth."
Du Yue looked at him with a straight face, but her eyes narrowed sharply.
"Husband…" she said softly. "After I finish this training… I'll show you just how good of a wife I am."
Her gaze sharpened, like a wolf staring at a helpless lamb.
Cold sweat beaded on Su Wen's forehead, as though he were being watched by his natural predator. Still, forcing a calm and confident expression, he immediately tried to coax her.
"No need, my wife! No need!" he said, gently massaging her shoulders. "You're already a good wife. There's no one in the world like you."
He hurriedly fawned a little more, trying to send her straight to the Nine Heavens.
"Wife, good is still lacking… You!?...You're the best wife in the whole universe itself!"
She turned her head to look at him, her eyes dangerously narrowed, a chilling smile spreading across her face.
"Oh… how do you know I'm the best wife?" she asked slowly. "Husband… do you have other wives behind my back?"
Su Wen stumbled a step forward before somehow regaining his balance. He looked at her with a strange expression, but still in the end, decided to play his part.
With his hands behind his back, he put on the most righteous and innocent face he could muster.
"Impossible! My wife… absolutely impossible!"
He looked at her seriously and spoke as if declaring the highest law of this world.
"My heart… my soul… my cultivation, my robes, my home, my spirit stones, my dinner, my little Suzume… my everything belongs to you alone!"
He lifted his hand and gave her a friendly slap on the upper back, like talking to a sworn brother.
"With you watching over me… cough… I mean, with you as my guardian wife, no other woman would even dare come near me."
"Hmph!" Du Yue snorted softly.
"You'd better be telling the truth," she said as she grabbed his chin like a mob boss, her voice slow and dangerous.
"Otherwise… I'll skin you alive and wear it myself, so you can never leave my side."
Su Wen felt cold all over and immediately nodded like a pecking chicken.
Seeing this, Du Yue released his chin and nodded as well. Though her eyes still glinted with danger, the pressure around her finally eased.
She turned her head away, secretly pleased and smug after being called his guardian wife, a smile tugging at her lips… one far more sinister than sweet.
Su Wen sighed inwardly and silently prayed that she stayed happy at all times. Otherwise… he could forget about his own happiness.
Seven days passed as they continued their journey toward the Central Continent.
Du Yue no longer wore any veil or disguise… purely so that "her husband could see her all the time."
Cultivators occasionally passed by them along the road, casting strange looks their way.
Both of them were clearly focused on their training, but Du Yue in particular drew attention, appearing like a Celestial Goddess walking the snowy path, with celestial spheres revolving above her head.
Whenever others tried to look at her face, all they saw was a blur, her features obscured by a layer of Soul Sense.
Eventually, she couldn't even be bothered with that anymore. Instead, she simply released her Golden Core realm aura outright, frightening everyone who crossed their path.
Although their visit to Moon City had been short and very specific… causing chaos, looting resources, helping people, drinking wine, comprehending Sword Intent, and then leaving… they didn't spare it a second thought once they exited the city.
To them, it was nothing special… just clearing some accounts along the way..
However, news of Moon City spread like wildfire, sparking a massive uproar across nearly every city in the southern region of the Eastern Continent.
City Lords were official officers appointed by the Great Eastern Sect to manage and govern cities and nearby towns.
They represented the authority of the sect itself.
To go against a City Lord was, in essence, to go against the Great Eastern Sect.
Likewise, if a City Lord committed crimes or violated the law, it would stain the sect's reputation.
That was why the sect had appointed emissaries to keep them in check.
This time, the emissaries had failed with Moon City's City Lord. They would inevitably be questioned.
Not only that, the lords of other cities and towns would also come under scrutiny.
But all of that had nothing to do with Su Wen and Du Yue.
If anyone wanted answers, they could go ask the handsome Young Master K, that unknown scar-faced subordinate of his, or the mysterious senior who had helped expose the culprits.
The two of them were now heading toward Sky Way City, one of the main trading hubs of the southern Eastern Continent.
From there, they planned to take Flying Boat… the public transport of the cultivation world… toward the Great Eastern City.
Although Transportation Portals existed in most major cities and trade hubs, allowing instant travel for a slightly higher cost, neither of them wanted to use one.
They wanted to train… to travel together… and to properly see the beauty this world had to offer.
