Chapter 17 - Gnat

Neil looked around, there were swords, spears, armors, normal clothes, arrows, leather bags, rope coins and more; though it was all for show.

They weren't items that could be used.

"I see." Neil nodded, then opened the shop.

He looked over the panel as a vast display popped before him.

He could see a lot of categories, a lot of mundane items and battle focused things that could be created in the workshop.

'I guess I can get weapons and armors for my army from here and clothes too, hmm this is nice.' He thought.

This place would be really helpful in every day life as well as for battles.

The display items were just useless, and getting a new good one would take some time.

Not to mention, Neil couldn't really find a good one in his low budget.

Being poor was such a bad thing, and Neil knew this feeling all this well.

After all, he wasn't that well off even back on Earth.

After thinking for a minute, he made a decision…

"Can you repair them?" Neil took out the axe and knife, that's all he could depend on for now.

"Of course lord, that's easy, just give me a minute." Mob said happily, then picking the two weapons he walked towards one of the rooms.

The dwarf was quite happy to not end up with a bad lord, after talking with Rob and Bob, he was even happier.

Neil stood outside the room and watched Mob work, it too was just as magical.

BANG BANG

The big hammer struck down at the weapons, then the dwarf rubbed the blade of axe against some metal.

In less than a minute, the craftsman was done, the two weapons looking even better than new.

"Here lord. I have increased their durability and lethality, though they are still mundane weapons so they wont be of much use." Mob said while passing the two.

Neil nodded, this much was pretty good… for now.

He just needed to fight a mythic class creature and then break into a Lizzard men settlement.

How simple and easy…

The reason why he was not getting any cheaper weapons was because he hoped to get something after killing the mythic class beast.

And even buying them won't make a difference.

After talking about a few more things, Neil left the place, while choosing the things he planned to buy the next time.

Now getting into the Nest was the urgent matter, he wasn't sure how things would go inside or how much time he would need.

Neil waited a little, and soon the vulture returned without any dead bodies.

Sadly, the nearby area was already cleaned by the lord whose territory was close by but thankfully, Neil also didn't have to worry about the safety.

Finally, he walked into the core building, stopping before the Nest.

His troop unfortunately couldn't enter this building, so Neil was unable to bring the vulture in there.

Nor could the guardian go into the Nest, otherwise he wouldn't have anything to worry.

[Nest]

After taking a deep breath, Neil looked at Magnar and asked: "Are you ready?"

Finally waking up, the little kitten let out a faint roar, sounding cute rather than dangerous.

Finally, he pushed open the door, as smoke rushed out.

After waiting for a few moments, Neil stepped into the Nest as the door automatically closed behind him.

[You have entered the Nest.]

[You can't leave until you have killed the Caustic Gnat.]

[Time remaining: ∞]

At least there was no time limit, after reading the name, Neil looked forward in confusion.

And at the far end of the large white space, lay a mangled up fly whose size was more than forty feet.

The fly was too fat and only had one wing, with several of its arms broken and mutated body.

A slight wound was visible where its other wing should have been.

It didn't seem the creature could even move.

"This fly is at the mythic class?! I wonder how much of its strength it still possess."

Neil mumbled, his heart started thumping loudly and his body tensed up.

He even looked over its status panel but couldn't find anything.

Neil just knew that it possessed abilities related to acid, so he was a bit confident with his Aquamorph skill.

Not to mention, a Diamond class familiar was with him too, the flames would certainly injure that enormous bug.

Even though the beast looked broken but it was still emitting deadly aura, almost freezing him up.

Even Magnar sensed the danger, jumping away from Neil, its body started growing rapidly.

And soon, it rose to thirty feet, looking quite similar to the Magma Bima Neil had killed but also considerably different.

But the familiar was still smaller than the Caustic Gnat.

[The Battle Begins…]

Just as the last message flashed, the Gnat's body tilted slightly, displaying its enormous glass like eyes.

Because of the pressure, Neil's body froze for a moment, but now he had better control over himself.

He easily broke through that layer of fear and was able to move again.

He couldn't use the same method as he did with Magma Bima to kill this beast.

Just then he noticed the Gnat's body tremble, then certain parts of its body started vibrating.

KRRIIIEERRRRIIIIEEEEEE

The Gnat let out a twisted screech at an extremely high pitch, making everything around shudder.

Magnar was affected, as the large familiar stumbled and almost fell but managed to stay on its feet.

On the other hand, Neil felt unimaginable pain.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaah" he clutched his head, feeling as if someone was directly stabbing his brain, again and again...

After a moment, blood spurted out of his nose, eyes, ears and mouth, and he had no way of blocking the sound attack.

Heck, he didn't even had the chance to do or even think anything.

Falling to his knees, Neil's nails sank into his skin, the pain was maddening until…

BOOM

His head exploded in a bloody mess, his body falling forward limply, instantly Magnar's body started to dissipate.

[You died!]

[Analyzer Activated.]

'Oh well, that was just wonderful, what a great start and this creature is supposed to be greatly weakened?'

Neil wanted to roll his eyes but had no control over his body, nor a head matter of factly.

[Would you like to restart/ continue?]

[Start Again/ Give up/ Continue?]

Starting again just meant dying from that scream again, it seemed Neil would be dying plenty of times in this battle.

'CONTINUE!!'

The reality buzzed for a moment, and then Neil appeared back at the same spot, kneeling on the ground.

Thankfully there were no injuries and the Gnat had already stopped its scream, pausing in a rather strange manner.

The familiar was also back.

"Hoo Magnar, attack!!" In this battle he would have to depend mostly on his familiar, but there was still a lot he could do.

[Aquamorph activated.]

'Nemo, helmet on.' He commanded, though it would not do much to protect him against that high pitched screech.

Then a gush of thick, translucent gel erupted from his palms.

The viscous damping fluid, denser than honey but laced with micro bubbles that trapped sound like a spider's web.

It slathered his helmet in seconds, the pearlescent slime clinging tightly, and hardening instantly.

This might not completely remove the threat, but his head won't explode again.

Or so he hoped…

Magnar, returning to its senses, let out a deafening roar and charged forward.

The laziness was completely gone, the two big horns over its head glowing with a red flash.

Neil charged from the other side, he formed a big bubble of highly inflammable fluid, hoping the Gnat doesn't have resistance towards fire.

After all, his plan was to use Magnar to burn that fly to a crisp.

Or rather, that was the only way he could think of killing the mythic class beast.

The fly like creature suddenly started buzzing, before a big hole appeared over its head, opening like a mouth.

In the next instant, an endless stream of greenish fluid rushed towards the ceiling of the large white space.

'Is that…' Neil easily recognised the fluid and its property, shouting:

"Magnar, decrease your size and come here!"

Then he pulled a blanket from his spatial storage just as the green rain was about to drop all over the floor.

Magnar dismissed its attack, and returned to its small size before jumping into Neil's arm.

Neil hurriedly covered himself with the blanket while getting it drenched with the liquid nitrogen.

TIP TIP TIP

"So it stays true to its name, haa I was right. Magnar, we will attack right as this rain ends."

Neil said, as the rain started falling over the blanket covering them.

The moment that green liquid came in contact with the blanket it would freeze, creating yet another layer of protection.

Neil also needed to preserve his energy, hoping to finish the battle as soon as possible.

But while the rain was falling, a loud banging sound was heard, but Neil had no time to see or move.
