Silence was not the absence of sound.
It was the absence of meaning.
After the final battle, nothing was ever the same again.
Not because everything had changed...
But because there was nothing left that could be changed.
The multiverse—that vast network of realities, timelines, worlds, and possibilities that had once pulsed with countless forms of life—had died.
Not because of an evil act.
Not because of a curse.
But because of the sheer magnitude of the conflict that had sought to save it.
Elisa floated.
She did not walk. She did not move.
She simply existed, drifting aimlessly.
She had been cast into an abandoned dimension.
A forsaken, desolate reality.
A universe without history, without purpose.
One that even the Guardians themselves had discarded like a failed draft, a forgotten corner of existence.
The hat was still with her.
But it no longer shone.
After the battle, she had used the last residue of nonexistence remaining within it to close the dimensional rifts that still remained.
It could no longer travel, nor fight, nor even dream. And yet that no longer mattered. During the battle, Elisa had forged such a profound bond and control over the hat that all of its power now resided within her. Her hair shone, and entire galaxies could be seen swirling inside it. Her eyes no longer had pupils; they had been replaced by complete nebulas. She had finally become the goddess the hat had wanted her to become when it chose her.
But Elisa no longer cared.
Even powerless, she kept the hat as a reminder.
It became a symbol.
Of what once was.
Of what would never be again.
And of what she had become through everything she had lived.
A being of a higher existence, born at the cost of an entire lower one.
Days passed in that absolute void...
There were no stars, no sun, no time.
Only the ruins of collapsed dimensions drifting in the distance like the remains of unfinished universes.
Elisa could not stop remembering her.
"Astrid..."
She whispered the name like a mantra.
She remembered the final smile.
The way Astrid fell—not with hatred, but with understanding.
The way they had understood each other for a brief instant, despite how broken they both were...
...only to part as enemies.
That was the true wound.
Not that she had lost.
But that she had won at the cost of everything.
Time passed—or whatever remained of it—and Elisa walked through a fragment of a world that had once been a library.
There she found books that had never been written.
Incomplete stories.
Unfinished thoughts.
Dreams that no one had dreamed.
She sat there.
And cried.
Not because she had hope.
But because she no longer knew what else to do.
There were no rifts.
No universes.
No war.
Only her.
And that forgotten universe.
A thousand more silences passed.
Elisa sat upon a stone that had once been a continent.
She looked upward.
The sky was still empty.
And she thought:
"Perhaps this is what I am now."
"The only voice in a universe that has no one left to hear it."
"A god who is neither wise nor divine."
But she did not rise.
She did not scream.
She did not summon her powers.
She simply closed her eyes.
And once again, one final time, she saw her younger self, who only looked at her in silence.
"Elisa... I... I'm so sorry. I think in the end I couldn't fulfill your dream," Elisa said as a tear of darkness rolled down her face.
"But tell me... are you still yourself? After everything, can you still change?"
Elisa remained silent, unable to answer. Her younger self approached, caressed her cheek, and asked:
"Can the world still become better, Elisa?"
The younger Elisa began to fade away as the present Elisa watched her, but at last she understood what she had to do.
She could not leave things as they were.
She had sealed the rifts, but... at what cost? The entire multiverse had died in the battle, and Elisa had no one left: no family, no world, no one who understood her. She realized she could not allow everything she had lived through and sacrificed to have been meaningless.
"Yes... it can still change."
She was now the Goddess of Nonexistence, and she knew it. She could not revive or resurrect her reality, but... she did not need to.
"I can't fix everything, but I don't have to... I only need to start from zero once again," she said as she began restoring Astrid's brooch with her powers.
Elisa could not create something new, nor recreate what had been destroyed. However, that was not what she was doing. She was not creating a new brooch; she was simply reconstructing the one that had already existed.
Molecule by molecule.
Particle by particle.
Every fragment of the brooch that had become cosmic dust.
She restored it to its original state.
And then, after rebuilding it...
She assimilated it.
She merged it with her powers of nonexistence to accomplish the unthinkable.
Elisa raised her hand holding the brooch, and with a single motion, she destroyed the Second Existence. Then, standing within that dimensional void, she restarted everything that had ever existed.
Using her own life and essence as fuel—wielding a force opposite to herself—she remade the entire multiverse and all its inhabitants.
She rebuilt every planet, galaxy, universe, and even time itself from nothing.
Then she recreated the life she had once sought to protect.
She recreated her race.
Her family.
And Astrid.
But this time, Elisa would ensure things were different. This time she would not allow the multiverse to collapse again, nor permit any universe to be erased.
Using the little essence she still retained of herself, she spread her being throughout the Second Existence.
She died in order to become reality itself.
She disappeared in order to exist everywhere.
And before she faded completely...
She looked at Astrid one last time, who was still only a soul within her mother's womb.
"Don't worry. This time I'll make sure you never suffer that same pain again. Neither you nor anyone else will ever be in danger or forgotten. I will personally see to that. This time, you and every being in existence will be protected by me for eternity. So... live, Astrid... live."
Elisa was on the verge of disappearing, and she remembered her younger self one final time.
"Elisa... I think that, in a way, I did fulfill your dream. Now I will be the multiverse itself. So when someone looks at the sky with joy or hope, they will be looking at me. When they ask the stars for guidance, they will be asking me. And when they cry and seek comfort from the stars, they will be asking me, and I will give it to them. When they rejoice in being alive and thank the universe for existing, they will be thanking me. I suppose that, in a way, everyone really will accept me and love me. I did it. I am Elisa Holstar and... I'm glad to be."
At that moment, Elisa vanished.
All she left behind was her hat, now nothing more than a powerless relic from a previous existence...
And something else.
Years passed.
On the newly reborn planet, named Vita, its inhabitants were celebrating a cultural festival. A four-year-old girl named Astrid wandered through a remote forest gathering flowers when she happened to find a black hat.
"What is a hat doing here in the middle of nowhere?... That's strange. I can't help feeling that there's something familiar about it."
At that moment, Astrid felt a strange sensation. It was as if someone were embracing her, as if the universe itself were wrapping around her soul. The feeling was unusual, yet deeply comforting, as though existence itself were protecting her.
Then her mother's voice called her back, telling her to return. Astrid handed the hat to her mother, and together they left it at a lost-and-found stand before returning to the festival.
Hours later, while gazing at the stars and nearly falling asleep in her mother's lap, Astrid asked herself a question:
"Where have I seen that hat before?"
She did not know that somewhere in that universe, an object that had once belonged to her was waiting to reunite with its bearer once again.
But this time not for the purpose of uniting realities, as it had once been used.
Instead, it waited to turn her into the role she had never been able to fulfill in a previous reality:
Into a future goddess who would protect her existence.
