"How do you feel?" Umbra asked, as he sat opposite to her.
"Empty, exhausted but free." She touched the back of her neck where the chip had been.
There was no scar, no proof that it ever existed even.
"It's really gone?"
"Yes. I dissolved every trace of the earth technology." He stood up. "Though earth will notice the signal loss. They'll know something happened to the chip."
Suddenly, the air in the chamber split opened. It wasn't a portal, or a doorway, but a tear in dimensional fabric. Through it, Nyx heard a familiar voice.
"Subject Keller. I know you can hear me."
It was Director Zhao.
Umbra moved instantly and tried to reinforce the walls with shadow magic but the voice continued.
