"What do you mean by being careful?" Kai's father asked. "Go back into hiding?"
"I meant you all being aware of threats. I wish I could offer more protection, but politics is complicated."
"Because some kings want us dead." Lamia said.
"Yes. Darius Bloodmaw specifically has made his stance clear. He views hybrids as threats and wants to kill all of you."
"So, we've to go back to hiding." The elderly woman said bitterly. "Then why did we come here? There's no improvement."
"But it's still better than nothing, and maybe if some of us refuse to stay invisible, eventually they'll have to accept that we're not going away."
"Or they'll kill us all at once." Someone said.
"That's possible too." Nyx didn't lie. "I'm not going to pretend this is safe. But living while hidden, alone, and terrified, is not really living either."
"So what are you proposing?" Kai's father asked. "That we all come out publicly? That's suicide."
