Chapter 9 - Chapter 8: nux

The park erupted in a blinding, white-hot wall of light.

The two Corrupted Girls shrieked, clutching their eyes as the magnesium flares burned through their eyes. In the vacuum of the silence that followed the bangs, there was only the sound of Nux's boots crunching on the gravel slow, deliberate, and terrifyingly calm.

"My eyes! You bitch, I'll tear your head out!" the girl with the jagged wings screamed, swinging her dark mana blindly into the air.

Nux tilted my head, watching the dark energy whistle past her ear with an inch to spare. She didn't even flinch. "Really? Well then we shall see don't we. " Nux whispered, her voice echoing with a dual-toned resonance.

"You're swinging towards nowhere while the real target is standing right in behind you."

Nux didn't summon the minigun. Instead, she reached into the air and pulled out two long, silver stakes anti-tank spikes modified with triggers.

"Let's see how those wings work when they're pinned to the dirt," Nux chuckled.

With a burst of speed that cracked the pavement, she was suddenly behind the winged girl. Before the corrupted magical girl could react, Nux fired the first spike towards the corrupted magical girl but she managed dodge the spear, then it exploded near her.

"AGH!"

"supprise?" Nux hummed. She spun around the girl's flailing body, dodging a desperate swipe from the second corrupted girl the one who had been giggling earlier.

The giggler wasn't laughing anymore. Her hands had transformed into obsidian blades, and she was slashing with a frantic, messy desperation. "Get away from her! You're supposed to be scared! Why aren't you scared?!"

"Oh? You're aren't scary for me," Nux said, catching the obsidian blade with her bare, mana-coated hand. The sound of grinding glass filled the air. "The truth is the game was rigged from the start."

Nux kicked the magical girl in the chest, sending her tumbling back toward a tree. Then, she turned her attention back to the winged girl, who was struggling to move.

"You like toys? I have better ones than miniguns," Nux whispered. She snapped her fingers.

The air above the park rippled. It wasn't just one gun this time. A dozen floating, spectral rifles appeared in a halo around her.

[The Volley: The rifles fired in a synchronized pattern, stitching a circle of fire around the two enemies, trapping them in a kill zone.

The Payload: From the center of the halo, Nux summoned a single, oversized grenade launcher.]

"Wait, wait!" the winged girl gasped, her eyes finally clearing, wide with genuine terror. "We were just testing you! The Master said—"

"Your master can have your leftovers," Nux interrupted.

THUMP.

The grenade didn't explode with fire. It exploded with void. A localized gravity well snapped open, dragging the two Corrupted Girls toward each other, their limbs tangling as they were crushed into a tight, screaming ball of dark mana and silk.

Nux stood at the edge of the gravity well, watching them struggle with a look of pure, clinical boredom. The red glow in her eyes pulsed like a heartbeat.

"So," Nux said, leaning down to look the 'giggler' in the face. "So tell me who do you work for and how many of you are there?"

The girl coughed up black bile, her face contorted. "I... Will never tell He will be coming my lord will save us..."

Nux's grin widened, showing far too many teeth. "No one is coming for you, no one but don't worry i will free you from this place."

She raised a hand, a massive, jagged cannon materializing over her shoulder, the barrel glowing with a sickly violet light.

"Wait!" I shouted from the back of our shared mind. "We need info! Don't kill them yet!"

Nux paused, the cannon humming with enough power to level the city block. She let out a long, disappointed sigh. "You're no fun, 'Me.' Fine. We'll keep one."

She fired not at them, but at the ground beneath them. The shockwave knocked the girls unconscious and shattered the gravity well.

As the dust settled, Nux looked up at the moon. The red tint in her vision began to fade, and I felt myself sliding back into the driver's seat. My hands were shaking, and the smell of gunpowder was sickeningly sweet.

"I'm back," I whispered, my voice cracking.

"For now," Nux's voice drifted in the back of my head, sounding sleepy and satisfied.

I looked down at the two defeated girls. One was unconscious, the other was barely breathing. In the distance, I heard the sirens.

"Shit," I muttered, grabbing the winged girl by her collar to drag her into the shadows.

"Mimi i better get something out of this."
