The Real Test

After hours of interviews, parchment stacks filled the table. I rubbed my temples. "This is harder than killing a kraken," I muttered.

Henry laughed. "At least the kraken didn't complain about pillows."

Joff leaned down. "You did well."

"I know," I sighed. "But this isn't just a building. This place sets a standard. If Agro Hotel succeeds—"

"The kingdom changes," Henry finished.

I nodded then stood and addressed the remaining candidates. "Agro Hotel is not noble playground," I said clearly. "It is neutral ground. Royals, merchants, adventurers, commoners—everyone will walk these halls."

I paused. "If you believe status excuses incompetence, leave now."

Two nobles stood and exited silently. Good. "Those who remain," I continued, "will work harder than you ever have. You will clean. You will listen. You will protect guests with your lives."

Silence. Then—one by one—they bowed.

I exhaled. Joff smiled faintly. Henry grinned. "You just rewrote hospitality."
