Chapter 6
The whole day was just me and Nae talking to each other about stuff. Like how Nae told me she doesn't get to talk to many people her age due to her father always going from city to city. She told me that she is a mage. I was confused because I thought everyone was a mage but it turns out that you can only be a mage if you have five or more affinities. She has lighting, water, wind, nature, and mental. Mental was new to me. Apparently mental magic is like telekinesis and mind reading. It's something only mages can use.
ThinkIng back I do remember seeing mental magic on the slab.
It was when the sun was almost out of sight that she asked me a question that almost made my heart jump.
"Wh- what did you say?" I asked the question but I was hoping for a different answer. My hands were sweating, my eyes shaking from the possibility of what she asked me means.
"I said, are you Antonio Matthews?" She said it but I can hear the fear in her voice. It was as if I said no to this very question. She would no longer be able to hope to find me.
Right as I was about to answer her the world seemed to freeze. I looked around and everybody was not moving. "What the hell is going on?" I said out loud.
It was then that a light was descending from the sky. Well, light is not the best way to put it as the light was pitch black.
"So we finally meet Antonio." The light said its voice sounding sad and mad.
"Who are you?" I asked with my hand on the hilt of my sword.
"I'm Noir, the goddess of darkness. I am the one you are connected to in this world. Sadly we don't have much time so I'll get down to business. This girl is who you think she is but the entity that brought her to this world is different then us." Noir said with anger in their voice.
"Different how?" I questioned.
"They are.." right when they were about to say that I got a weird headache. "It seems even though they broke the rules only some of the restrictions have been lifted." Noir continues. "So these entities are breaking the rules by actively interfering in the world. They are about to attack your group because this girl is sure of who you are."
It was then that my headache went away. "So you want me to lie to her." I said, the tone of my voice was very irritating. "You want me to lie to my friend that I've known since I was a kid. Do you see her face? She is one step from losing hope that she will ever see any of us. Yet you want me to destroy that last piece of hope?"
"Tone, I can't tell you who the entity is yet but trust me you'll be saving her from worse by lying to her right now." Noir said, the sadness in her voice was back.
"I see you already knew I wasn't going to like this. Fine, I follow your instructions." I said.
"Thank you and as a gift I'll impart some knowledge of some lightning magic to you." After she said that my understanding of lighting magic increased as if I had always known it.
"Wow, that was a different experience." I said jokingly. "But why not teach me darkness magic." I said confused as to why.
"You need to be careful when you use your chosen element as you will have some of my essence in the magic."
"I see that puts me in a bad position but I'll make do." I said as I prepared myself.
"Please try not to die, you and your friends are more important than you know." It was then that Noir disappeared and time resumed.
I look at Nae in her eyes "Antonio matthews? No no no my name Tone is not short for anything plus I don't have a last name. I'm a commoner, remember?"
Her face turned dark, her eyes looked devoid of emotions and then a sickening voice spoke. "Oh, then I have no need for you."
I didn't even worry about what else that thing wanted to say. I screamed one word to let everyone know "Prepare!" The moment they heard that everyone grabbed their weapons and looked around. For a minute nothing happened.
One of the mercs said "aye kid this ain't no gam…" the next second his head has a Spear through it.
Within the next minute all hell broke loose, fights were happening left and right. People were losing their lives and they were not going to be given another chance.
"Hey kid, where are you looking?" I turned my head towards the voice. Right in my face was the point of a sword. I take a step back and activate the spark spell hoping to shock the guy to give myself some time. As the spell activates I trip and hit the sword instead. The guy starts to convulse from this lightning.
"Yea top of the to do list make sure the handle of my sword is not conductive." I said as I got up from the ground.
Paul came over "I didn't know you know lightning spells?" I just shrugged my shoulders and moved my sword to parry a guy running at me. Paul then stabbed him for the kill.
Tone and Paul both run through the now bloody battlefield. Tone parrying attacks At him and Paul killing all that's in their way. After crossing the battlefield they find Steward at the front of the caravan. Steward stood at the top of a carriage with a bow and arrow shooting down or injuring enemies so that his man could kill them.
As they got closer Paul screamed Steward's name to let him know it was them. The men made way for them to inter the circlement around Steward.
"Paul, I'm happy to see you and the boy is OK. Steward said between knocking another arrow and releasing it stabbing right into a guy's throat.
Paul nods his head. "I'm happy to see that you're ok, old friend."
As they talked something was bothering me to the point I had to ask about it. "Steward sir, where is your daughter?"
Without looking back he said "I don't have a daughter."
A really bad feeling starts to come over me. "What do you mean? So that girl in the carriage I was next to was someone else's daughter?" I inquired trying to get rid of the idea that was appearing in my head.
This time he stopped and spoke as he turned to look at me. "No one should be in any of the.." he stopped mid sentence as both him and Paul looked at me with faces that were palling at a visible speed. It was then that I felt myself being pulled backwards.
Next thing I know I'm still in the woods but I'm no longer near the fight. I look around only to see a guy standing and looking at me. He then began to speak. "So you're one of the kids they want me to kill."
'One of the kids?' I was confused by that because I was told a second ago that I'm the only kid that was there.
Then at that moment the guy ran towards me and threw a punch. I dodged to the left only to see where I was standing and a crater had been made. 'Fuck i would have died if that had hit me.'
I brought out my sword and swung the sword at him. To my dismay he caught the sword in his hand then kicked me in my chest. I felt my feet leave the ground, my head jerked forward and my body flew backwards. I rolled on the ground until I hit a tree.
"Man you're so weak I don't know why he said you all would be problems if we let you grow up." The man said with a look of disdain on his face.
I got up using the help of my sword that was still in my hand. It seems he let it go when he kicked me.
'This is bad, he already moved faster than me and he hits like a truck. I can feel that I have a few broken ribs. Think, there has to be a way to defeat him.'
The man started walking up to him while he was deep in thought and prepared to finish the job. His fists began to have fire surrounding them as he put them together above his head and then down like a hammer. It was then that the boy deep in thought lifted his head up with eyes sparking with lightning. The boy somehow moved out of the way of his attack and with the same motion stabbed his sword at his eye.
The man fell on his butt screaming with the sword still in his eye. Tone with the lightning no longer in his eyes was on the ground. 'Shit it seems using the lightning to speed up my thinking made me move quicker than I'm able to but now my muscles feel like they were torn apart.'
I looked at the guy who was screaming and realized that I can't out run him in the state I'm in so only one thing to do he raised one hand and pointed it at his sword in the guy's eye. It was then that lightning started to coil around in the air and shot out at the sword. When the lightning hit the sword it was like it summoned heavenly tribulation as the lightning fail from the Heavens to meet the sword. The sword was now shocking the guy until he fell over with his face right next to Tone's.
