Isolde's lips curved into a thin, sharp smile.
"Don't underestimate us, Adam."
Her hands rising as blood began to swirl around her—a dark, crimson tide that spread outward in all directions. The blood pooled on the grass, rippling like liquid shadow, spreading across the clearing in a widening circle.
Adam's eyes narrowed. He leaped back, his wings snapping open to carry him out of the spreading pool. But as he rose, Lilith's voice drifted from behind him, smooth and patient.
"I've been waiting for you."
He turned. Lilith stood at the edge of the clearing, her hand raised, Soulreaver already dissolving into a dozen smaller fragments that hovered in the air around her like a halo of gleaming shards. They pulsed with dark light, each one aimed at a different point in his trajectory.
Adam's voice carried a note of amused disbelief as he assessed the situation.
"Overkill much?"
Lilith's smile widened, her voice carrying a note of playful satisfaction.
