Chapter 91 - Chapter 90: Relationship Upgrade

"How is that possible?"

"What exactly is going on?"

Tom first sensed the magic he had left in the washroom being disturbed. That could only mean one thing—someone had opened the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets using Parseltongue.

Shock and disbelief surged through him. At the same time, fragments of memory surfaced in his mind, leaving him momentarily disoriented.

Once he fully processed it, Tom roughly pieced everything together.

Simply put, Harry and that girl had gone to that washroom by chance. Then, by sheer coincidence, Harry had spoken the Parseltongue word "Open," triggering the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets.

"So that's what happened… Is it really just coincidence?"

He muttered to himself, his gaze distant. Even now, he found it hard to believe such a dramatic turn of events had occurred.

Was it fate… or just chance?

Tom couldn't say for sure. Perhaps it was both.

But one thing was certain—his curiosity about Harry Potter had grown even stronger.

As everyone knew, Parseltongue was extremely rare in the wizarding world. The reason could be summed up in one word: bloodline.

In Britain, only the Gaunt family possessed this ability, having inherited it from Salazar Slytherin. Other branches existed in France and Germany, but they were few.

Throughout history, pure-blood wizarding families had been most concentrated in these three regions. Elsewhere, due to various historical shifts, only a handful had managed to retain their lineage.

The very concept of pure-blood status came from the ancient magical power passed down through bloodlines.

Parseltongue was one of the more unique manifestations of that power.

Some historians speculated that Parseltongue could be traced back to the infamous ancient Greek Dark wizard, Herpo the Foul. If that were true, then anyone capable of speaking it might share his lineage.

At the time, that theory had caused quite a stir in the magical world.

Because of that, when Tom saw Harry using Parseltongue, he couldn't fully hide his surprise—something Draco, who stood across from him, immediately noticed.

"Did something happen, my friend?"

"Draco, I have something to take care of. We'll meet again later."

"Is there anything I can help with?"

Even knowing he was too weak to be of real assistance, Draco still asked eagerly.

"Not right now."

Tom shook his head. He was about to leave, but hesitated. A faint trace of struggle crossed his face before he spoke again.

"You should keep your distance from me… at least until graduation, Draco."

"I will confront that person eventually, and when that happens… it will be difficult for you to stand by me."

"Oh, and take this."

With a flick of his wand, a delicate bracelet adorned with gemstones floated through the air and landed in Draco's hand.

"What is this?"

"A fairly good magical protective item. Besides protection, it has another important function."

"What function?"

"Communication. It allows us to stay in contact regardless of distance… though it consumes a considerable amount of magic."

Tom produced another bracelet identical in design. The only difference was the gemstone.

One glowed a deep crimson, richer than blood. The other shimmered in a dark sapphire blue.

Each gem radiated its own brilliance under the influence of magic.

Draco took the blue bracelet just as it reached him, but before he could say anything, Tom had already turned and walked away without looking back.

To ensure his revival before Dumbledore arrived, Tom moved quickly, enhancing his speed with magic.

If not for the anti-Apparition enchantments covering Hogwarts, he would have pushed himself even further tonight.

On the other side, Harry and Hermione exchanged glances before finally deciding to enter the dark passage and see where it led.

Both of them immediately raised their wands, ready for anything.

Knowing she couldn't stop Harry, Hermione quickly shared her thoughts, hoping he would be more cautious next time.

"Thank you, Hermione… but let's stop here. You should go back."

Harry, who had been crouching, paused. He looked up at her seriously.

He didn't want her to be in danger. His first instinct was to send her away.

"We're partners, Harry. One person doesn't abandon the other."

Hermione understood exactly what he was thinking—but she didn't call him out on it.

Instead, she crouched down, preparing to enter the passage with him. Once she was inside, he wouldn't be able to stop her.

Unless Harry chose to leave altogether—which he wouldn't.

"Hermione, it's better if you stay up here. If something happens, I'll need you to inform the professors. That way, I can go in without worrying."

Harry reached out and grabbed her wrist, trying to persuade her to stay.

Hermione froze for a moment. A faint blush appeared on her face as she looked into his eyes, but she didn't pull away.

"No need. I've already arranged that."

"In a moment, messages will reach the professors—including Professor Dumbledore."

"So, Harry… you don't need to worry about help not arriving."

Before he could respond, Hermione suddenly stepped forward and hugged him.

Harry's entire body stiffened.

"Sometimes… facing something together is better than facing it alone, isn't it?"
