Mrs. Moana Moore was completely unable to calm herself. It was as if she had just grasped a life-saving straw, she held my hand tightly and spoke in an agitated voice:
"We take the medicine you prescribed every single day. We went back to the hospital for a follow-up a few days ago, and even the doctor said my husband's heart condition has improved quite a lot. His cardiac function is much more stable now. The doctor even said… it's practically a miracle."
Mr. Moore, standing beside her, couldn't help but join in, his tone full of sincerity. "Besides, the medicine you prescribed isn't bitter at all, it's very easy to take. This old man doesn't feel uncomfortable drinking it in the slightest."
I smiled and reminded them gently, "In daily life, you still need to pay attention to your diet and routine. Try not to let your emotions fluctuate too much whether it's excessive joy or excessive sorrow, neither is good for the heart."
The two of them nodded repeatedly, listening to every word I said with serious, trusting expressions. In their eyes, I saw a kind of light that only those who had once stood on the brink of life and death possessed pure respect and gratitude.
Only after hearing them talk did I learn that they had been looking for me ever since that incident. That day, they had left a business card, but I was too busy and never followed up. I never expected to run into them at this restaurant today… let alone under such circumstances.
They had seen my photo on Facebook before, but only glanced at it casually and didn't recognize me. If they had known I was the one who saved Mr. Moore, they probably would have come to my house long ago to thank me.
"Your name is Rosy, right?" Mrs. Moana Moore patted the back of my hand lightly, her eyes full of affection. "You're truly a good child."
She looked at me as if I were her own granddaughter. In her gaze, I could clearly see a very realistic yet straightforward belief, a doctor who can save lives is someone no one would dare to look down on, no matter their social class. No matter how much money one has, it's meaningless if there's no life left to spend it.
The fact that Captian could marry me… in their eyes, was truly the result of generations of accumulated blessings.
Just moments ago, she had still felt wronged on Wendy's behalf, yet in such a short time, I had completely "won her over."
As for Wendy standing right beside us, she was utterly ignored.
I saw her bite her lip tightly, her eyes filled with confusion and unwillingness. She clearly couldn't understand… what on earth was happening.
The two people in front of me were both well-known philanthropists in the city of Alchimie, influential and respected. Wendy had gotten to know them through family connections and her eloquence. At first, she must have thought they would be the ones to help her "deal with" me.
But unexpectedly, the situation had completely reversed.
"Mr. Moore, Mrs. Moore… do you know my sister-in-law?" Unwilling to be overlooked, Wendy stepped forward and asked, struggling to keep her voice calm.
Mrs. Moana Moore nodded, growing agitated again. "Yes. Back then, my husband's heart condition suddenly worsened. It was Rosy who handled the emergency treatment in time, stabilizing his heart rate and blood pressure. He regained consciousness shortly afterward."
Wendy froze once more.
She turned to look at me, covering her mouth, her voice full of shock.
"Sister-in-law… you're incredible. I never imagined you were so skilled in medicine."
I admitted it calmly, "I'm an internal medicine doctor, specializing in cardiology and emergency critical care."
"Thank goodness for you…" Wendy said, her voice carrying a trace of gratitude.
I simply smiled. "It's what a doctor is supposed to do."
As we talked, the four of us entered a private room. Since everyone was now acquainted, I gradually relaxed, no longer feeling as awkward as I had at first.
After we sat down, the Moores were exceedingly warm toward me to the point that they once again forgot Wendy even existed.
"Rosy, the food here is very good. Eat a bit more," Mrs. Moana Moore said, her tone as affectionate as family.
I smiled in response.
Just as I turned my head, I saw Mr. Moore trying to secretly pick up a piece of spicy chicken. Startled, I hurriedly stopped him. "Mr. Moore, this dish is too spicy. It's not suitable for your current heart condition."
"This old man sneaking spicy food behind my back again!" Mrs. Moana Moore immediately shot him a glare, her tone stern.
Mr. Moore withdrew his chopsticks dejectedly, stealing a glance at me, his eyes full of complaint as if blaming me for ruining his "good deed."
"There's pumpkin and vegetables here. These are good for your heart. You should eat more of them." I turned the lazy Susan toward him.
Mr. Moore looked at me with eyes that seemed on the verge of tears clearly, he still craved spicy food.
"And you still dare to look?" Mrs. Moana Moore tapped his head lightly, pretending to be angry. "You've only just recovered a little, are you trying to ruin all the previous effort?"
Hearing that, Mr. Moore immediately obediently picked up a few pieces of pumpkin and vegetables.
Only then did Mrs. Moana Moore smile in satisfaction.
Watching the elderly couple interact like this, I couldn't help but smile as well. To be able to grow old together and still retain such care and affection… was truly rare.
At the dining table, everyone chatted and laughed happily. Only Wendy, no matter how hard she tried couldn't bring herself to feel cheerful.
She was ignored, isolated, as if her presence didn't matter at all completely different from the scenario she had originally imagined.
Yet she still had to smile, still had to maintain proper manners. By the end, her face had grown stiff from smiling too long. Even the exquisite dishes before her tasted like chewing wax.
Finally, Wendy couldn't take it anymore and found an excuse to leave. "Mr. Moore, Mrs. Moore, Sister-in-law… I have something to take care of, so I'll be leaving first."
Only then did Mrs. Moana Moore glance at her. "Then go on. Don't delay."
Wendy forced a stiff smile. "Please enjoy your meal. I'll take my leave."
Wendy's departure didn't make the atmosphere awkward. On the contrary, the table became even warmer and livelier just like a family meal.
After eating, Mr. Moore suggested driving me home. I didn't refuse.
About twenty minutes later, I arrived back at the villa. The more I thought about it, the more certain I became, Wendy had deliberately taken a detour that morning.
A romantic rival… truly frightening.
As soon as I got out of the car, I noticed a man standing at the villa gate, as if about to ring the doorbell.
Taking a closer look, I immediately recognized him. "Mr. Opius, is that you?"
"Dr. Bailey." Hearing my voice, Opius's eyes lit up. "I came to deliver the land transfer documents to you."
I was surprised. "So fast? It's already done?"
Opius handed me a document bag.
At that moment, the Moores also got out of the car. Seeing that I knew Opius, they froze in surprise.
"Opius, you know Rosy as well?"
Opius turned around, equally stunned. The two elderly people were relatives on his mother's side, he had to address them as uncle and aunt. Moreover, they were well-known benefactors who rarely interacted with the aristocratic circle.
The two of them immediately recounted the past events, almost praising me to the skies.
After listening, Opius looked as if he had found an ally and said excitedly,
"My wife became pregnant half a month ago. If it weren't for Dr. Bailey… I don't know how many more years I would've had to wait."
The Moores looked at each other, ble to treat heart disease and even help with infertility… truly a miracle doctor.
Under their earnest gazes, I rubbed my nose, feeling even more embarrassed.
"Please don't praise me like that… I'll become arrogant."
"Arrogance is fine," Mrs. Moana Moore said as she patted my shoulder. "A girl should be proud and confident."
After that, holding the transfer documents, I returned to the villa.
"Sister-in-law, how did your outing with Wendy go?" Ronan stubbed out his cigarette and asked.
I paused to think for a moment. "It was okay."
"These are the transfer papers Opius gave you?" Ronan stared at them.
I nodded. "Yes. He just handed them over."
Ronan's eyes widened, his heart seeming unable to take any more stimulation.
I looked at him and said slowly, "Last time, I ran into Mr. Moore having a sudden heart attack on the street. I performed emergency treatment for him. After taking the medication according to the treatment plan I prescribed, his heart condition improved significantly. That's a very good start."
After saying that, I knew, from today onward, in this villa, no one would dare to look down on me again.
