Chapter 3 - Chapter III: Quill and Inkwell

The guard helped with the preparations for a new recruit in the Heaven Sect, and soon the entire sect began to whisper about how a mortal had managed to reach their gates; if anyone in the Outer World were to find out, they would become the laughingstock of the entire continent.

On his first day, after the guard's long explanation, Shoneyi Wen set out to walk through the sect to familiarize himself with his surroundings. Looking around, one could see elevated bridges that connected one mountain to another across miles. Simply walking to get to another place could feel like a trial for any mortal being. After hours of walking, the young orphan reached a bamboo edifice with decorative elements that perfectly described the Heaven Sect.

"A new slave… well, well."

An elder kindly greeted Shoneyi, raising his hands and beginning to explain the sect's ecosystem. "Firstly, we have the sect leader, but I won't delve too much into explaining his functions, as that is far off for now. Then, there are the Six Grand Masters of Heaven, who make all pertinent decisions for proper development. In third place, you can see the Inner Circle members, then the Outer Circle members, and finally, there are you, the slaves of the earth."

The separation that exists between each rank depends on the innate talent of each individual. The more Spiritual Cores one possesses, the greater the possibility of climbing, and at the same time, the higher your rank, the better rewards you will obtain from the sect. Stardust is what is used as currency; it is the fuel to continue reaching immortality.

The elder paused for a long time and proceeded to explain that the greater the power, the closer one is to immortality. He emphasized how difficult the journey was and that many perhaps better than the boy have tried and died in the attempt.

"Well, boy, it's your turn to choose what will accompany you on this journey."

The elder said, inviting the small boy into the shop right behind him. An immense sign could be read that proclaimed: "Heaven's Treasure House."

Upon entering, Shoneyi observed an incalculable number of treasures, from swords, bows, arrows, and armor, to flowers, branches, and shields. Whatever you could think of, you could surely find it there.

"Make sure to take what you truly need. Only slaves have the chance to take one thing… By the way, if you die or kill someone within the grounds of the Heaven Sect, you will be punished accordingly and will lose your item."

The old man finished commenting, then proceeded to whistle and walk away while looking at the sky. Although Shoneyi was scared after the elder's words, he knew there was no other option and decided to explore the entire Treasure House. As his eyes settled on one interesting object, his hands touched another equally important one.

After passing countless sharp swords, extraordinary spears, and shields that could protect you from any magical beast attack, it was a minuscule object that caught his attention.

Something tells me this is important, I feel the same thing as when I arrived at the Heaven Sect… Something is drawing me to this particular object, he thought.

The boy's every thought was legible as he picked up a small, triangular container with something protruding from it: a quill pen of a brilliant yellow and green color, something easy to spot even from a long distance.

"Quill and Inkwell!" The guardian of the Treasure House yelled upon seeing the small boy exit. He laughed and disappeared into the distance, taking one of the floating bridges toward another mountain.

"A quill and inkwell, this is going to change the world." A fading laugh could be heard in the distance.

In the Treasure House, as his two feet stepped outside, a loud crash was heard, and the boy, no longer so malnourished, realized it came from the doors that had just closed behind him.

The boy redirected his gaze to his newly chosen object and noted that perhaps he had made the wrong decision. He no longer saw anything special in the object, and now it was too late to turn back.
