"Aren't I supposed to usher in a new age?" Estania yelled as she began to heave.
"Why would you do this to me?" Estania said as she looked up at the sky in disbelief.
"Why would you do this to me?!" Estania boomed and the ground cracked.
Dream end
"Ahh!" Princess Marina yelled as she woke up.
Looking left to see if she woke any of her roommates, Princess Marina let out a sigh of relief when she heard her roommates sound breathing.
Getting out of bed slowly careful not to wake them up, Princess Marina slowly closed the door of her room and headed to the courtyard in the centre of the hostel. Sitting on white marble that surrounded a me mechanical tree that shone randomly, Princess Marina watched the lights of the tree as memories flooded her mind.
Flashback
Age 7
After a year of sitting and playing by herself, hope came from a merger between two packs.
"Lumiere," said Lisa, Estania's Mom, as she called her husband by the pet name she had given him.
"Are you sure it's wise to open our pack to outsiders?" Lisa asked worriedly.
"In all of Silver Reed history, no alpha has opened the pack to outsiders no matter how dire the situation was. Honouring this has kept our people in peace and harmony for centuries. Suddenly opening the pack now, might not be a wise decision." Lisa said worriedly as she stared into her husband's eyes.
"Etiole," said Richard as he called her by the pet name he had given her.
"There has been a huge drought in the west and numerous packs are migrating. Malovia has absorbed more than two and Evero has absorbed more than five. If Silver Reed does nothing and continues to turn away refugees we would practically be giving our neighbors the knife to attack us with." Richard said, hoping his wife would understand but Lisa remained unconvinced.
Thinking of a way that will please them both, Richard said " I know that you are worried about pack balance but how about this?"
"How about we put them on probation for an indefinite amount of time?" Richard asked and Lisa waited for him to elaborate.
"Telling them that we are placing them on probation for an indefinite amount of time will not only weed out anyone who would want to pretend to gain our favor but it will also expose the colors of the ones who aren't fit to be in our pack." Richard said and Lisa nodded understanding.
"Okay" Lisa said with a nod.
"Let's do things your way." Lisa said with a smile and Richard smiled as he spun her around.
"Let's have a meeting with them as quickly as possible." Richard said with glee and Lisa chuckled.
As the adults had the meeting, the children were told to play with each other under the eyes of the members of the Silver Reed pack. Sitting on her own because she knew no one would play with her, Estania was surprised when a boy with dark brown hair and hazel eyes sat down beside her.
"I have been walking for hours," the boy complained as he plopped down beside her.
"Why didn't we just run in wolf form the whole way?" the boy complained as he laid down flat and Estania looked at him in confusion.
"How long do you think the meeting will take?" the boy asked only to be met with silence.
Not hearing a sound from his usual chatty friend, the boy said "Sal! Why aren't you saying anything?" as he got up but when he looked into blue eyes instead of green the boy blinked owlishly and Estania blinked back owlishly.
"Ahh!" The boy screamed in surprise as he rolled away from her.
"Why are you screaming? I can hear from all the way over -" Sal said before looking at the situation and pausing.
"You mistook me again, didn't you?" Sal asked in disappointment.
"She has blonde hair, the same length as yours." the boy complained and Sal let out a "humph".
Smiling sheepishly the boy said "I am sorry for invading your personal space."
Smiling at the bizarre act she had just witnessed, Estania said "It was no problem."
"I am Gale." the boy said as he stretched his hand towards her.
"And I am Estania." Estania said with a beam as she shook his hand.
Flashback end
"The meeting this time was a bit too long." a girl whispered suddenly and Princess Marina got up from the white marble top and hid beneath the stairs that led to the hostel block for the second years
"Meeting?" Princess Marina thought in confusion as she made sure she wouldn't be seen.
"This late at night?" Princess Marina thought as she listened to the conversation.
"You know how he gets when he gets excited." Lysandria said and Princess Marina's eye brows furrowed even more.
"He?" Princess Marina asked in confusion.
"Well it won't be long now." said the other girl whose voice Princess Marina couldn't recognize as she climbed the stairs.
"The rising will take place in three months." the girl said and Princess Marina grew cold at the edge in her voice.
