Chapter 56 - In the night

The air between them grows slightly charged, the crackling of the fire the only sound for a moment.

"You're blushing again."

He points out bluntly, his voice still calm but with a teasing undertone.

"Shut up! It's just the heat from the fire."

Sanemi snaps, his face turning even redder as he stares intently at the flames. Giyuu chuckles softly, enjoying how flustered he can make Sanemi.

"Whatever you say. But you should know I've noticed your staring."

He leans closer, his shoulder brushing against Sanemi's again, this time deliberately.

"I wasn't staring! I was... observing your teaching methods."

He protests weakly, his heart racing at the proximity. Sanemi stiffens momentarily as Giyuu cuddles against him, but after a moment of internal conflict, he relaxes and tentatively wraps an arm around Giyuu's waist.

"This is... just to keep warm. Don't get any ideas."

He mutters, though he pulls Giyuu closer, his usual grumpy demeanor melting away slightly. Sanemi pull him onto his lap. Giyuu lets out a surprised gasp as he's suddenly manhandled onto Sanemi's lap, straddling him. His face remains composed, but there's a hint of pink on his cheeks.

"Comfortable?"

He asks dryly, looking down at Sanemi with those intense blue eyes. Sanemi looks up at Giyuu, his hands settling on Giyuu's hips to steady him. His breathing becomes slightly uneven as he tries to maintain his composure.

"Very. Now stop talking and let me enjoy this."

He says gruffly, though his thumbs start to make small circles on Giyuu's sides. Sanemi nuzzles into Giyuu's neck, his earlier bravado giving way to a softer, more affectionate side. He whispers against Giyuu's skin.

"I can't believe we're doing this on a school trip... but I've wanted to hold you like this for so long."

His hands slide up Giyuu's back, pulling him even closer. Giyuu wraps his arms around Sanemi's neck, finally letting his stoic facade drop completely. He presses a gentle kiss to Sanemi's forehead.

"Me too. I just didn't think you'd ever make a move."

He admits, his voice soft and warm. Sanemi pulls back slightly to look at Giyuu, his eyes filled with a mix of affection and playful annoyance.

"Well, someone had to be the brave one. You're too damn good at hiding your feelings."

He teases, one hand moving up to cup Giyuu's cheek. Giyuu leans into Sanemi's touch, a rare smile playing on his lips as he tilts his head slightly.

"And you're too good at pretending to hate me."

He counters, his fingers threading through Sanemi's white hair. Sanemi scoffs, though he leans into Giyuu's touch like a cat seeking attention.

"I never hated you. I just... liked getting under your skin."

He confesses, his eyes darkening with desire as he gazes at Giyuu's face.

Sanemi captures Giyuu's lips in a heated kiss, his hands roaming over Giyuu's back while keeping it appropriate for their public setting.

"Mmm... you taste like blueberries."

He murmurs between kisses, referring to the blueberry tea Giyuu often drinks. Giyuu kisses back passionately, one hand tangling in Sanemi's hair while the other grips his shoulder.

"And you taste like the coffee you stole from me this morning."

He pulls away slightly to breathe, his lips swollen and red. Sanemi chuckles, his chest rising and falling rapidly as he tries to catch his breath.

"I'll buy you another one. Maybe I should start bringing you tea instead."

He suggests, pressing soft kisses along Giyuu's jawline, careful not to leave any marks where students might see. Sanemi glances over at Shinobu, who is pretending to be asleep in her tent nearby, and lowers his voice even more.

"We should probably stop before Shinobu decides to report us for inappropriate behavior."

He says with a smirk, though he doesn't make any move to let Giyuu go just yet. Shinobu's voice suddenly cuts through the night air.

"If you two are done making out like teenagers, I'd appreciate some peace and quiet."

She says sweetly, though there's an underlying threat in her tone.

Sanemi groans and buries his face in

Giyuu's chest, muffling his response.

"Mind your own business, Kocho!"

He calls out, his ears turning red with embarrassment at being caught. Shinobu laughs softly, clearly enjoying their discomfort.

"Oh, but you're making it everyone's business. The students are starting to wake up from all the noise."

She points out, and sure enough, some of the students are stirring in their tents. Sanemi curses under his breath and reluctantly releases Giyuu, helping him stand up.

"Fine, fine. We'll behave."

He says grumpily, straightening his clothes and trying to look professional again.

Giyuu nods, fixing his hair and moving back to his own sleeping bag. He gives Sanemi a knowing look before addressing Shinobu.

"Thank you for the reminder, Shinobu. We should all get some rest for tomorrow's hike."

His voice is back to its usual calm, though there's a hint of amusement in his eyes as he glances at Sanemi. Sanemi follows Giyuu into their shared tent, zipping it up behind them with a sigh.

"She's going to be insufferable tomorrow."

He mutters, flopping down onto his sleeping bag next to Giyuu's. Giyuu lays down beside him, their shoulders touching again in the cramped tent.

"She always is. But at least we have tonight."

He whispers, turning his head to look at Sanemi with a playful glint in his eyes.

Sanemi grimaces as he shifts on the hard ground, trying to find a comfortable position.

"This is why I hate camping. The floor is always terrible."

He complains, then suddenly has an idea. Sanemi rolls onto his side and pulls Giyuu closer, arranging them so Giyuu is partially on top of him.

"Better? At least you're soft."

He teases, wrapping his arms around Giyuu's waist again. Giyuu relaxes against Sanemi, his head resting on Sanemi's chest. He can hear the steady beat of his heart.

"You're warm."

He murmurs, nuzzling into Sanemi's neck. Sanemi runs his fingers through Giyuu's hair, enjoying the intimacy despite the discomfort of the ground.

"And you're clingy. Who would have thought?"

He says with a smirk, though he tightens his hold possessively.

Giyuu pinches Sanemi's side lightly in response to the comment.

"Only because you're like a furnace. I need it in these cold mountains."

He defends himself, his breath warm against Sanemi's skin. Sanemi chuckles, the sound rumbling in his chest.

"Whatever you say, clingy teacher. Just don't drool on me."

He teases again, though he secretly loves having Giyuu so close. Giyuu pretends to consider it, then deliberately nips at Sanemi's collarbone.

"No promises."

He says with a smirk of his own, enjoying the way Sanemi tenses slightly at the unexpected bite.

Sanemi growls low in his throat, his eyes darkening with desire once more.

"You're asking for trouble, Giyuu."

He warns, his hand sliding down to grip Giyuu's hip firmly. Sanemi notices Giyuu's exhaustion and his expression softens slightly.

"Tired already? You really are a pillow princess."

He says with a mix of affection and mockery, but he stops teasing and just holds Giyuu protectively. Giyuu hums in agreement, his eyes starting to close as he fights sleep.

"Only for you... Sanemi..."

He mumbles, his body going limp against Sanemi's as he drifts off. Sanemi watches Giyuu fall asleep, a rare soft smile playing on his lips. He brushes a strand of hair from Giyuu's face.

"Sleep well, you idiot."

He whispers, then carefully adjusts their position so they're both more comfortable, still holding Giyuu close as he keeps watch. The night passes quietly, with only the sounds of the forest and Giyuu's soft breathing filling the tent. Sanemi stays awake, occasionally pressing gentle kisses to Giyuu's forehead when he thinks about their situation. Sanemi finally succumbs to sleep, his arms still securely wrapped around Giyuu. His dreams are filled with images of them together, something he would never admit to during the day.
