"She hasn't made this offer lightly. She risked her life in earning that pendant, and she has decided that you're the right person to carry it forward. Refusing now doesn't preserve modesty. It insults the intent behind the gift."
"Accept it. Thank her. And use it well."
Selene's fingers tightened slightly around the pendant.
She looked down at it. Then at Sierra. Then at Moon.
Her lips pressed together.
"I... I don't know what to say. I'm deeply grateful. Thank you."
Sierra smiled gently.
"You don't need to say much. Just take it, and grow strong enough to make me feel like I chose correctly."
Selene nodded her head slightly.
"I promise I'll make good use of it. And I'll make sure it never falls into unworthy hands."
Sierra reached out and gently touched Selene's cheek.
