Chapter 71 - Captain America, God of Thunder

Fury, of course, had to come.

At first, he thought this incident was just about a hammer that couldn't be lifted.

He didn't pay it much attention. After all, it was something that fell from outer space. If it was a little "mystical," that was normal.

If it couldn't be contained, then contain the area instead. Set up a small perimeter base on site and study it directly.

The reason he sent Captain America over was actually to let Steve adapt to the world after being thawed, while also dealing with any agents who might show up.

Even though he was the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. now, Fury knew very well that in this country there were still all kinds of forces behind the scenes. Even without counting foreign spies, the various domestic factions all did their own thing. They were not united at all.

So that hammer might attract other groups.

But what he didn't expect was that things would escalate this badly, this fast.

First, an unidentified mercenary took down an entire special ops squad alone. Next, a "magician" who claimed to be a god suddenly appeared and stabbed the Captain in the side. Then, even the mysterious Tiangong Guild that had shown up at Stark Tower not long ago appeared again.

Nick Fury suddenly realized he had only wanted to find a hammer, but it was starting to look like the opening act of a war.

If Asgard was real, then he could only deploy the secret weapon.

He just didn't know if Carol could make it in time to come collect his body…

The Quinjet was fast. Before long, Nick Fury arrived in New Mexico.

After getting off the jet, he first glanced at the extremely eye-catching Thor, but didn't go over to speak to him. Instead, he walked straight to Steve and Coulson.

"Captain, you alright?"

Even in a situation like this, Fury's voice remained steady, calm to the point that it made people sigh. As expected of the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., a man who had seen storms and blood.

"I'm fine." Steve shook his head, then heard Nick continue, "Captain, when necessary, I think we need to be a little more flexible, especially when all humanity's safety is being threatened."

As he spoke, he walked to Mjolnir, bent down, and tried to lift it.

The hammer didn't move at all.

Nothing could be read from Fury's face. He let go, then asked, "That one who claimed to be from the Tiangong Guild, what did he look like?"

"The cameras were destroyed by the one who called himself Loki," Coulson said, handing him a sheet of paper.

It was a sketch of Four Arms drawn by someone on the team. Fury took one look and immediately confirmed that the emblem on the arm was identical to the one on the flame man who had appeared in New York a few days ago.

"Another alien," Fury said, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Go back and write a detailed report. I need everything we have on him to assess the threat level."

Only then did Nick walk over to Thor. He half-squatted beside him, pointed at Thor, and spoke in a slightly arrogant tone.

"I don't know who you are, but you and your brother have already posed a threat to Earth."

If it were any other time, Fury's attitude would have made Thor furious. But right now, Thor couldn't take in anything. He raised his head, glanced at Nick Fury, and said weakly, "Midgard was originally Asgard's territory. You humiliated the King of Gods of Asgard. Next, you will only be greeted by destruction."

At this moment, Thor had no special feelings toward Earth.

In his eyes, Earth opposing Asgard was already unforgivable, not to mention they had injured Loki.

If he still had his divine power, he would be the first to charge, beating all Midgardians into submission.

Hearing that, Fury's face darkened.

He'd been an agent for so many years. What kind of crisis hadn't he seen?

So he flipped up his eyepatch, touched the scar on his eye, and said, "Maybe you think your civilization is many levels above Earth, so you can destroy it at will. But let me tell you, you're not the first alien I've seen, and you're not the first one to play at gods and claim you're supreme!"

"See this scar? You never want to know what kind of dangerous creature could leave me with an injury this terrifying!"

Thor's expression didn't change much.

Back in that human town, he had already learned how ignorant humans could be.

But right then, the sky suddenly darkened.

In the vast desert, a fierce wind began to spiral, whipping up Thor's golden hair.

Fury immediately looked up and saw endless black clouds gathering. Above the cloud layer, a massive vortex twisted and sank downward.

"Sir, something's happening!" Coulson shouted.

"I'm not blind!" Fury snapped back, irritation in his voice, while a terrible premonition rose in his chest.

Could that be that alien's army coming?

He couldn't help thinking it.

Then, inside the gigantic tornado, they saw a tall, silver iron figure.

"Is this some new Stark trick?" Coulson's already sparse hair fluttered wildly as he stared at the Destroyer, which looked extremely similar to the Iron Man armor, and asked in confusion.

But Nick Fury knew clearly that Natasha had been undercover at Stark Industries the whole time recently, and she had never seen this armor.

And the instant Thor saw the Destroyer, his expression finally changed.

"How could it be the Destroyer?"

He had thought Loki would bring, at most, a small force to attack Midgard, but Loki had actually deployed the Destroyer.

Thor couldn't help standing up. He walked toward the Destroyer and shouted, reaching out.

"Loki!"

"How can you send the Destroyer?! Are you trying to destroy Midgard?!"

At that moment, the faceplate of the Destroyer opened. Burning energy gathered at its face, and in an instant, a blazing beam bombarded Thor!

Boom!!!

The scorching blast detonated under Thor's feet, and the impact flung him away.

Far away in the Realm Eternal, controlling the armor, Loki smiled coldly.

"I'm not only going to destroy Midgard. I'm also going to destroy you, my dear brother!"

His words were vicious, but the Destroyer's beam didn't directly hit Thor. Not only that, after the impact knocked Thor unconscious, Loki didn't continue attacking him.

"Thor, you're so weak you barely even register to me." Loki shook his head. A complicated emotion flickered in his eyes, but his mouth stayed stubborn. "After I deal with those Midgardian traitors, I'll come back and execute you!"

The Destroyer's beam attack was terrifyingly powerful. With a single strike, it caused destruction far greater than missiles made by Stark.

Nick shouted at Captain America.

Steve instantly understood what he meant.

His eyes turned toward Mjolnir not far away. When he held that weapon before, he truly gained power that couldn't be matched. But in the beginning, he didn't want to take something that belonged to someone else.

Now he knew he probably had no choice.

So he clenched the shield in his left hand and walked toward the Destroyer without hesitation.

Only when he reached the Destroyer did he raise his arm.

In the next moment, Mjolnir flew to him!

If nothing unexpected happens, this book will probably go on sale next Monday. There will be a big update on the day it goes on sale, but I haven't decided how many chapters yet, because I don't have any backlog saved right now. As for the extra update rules, I'll announce them in advance when the time comes.
