Chapter 68 - Chapter 63

Hidden Mist Village — Boruto's shadow clone.

Guided by Kagura Karatachi, the group toured nearly every street and alley of Kirigakure, experiencing the village's unique customs firsthand.

As a land surrounded by water, fountains erupted skyward before blooming and cascading down like petals. The students' excitement never waned—"Waa sah!" and "Sugee!" echoed nonstop.

Only Iwabe remained unmoved.

Boruto knew why. Iwabe's father had died during the reign of the Fourth Mizukage, Yagura Karatachi.

Fine. Iwabe could be the spark. Boruto would just fan the flames and stir a little "trouble."

After a long stretch of sightseeing, Kagura called for a break. The sea breeze drifted in with a salty tang, and stalls sold mostly seafood.

While laughter and chatter filled the street, Iwabe quietly slipped away, vanishing into a narrow alley. His lone figure faded between buildings.

Boruto, mid-purchase of grilled squid, noticed immediately. He grabbed Sumire's hand and followed.

The uninformed classmates exchanged knowing looks—a secret date?—and tactfully pretended not to notice. Kagura, however, watched thoughtfully.

In the alley, Iwabe leaned against the wall. The buildings were newly renovated; little remained of the infamous "Village of Bloody Mist."

He frowned, disappointed.

Noticing Boruto and Sumire, he raised an eyebrow.

"Even if you wanted to sneak off together, did you really need a place this secluded?"

"…."

"I'm on the school trip committee," Boruto replied calmly, munching on squid. "When students split off, I check on them—with the class rep."

Iwabe paused. That… was technically unarguable.

"Whatever. I just needed some quiet," he said, turning away—

—and bumped straight into a local thug.

An afro. Thick lips. A vicious glare.

"Watch where you're going, brat!" the man barked.

"You ran into me!" Iwabe shot back.

Maybe he wanted an excuse to vent.

The thug's eyes flicked to their headbands.

"Konoha kids, huh?"

He glanced at Boruto and Sumire, still eating, sneering.

"Outsiders need to learn their place."

The threat was obvious.

Iwabe's gaze hardened. Tension spiked.

Boruto stepped between them, pushing both apart. He shook his head at Iwabe, then looked at the thug.

"We're guests. Shouldn't locals show basic respect?"

The thug slapped the squid from Boruto's hand and laughed.

"Don't step into another village if you've got no skill. You're the Hokage's kid, right?"

"Oh?" Boruto raised an eyebrow. "You know me?"

"Hah! The Crown Prince's famous even out here."

Iwabe clenched his fist—but Sumire stopped him with a subtle shake of her head.

Boruto's expression cooled. The air seemed to freeze.

"You know who I am," he said quietly, "and you still dare bark at me?"

An oppressive aura poured out, heavy and kingly.

"You worthless trash from some backwater dare mouth off in front of me?"

The thug's legs trembled. His instincts screamed danger.

"Get lost."

It sounded like a decree.

The man bolted instantly, tripping as he fled. Iwabe burst out laughing.

Boruto just stared mournfully at the squid on the ground. More than half of it—gone.

He should've picked it up and eaten it anyway.

Soon after, the group arrived at Kirigakure's Ninja Academy.

Boruto sat in the stands eating grilled octopus while below, shinobi trained—swordsmanship practiced atop water.

"As expected of the Land of Water," Denki marveled. "Even training's done on water!"

"That swordplay's amazing," another student whispered.

"A boy who can use a sword gets bonus points," Dēdē remarked.

"I'm interested," Boruto said lazily, biting into octopus, "but learning it sounds like work."

Sumire smiled. "Boruto-kun would look really cool with a sword."

At that moment, the Mizukage approached.

"If you're interested, why not try?" he said. "I have a good sparring partner."

He gestured to Kagura.

"Isn't that a bit luxurious?" someone murmured. "A future Seven Swordsman as a sparring partner?"

"Boruto, have you ever learned swordsmanship?"

Boruto finished the last bite, swallowed, and nodded.

"Alright."

"Seriously?!" Denki looked worried.

Boruto took the wooden sword—slightly curved, katana-like—twirled it once, and leapt from the stands.

He landed on the water and stood steady, pointing the blade at Kagura with a grin.

"Please give me some pointers, Master."

"That's enough," the Mizukage said.

They faced each other on the water.

Boruto stood casually, one-handed grip full of openings. Kagura, serious and tense, held her sword with both hands in perfect form.

"That's professionalism!"

"Is Boruto just throwing?"

Whispers filled the stands.

Neither moved.

Then Boruto suddenly charged—straight and simple. He leapt and swung first.

Kagura sidestepped and slashed upward.

Smack!

Wood struck wood. Ripples spread beneath Kagura's feet.

Boruto rebounded with the force, flipping back, skimming the water, then surged forward again.

Kagura's focus sharpened. The world narrowed to the duel.

Cracks echoed as blades met again and again. Their movements blurred, water exploding beneath each step.

"Who said Boruto can't use a sword?! I'll laugh at them for two and a half years!"

Unbelievable…

Soon, both reached their limits.

They separated.

Boruto still smiled, sword loose in one hand. Kagura was drenched in sweat, breathing hard.

They attacked together.

Two streaks raced across the water.

Kagura struck down with everything she had.

Boruto swept horizontally, sword light spiraling, gathering force—

Smack!

They locked.

Just as Kagura prepared to recover, Boruto suddenly released his grip.

Her blade followed through, knocking his sword spinning upward—

—and Boruto caught it again midair.

He pressed Kagura's blade to the water. Kagura yanked it back instinctively.

At that instant, Boruto's final strike descended.

Kagura froze.

Boruto's sword hovered above her head, wind screaming past her face.

"I… lost," Kagura said quietly.

Boruto smiled and sheathed his sword.

Crack.

The wooden blade snapped in two—the halted force finally released.

Thunderous applause erupted as Boruto returned to the stands like a victorious general.
