Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Unfulfilled

Oh my god, is it my past transmigrations? Did he put me into a dreamlike state? What if he finds out? I should break free from this dream or me and him are dead.

I panicked and tried to break from out of my slumber, forcing myself to wake up, but I couldn't, his ability didn't allow me.

flick!

I felt his fingers flicking my forehead softly, and I jolted awake in an instant.

"Your mind is quite resistant, sir! It took me so long to penetrate inside you."

"Phrase your words well," I said, rubbing my temple.

"And I found some really interesting things, sir!"

What did he find? Is it about my transmigrations?

"You have a vivid imagination, your mind is scarred, especially your subconscious. That's why you died so many times in your dreams!"

Phew!

I sighed quietly, glad that he didn't find out about me.

"Your life path is interesting; you will continue to suffer for the rest of your life, unfortunately!"

"What? Rest of my life? Is it safe to assume that you are a con?"

"Oh, sir! Just because of a bad life path doesn't make me a con!" he said, flailing his arms.

"And what should I do to make it better?"

"Your life is like a game of Old Maid played by an idiot! You think you have succeeded in passing the joker around, but in the end, it returns to your side again!"

"So?"

"What I am saying is this: your life will end the same way it began. Of course, that lies far ahead. Until then, your life can be set right. All you need to do is fulfill your purpose, and the divines will bless you!"

"Fulfill my purpose? I came here to find that."

"A hierophant cannot find someone's purpose! Purpose is determined by the person themselves. If I tell you your purpose is to eat an orange, you might choose to eat a melon instead! That is how it is. Even if someone declares your purpose, people will often act contrary to it. In the end, it is up to you to find your own purpose!"

"I feel like I wasted money."

"It's alright, sir, you are not the only one. Everyone who gets a bad read often feels like it, but it can't be helped. Just fulfill the purpose life throws at you, and you can end your suffering!"

"I guess I will believe in that for now."

"Shall we interpret your dream, sir? Maybe that might guide you on how to find your purpose."

"Let's begin"

"So tell me vividly about your dream!"

"I don't remember anything, I forgot most of it after waking up, but it's surreal."

"Well, how do you expect me to interpret it if I can't know what it is?" he said, cocking an eyebrow.

"I just don't remember it."

"People often forget dreams because they happen in their unconscious mind! The moment we think for ourselves, that vanishes!"

"If you can't interpret it, give me back my money for the dream interpretation."

"Oh no, no, sir! Once paid is paid, and of course I will interpret it for you," he said, taking out another pamphlet and giving it to me, the coated paper felt flimsy in my hands.

"Next time, before you go to bed, do this. It will help you retain your dreams, and once you are able to remember them, come here immediately so we can interpret them!"

"And how can I be sure you will still be here?" I said, looking back and forth at the pamphlet.

"Don't worry, sir! No diviner would abandon his role, he would be punished by Bosonifer."

Bosonifer? Is it some kind of devil, or is it their boss?

"I am taking your word for it," I said, getting up and brushing the dust off my pants.

"Don't worry, sir, I'm hoping for your return!" he exclaimed one last time, and I turned away, walking towards the exit.

Fulfilling my purpose? Is he saying that I should fulfill the purpose of each person I transmigrate into? That doesn't make sense considering I die soon enough.

I checked my watch, the time reads 8:00

"Time to start my work," I said, stretching my arms a little, and headed towards the car.

If I am able to stay alive, then I could figure it out. I just have to stay alive and act like Saveliy Andreyevich.

I walked to the car, looking around the neighborhood, the houses were all made of white stone with window slits instead of panes. The window slits weren't normal either but rather were a dark shade made of thick materials.

That's the way of living in a kingdom where the sun never sets, huh? It would take me some time to accustom myself to sleeping in sunshine.

I had to walk around the huge House of Sybils to get back to Red Brick Street since the exit was on the other side.

I reached Red Brick Street, and to my surprise, there were a few people surrounding my car. Four, to be precise. Their skin was tanned, reflecting the sunlight. They wore black pants and plain shirts, topped with black windbreakers. On their sleeves was a yellow badge, and they wore black caps bearing the same badge.

"Is that the peacekeepers?" I said as I stopped in my tracks and gulped.

Why are they here? Am I in trouble? It's alright, I am just a cab driver. Nothing's going to happen. You can do it, Alyss.

I took a step forward cautiously, and my pace gained its momentum, and an officer looked at me, the badge, now clear in view, read "Carnesson Metropolitan C12."

So they are from this city, huh?

"You must be Saveliy Andreyevich," an officer with dull red hair said, taking a step. forward

"Yes, it's me. Is something the problem?"

"You know what the problem is, Saveliy Andreyevich," an officer with pale blue hair said.

"This car, is this yours? Did you buy it or steal it?" The dull red-haired officer spoke.

"It's mine, I bought it on a loan."

"Loan, you say? Paying the dues at the right time?" An officer with dark green hair joined the convo.

"Yes, I am... What's happening?" I said, taking a step back, preparing to run if needed.

"I am Inspector Porfiry Petrovich of C12 Station. We are here with an official arrest warrant. You are to be taken into custody," the inspector said, taking a step towards me, his short, tailored mustard hair waving.

"For what? What did I do!" I exclaimed and took a step back.

"You are under arrest, Saveliy Andreyevich, for the following offenses: twenty-one counts of dine and dash, thirty-seven counts of attempted assault, and eleven counts of illicit activity. You have the right to remain silent."

"Wait, wait, what are you talking about? I didn't do that."

Just as I finished my sentence, I felt Saveliy's memories flow into my mind, and indeed, he did all of those crimes.

Click!

They handcuffed me immediately. I didn't speak a word. They led me to the patrol car, and I heard the inspector, Porfiry Petrovich, speak to the other officer.

"Transfer custody of the vehicle to the lienholder."

So that car is gone now, huh?

I didn't resist, I just complied with them because from Saveliy's memories that he committed all those crimes in hope of getting into prison.
