Chapter 6 - *Chapter 6: A Glimpse of Affection*

The days turned into weeks, and Zen's training progressed at a breakneck pace. He had grown accustomed to the academy's rigorous routine, and his skills had improved dramatically. But amidst the chaos of battle drills and strategy sessions, Zen found himself thinking more and more about Alice.

Their paths crossed frequently, and Zen couldn't help but notice the way Alice's eyes sparkled when she was focused on a task. He admired her skill and dedication, and he found himself looking forward to their encounters.

One evening, as they were leaving the training grounds, Alice fell behind, her ankle twisting on a loose stone. Zen, quick on his feet, caught her by the elbow, steadying her.

"Thanks," Alice said, her cheeks flushing slightly.

Zen smiled, feeling a warmth spread through his chest. "Anytime," he replied, his voice softer than he intended.

As they walked together, the tension between them was palpable. Zen couldn't help but steal glances at Alice, who seemed oblivious to the looks they were attracting from their fellow recruits.

"You're getting better," Alice said, breaking the silence. "You're not as clumsy as you used to be."

Zen chuckled. "Thanks, I think."

Alice smiled, and for a moment, Zen's heart skipped a beat. He felt a connection with her that he couldn't quite explain.

As they approached the dormitories, Alice slowed down, her eyes locked on Zen's. "Hey, Zen?"

"Yeah?" he replied, his voice barely above a whisper.

"Be careful, okay?" Alice said, her voice laced with concern. "There are people here who don't take kindly to...outsiders."

Zen's heart swelled with emotion. No one had ever shown him such genuine concern before. "I will," he promised, his voice filled with gratitude.

Alice nodded and turned to leave, but not before Zen caught a glimpse of a smile on her face. It was a small moment, but it filled Zen with a sense of hope and belonging.
