[ Hello everyone, my name is RiseStar, your fellow gaming activist. Today, is a special day, today, March 11th, 2045, marks the release of the most ambitious VRMMORPG in history. The game series To Eternity, began today, all the way back in the year 2027! Exactly 18 years ago! It started off as an adaptation of the novel of the same name, first released on PC, moving to consoles later. Over the span of those 18 years, eight more mainline eternity games came out, as well as To Finitude, To Beyonds and Crazy Crazy Coronel, an April Fools game that answered an uncomfortable amount of lore-related questions.
And now, with this game I am currently holding in my hands, marks the 10th entry of the mainline Eternity series, and I am so excited to play it. Studio Kurotech has been hyping this game for years! According to leaked documents, its been in development since 2037!
To commemorate the occasion, I'll be doing a marathon livestream of the game, the goal is one consecutive week, and see how far we'll reach! ]
I closed the video with a heavy click, my eyelid was almost twitching as I refreshed the ongoing delivery webpage. I'd ordered the collector's physical edition, costing me about 250,000 yen (Yen inflation is accounted for in this setting), I'd done days' worth of overtime just to afford it on beta registration day. But the stupid delivery truck has taken ages to come to my house.
The beta opened 5 days ago, every day I'd meticulously track my package, but the truck has seemingly forgotten it even exists! It just circles around the northern area of Japan, please show us the rural folk some respect! Tanzawa ain't even that far from Tokyo!
I dropped on my bed, I hadn't slept in the past 3 days, just waiting for my game to arrive, the exhaustion quickly caught up to me as I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
My dream was one of those where you walk in slow motion, I'd only seen the trailers of To Eternity-X, so my dream was limited to those areas shown off. It felt almost real, I could see myself beating up monsters, chatting with my guild members and showing off my riches in the main hub, while the newbies drooled at my possesions.
Ding Dong. My apartment's bell rang, interrupting my sleep, my legs almost acting on their own took me to the front entrance, the delivery man handed me a heavy box, I knew exactly what it was, I almost screamed like a little girl from the excitement.
I opened the box with a swiss knife I always carry around, finally, after all these days, it was in my hands. A VR headset, designed specifically for the game, two controllers, engineered to be as comfortable as possible, and a figurine of an anime girl. I genuinely don't know who that is but I'm so happy it's finally here.
As I slid the headset on my head, my hands were shaky from the sheer excitement I felt, I'd been playing the Eternity series since I was a child, I was only 7 years old when the first game released, and I played it for days, every day after school the same routine, hop on the game, eat, sleep. It has been the only RPG I've ever played, I love the series so much, I even collected the 33 novel volumes, I don't even like literature!
The game started opening before my eyes, I knew I was about to have the time of my life.
