Chapter song: A Little Death - The Neighbourhood
Xander couldn't help staring at their heads, unable to look away.
The multiple yellow-green eyes scattered across their faces were the least disturbing thing about them.
Broad and vaguely feline-shaped, they were covered in the same dark fur, but the texture around their faces was what made them all…wrong. Tight and leathery, with several jagged protrusions rising from their skulls, some resembling horns while others looked more like elongated shards of bone. They extended backward and outward in an irregular crown, giving their already grotesque silhouettes an almost insectoid appearance.
The creatures leaned forward, their necks stretched, eight eyes narrowed and those awful smiles widening.
They looked…amused. As though they'd come across something interesting. Two brand new toys they could entertain themselves with.
Play with.
They stretched their disproportionately long limbs to move in a way that wasn't human.
