"Little Amy, if you've finished eating, take the Ugly Duckling upstairs to play for a while. You can take it upstairs for dinner tonight. The small plate on the floor outside the room is its food for tonight." Mai Ge put down the bowl of rice he had just finished eating and smiled at Amy.
"Did Daddy prepare this especially for it?" Amy's eyes lit up.
"Yes." Mai Ge nodded.
"Okay!" Amy nodded happily, picked up the empty braised chicken clay pot bowl and licked it clean, then slid off the chair, picked up the Ugly Duckling from the counter and went upstairs, saying, "Ugly Duckling, it seems you won't be able to eat the super delicious braised chicken for lunch today. Let's go see what delicious food Daddy has prepared for you."
Mai Ge's gaze followed Amy all the way to the corner of the counter before he looked up at Bazel, who had just walked in, and stood up to nod and say, "You're here."
"You should know why we're here." Bazel's sharp gaze was fixed on Mai Ge's eyes, like the eyes of an eagle.
If a person can eat so calmly after killing someone, without showing the slightest fear or apprehension, there is generally only one possibility—he has killed many people.
Bazel has been a member of the Gray Temple for twenty years and has personally apprehended many murderers, but none of them have ever been as calm as Mai Ge. There was no fear, nor any kind of perverse excitement, he was as calm as if he had just done something insignificant.
Mai Ge glanced at the silver and gold embroidered "Patrol" character on Bazel's chest. The first to arrive was the patrol squad that routinely patrolled Aden Square. He looked up and stared into Bazel's eyes without flinching, nodding slightly and saying, "This happened in my restaurant. I will cooperate with the Gray Temple's investigation."
As the governing body of the Chaos City, the Gray Temple has three subordinate offices: the Patrol Office, the Garrison Office, and the Censorate Office, which are responsible for daily security, food and city defense, and criminal supervision, respectively.
The uniform is somewhat similar to that of the Imperial Guards: a gray robe and black trousers. There are no fancy flying fish patterns, only a ring formed by four comet-like magic orbs with tails connected end to end on the back, which is the symbol of the Gray Temple.
The knights wore uniform black leather boots, their chests embroidered with the department they belonged to, and a standard long sword at their waist. The mages wore grey mage robes, and there are no specific requirements regarding their magic wands.
"The deceased was a knight, so the incident level has been raised to level three. I expect you to recount the events that occurred. Every word you say will be recorded and used as evidence in court." Bazel nodded and looked at Mai Ge seriously.
"As you can see, the restaurant was closed today. My daughter, my employee, and I were eating in the restaurant with the door locked. Suddenly, someone smashed the restaurant door with a sword and magic. Then, a thug with a sword and a mage rushed into the restaurant, smashing things up and threatening the dignity and safety of my daughter and me.
After they attacked first, my daughter Amy, in self-defense, cast two rather clumsy fireballs, knocking them back from the restaurant. Then, seeing the two gang leaders by the carriage trying to ram the restaurant, she panicked and threw a fireball at them as well." Mai Ge pointed solemnly to the door and nodded. "That's the result."
"Murder is no small matter in Chaos City." Bazel's eyes narrowed slightly. Mai Ge's statement was concise, but the cause, process and result of the whole incident were explained clearly and in an organized manner. In just a few words, he removed everything from his position and put it all on the little girl.
He didn't comment on the power of the fireball, but the guy who died at the door wasn't fatally wounded by the fireball. Mai Ge refused to mention the chopstick, that explanation wouldn't hold water.
"Killing someone is no big deal." A hoarse voice came from outside the door.
"No big deal! No big deal!" a smug voice chimed in.
"Insolence! Who..." A patrolman shouted with a stern face. He turned around and saw Yulian standing at the door with a birdcage. His expression changed, and he swallowed the rest of his words. These days, Bazel had repeatedly told him not to provoke this hunchbacked old man.
"Who's being insolent?" Black Charcoal poked its head out of the birdcage, glaring at the team member with its small eyes, his tone full of provocation.
"I...I..." The team member looked at the featherless black crow and angrily gripped the long sword at his waist, but remembering the giant frost dragon flying in the sky, he ultimately did not dare to draw it.
"Knowing it was you was good enough." Black Charcoal withdrew its head with satisfaction.
"Murder is a serious matter in Chaos City, it's a rule of the Gray Temple." Bazel turned to look at Yulian and said seriously. Although he was only a level five knight, but he showed no sign of backing down. The rules of the Gray Temple were not to be questioned in Chaos City.
"You can have Roland say that to me. This old man has never liked rules in his life. If you try to bind me with rules, I will become interested in destroying them." Yulian's smile gradually became cruel, and the air seemed to suddenly turn much colder.
Bazel's expression changed slightly, but his hand was already gripping the long sword at his waist. He was not afraid of sacrifice or death in order to protect the honor of the Gray Temple and the knights.
"The Temple Master asked me to give his regards to Lord Yulian. He said that once he's finished dealing with matters at the Gray Temple, he'll definitely have a cup of tea with you." Just then, Brandley's slightly panting voice rang out as he strode in and stood between Bazel and Yulian, smiling broadly at Yulian. He waved his hand behind his back, signaling Bazel to step back.
"He probably won't be able to finish all those things this year, will he?" Yulian's smile carried a hint of sarcasm.
"There have indeed been a lot of things going on at the Gray Temple lately, but even the busiest things will eventually come to an end. Is there something you need here?" A bead of sweat slid down Brandley's cheek, his smile somewhat forced. What kind of trouble is this? He's an old man, and he's suffering like this everyday. He had originally thought that he had nothing to do today, so he followed Yulian to Aden Square for a meal, just to be on the safe side and prevent the Ice and Fire from meeting and fighting again. He didn't expect something to happen at the Restaurant Mai Mi.
Fortunately, he arrived in time. Yulian's temper was notoriously unpredictable. If he suddenly got angry, a single spell would be enough to wipe out everyone here.
"Hmm, it's nothing. I just heard someone wanted to kill my good disciple, so I came to see who has such great abilities. If he's not dead yet, I'll come and finish him off." Yulian shook his head with a smile, his smile somewhat cold, and his voice even colder, as if it could freeze one's bones.
Bazel and the others subconsciously took a step back, their expressions changing slightly. They suddenly had a feeling that if it had been Yulian who made the move earlier, the four people outside would all be dead by now.
"If someone has such intentions towards a genius like Amy, you should react this way." Brandley suddenly understood why Yulian was so angry. Monkey had only told him that someone had died at th Restaurant Mai Mi, but it turned out that the matter was related to the owner's daughter.
"I heard someone wants to kill my disciple?" Just then, another voice rang out from outside the door.
