Chapter 63 - New Life

As I roamed through the lively streets, I couldn't help but hum to myself and stop by a nearby food stall, which was run by a young kid named Lily.

"Ah! Mikael! It's you again! Please, this one's on me."

Lily tossed an apple at me, and with an angelic smile, I caught it and nodded at her.

"Has your mother been doing well?"

"Um!"

"Ever since you gave her that potion, she's started moving again. I think in a week... no, two weeks, she'll be able to walk again," Lily added.

I was glad.

So after exchanging some more pleasantries with the child, I moved on ahead and stepped inside one of the nearby inns.

I ordered some breakfast, and within just a few minutes, I began eating.

Glancing at the plain copper ring on my finger, a slight smile appeared on my face.

So long as I infused energy into this ring, I could change the color of my hair and eyes however I wanted to.

It was a lifesaver.

Aside from that, the inn was fairly empty this early in the morning.

...I was far from Aldraazan.

I was also very far from the Jaded Kingdom and the Heirloom Kingdom.

In fact, I was on a whole other continent.

The Skyward continent.

It was the smallest of the three continents, and I was now in its capital city, Lenice.

Since Amon was dead, I decided to go by a different alias.

Mikael.

A friendly golden-haired and golden-eyed priest from abroad who goes around every day healing the sick without seeking anything in return.

It wasn't the most thought-out alias... I could admit that.

But it was a fun one.

And I've been at it for nearly three weeks now.

Though, today was special for two reasons.

The first, the assassin's guild was going to open up their branch here after lunch.

I wanted to join it, because it was an organization that dealt in all sorts of things, not only people assassinations.

It was also a guild that had first-hand intel on powerful demon subjugation requests.

And since that guild wouldn't take away my freedom and I could choose whichever missions I wanted, it was perfect.

Now as for the second thing...

I heard rumors circling around about a singing fairy in the woods of the Skyward continent.

The fairy's voice charmed men and women alike, and the last thing they saw before blacking out was flowing crimson hair.

It was definitely Clementine.

It didn't take me long to pinpoint the forest where she appeared, but even after circling it, I couldn't find her.

But then I realized that according to the rumors, she only appeared when it was a full moon.

And coincidentally, tonight, there'll be a full moon.

So with those plans in mind, I finished up my breakfast and gave the waitress a nice tip.

Since I had nothing else to do at the moment, I decided to just aimlessly walk around the city and, from time to time, give someone a healing potion.

Normally, these would be a little expensive.

But I had plenty of them.

There was one quirk I realized about my body after going through the project.

My regenerative abilities increased drastically.

I was regenerating at a similar speed to a vampire.

But that also meant my blood was a little special.

By drawing my blood into a vial, I could make a quick healing potion that worked wonders.

Though, it could also be because of the Demon King of Wrath's Blood trait.

But I couldn't figure out exactly what it does.

Anyhow, within just a few hours, the city was bustling with people, since even if the continent was small, the population was still drastic.

Then again, none of these people looked at me as though I was a demon.

Instead, they looked at me as though I was their savior.

So as I waved at the people and paced around the city, I finally arrived at a library.

I could still see the librarian walking toward his desk, having just opened the library.

I arrived here right on time.

Stepping inside, I admired the scent of fresh books, and soon enough, I walked over to the librarian.

"Hello there. I noticed you just opened, so I was wondering if you were looking for any interns."

The librarian raised a brow, then snapped into character.

"Won't that interfere with your priestly duties, Mikael?"

"Oh come now. If you know me, then you know I do this part time," I replied joyfully and rested my elbow on the desk.

"In reality, I have nothing to do half of the time. People don't get sick here often because of how many forests we have. And if you look at it from another perspective, me working here would also bring a lot of customers."

Of course.

I had a nice reputation here.

And people would obviously spread rumors about me working here.

Positive rumors.

"So what do you say? It wouldn't hurt to have another pair of hands, would it?"

The librarian stared at me for a moment, then let out a sigh.

"Fine... Mikael, since you volunteered to be an intern, would you mind starting today?"

I smiled.

It was easier to get a job than expected.

And now, I had a path straight into the assassin's guild.

This was the natural path.

Become an intern, slowly get the trust of the librarian, and then receive an invite to the assassin's guild.

Of course, there was a more straightforward method of just having someone directly recruit you... but I was technically a priest.

No one's going to recruit me, and if I brought it up, they'd think there was some kind of insider in their guild.

But it's fine.

I had time, and I was also practicing my Gifts and traits in the meanwhile.

And I also had a plan for tonight, so with that in mind, I chatted with the librarian for a few more minutes and got to work, sorting through the books.

But not even an hour later, the door to the library opened.

Huh.

A customer already?

I guess my reputation really is that good, hm?

Yet the moment I stood up and glanced through the empty aisles at the person who entered, my whole body froze.
