Chapter 58 - The Project [ 4 ]

As I rubbed the area that was stabbed with the syringe, I tried my best to hold back my smile.

This was my fourth day here.

Every single day, the dosage increased, and now all my organs were basically being refined.

I could also somehow subconsciously control how fast my blood flowed.

So now my Gifts activated instantly no matter what.

And of course, my stats increased by a lot too.

Heh.

Nearly a Grade 20 at 18 years old.

If people knew, I would be like a legend.

After all, after the academy started, it took the main character until after the demons' descent to reach Grade 20.

Basically, I was much stronger.

Anyhow, I continued humming to myself until eventually Emma led me to some open space.

I saw two subjects, and they were talking amongst each other.

I tilted my head slightly.

"Where are the others?"

"They are sadly dead. They weren't able to survive the demon blood infusion," Emma replied quietly.

Hmm...

So it's only the three of us here?

"I'll be taking my leave for now, Amon. I'll be back soon."

Sure.

I ignored her and approached the two subjects, interrupting their conversation.

"Sup. How did you two get in here?"

"..."

"..."

The quiet treatment, huh.

Both of them were bald.

Brothers, maybe?

Though where's this animosity coming from?

"Nevermind then."

As I turned around, prepared to relax, I suddenly felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

I turned my head at an unnatural angle and immediately activated my Telekinesis.

Just like that, I stared at the two bald subjects.

Especially the two sharp blood spears that were only inches away from my throat.

Blood Manipulation?

There isn't a single human who has something like this.

It's a Vampire-exclusive Gift.

Unless...?

"Did your Gifts mutate?" I wondered out loud.

I eased up my Telekinesis on their throats, letting them speak.

"Tsk..."

"Our retainers told us if we killed you, we'd get powerful doses that would evolve our Gifts further."

"Why the fuck would you tell him that!?"

"Huh? Well obviously because—"

Okay.

I shut them up with my Telekinesis again.

I didn't think I'd get that much information out of them.

But I was right.

The demon blood had mutated their Gifts somehow.

Maybe if their Gifts were something like Water Manipulation, then that would be possible.

What about me?

Are my Gifts going to mutate too?

I rubbed my chin in anticipation until eventually I decided to teach these two a lesson.

With the snap of my finger, I twisted every single limb in the opposite direction, and then with one final snap, I rotated their heads around.

Their necks broke.

I released my Telekinesis, and those two instantly began using Blood Manipulation to patch themselves up.

Sighing at how shameless these two were, I decided to take my leave.

Even if Emma wasn't here to guide me, I found my way around the place and eventually arrived back inside my room.

Although I wasn't tired, I decided to sit down and meditate.

A few hours went by in the blink of an eye.

Then a day.

I realized there were fewer people in the facility.

Even the twins I had dealt with yesterday disappeared.

Did they die?

Then a second day passed...

I was a little confused.

Where's Emma?

Shouldn't I be getting my blood infusions today?

And since today was the sixth day, that meant there were only two days left of this project.

I decided to get up from my bed and check it out.

My door was locked, but even so it didn't take me a lot of effort to tear the door open.

There were no guards.

Not a single one.

No matter how far I walked, there was literally no one.

I closed my eyes for a moment and extended my Telekinesis throughout the entire facility.

To my genuine surprise, I realized that there were only two other people here aside from me.

And coincidentally, both those people were inside William's office.

Did something happen with the project?

Did it get aborted early?

"..."

[Amon Everness, proceed to Sir William's office immediately.]

The headmaster's voice.

So he's finally here.

Shaking my head at those thoughts, I navigated the hallways and eventually arrived in front of William's office.

The stench of blood was strong.

Very strong.

But regardless of that, I calmly stepped inside.

My foot sank into a puddle of blood.

Yet ahead of me, William and the headmaster sat opposite each other and calmly chatted with one another.

William quickly noticed me and gave me a quick wave.

"Heya, Amon. Sorry for the mess. We decided to take a different approach with the project."

The headmaster turned toward me and said, "You will be undergoing the death test, and afterwards, you will get your final dosage. At which point, you will finally be allowed to leave."

The death test?

"Ah, Ariston! The name of the test was supposed to be a secret." William pouted.

"But... well, since the jig is up. The death test will begin immediately."

Feeling something big coming, I immediately surrounded myself in a Telekinetic barrier.

Thousands of lightning strikes descended all at once, hitting the headmaster and William.

Not only that, dirt and mud tore through the ceiling and enveloped both William and the headmaster in an instant.

Just like that, there was once again silence.

But I didn't relax just yet, since I was sure these two hadn't died.

Yet the moment I went into the dirt and began flying upward, my body suddenly shifted.

Before I knew it, I was in a completely white room.

But I wasn't alone.

In fact, I was the furthest thing from alone.

There were hundreds of demons all around me.

They weren't weak either.

Barons, Viscounts... and to my dismay, at least ten Earl-ranked demons.

That meant a demon between Grade 30 and 40.

And soon enough, every single one of these demons' gazes locked onto me.

So this is what the previous Amon had to deal with, huh?

It was really dangerous.

And yet he survived most of the time.

He also became a lot stronger afterward.

Well...

I can't say I didn't expect something dangerous.

If anything, the project so far had been extremely tame.

I had only been getting free power-ups so far.

And I had the feeling I could escape at any moment.

But I didn't.

After all, I had already set my mind on getting through this and consuming the last dose.

So death test or not...

I was going to kill all the demons here and survive.
