Chapter 82 - Chapter 82 Hurrah! For the People of Gotham!

The next day, Gotham Police Department.

The evidence room on the second floor of the Police Department, which had not been used for a long time, was now the most valuable place in the entire Police Department.

No other reason, except that it was currently piled with one billion in cash.

Since the Wayne Family's one billion in cash moved into this evidence room, Gordon and Harvey had been taking turns guarding this room for several days.

One billion U.S. dollars! If it were lost, the sin would be immeasurable, too great to even imagine!

This made the two of them afraid to even go home, fearing any mishap with this money.

Of course, they had thought about asking Miss Wayne to deposit it first, to avoid unnecessary losses.

After all, the Gotham Police Department lacked everything except rats.

If this money were stolen by rats, that would be bad.

However, the young lady of the Wayne Family said that she wanted to use this money for fishing.

Fishing? Fishing for what? Who would use one billion for fishing for no reason?

But even though the pressure was a bit high, the things that young lady had arranged were temporarily finished, and apart from watching the boxes and boxes of money in this room, the two of them could only chat with each other to pass the time.

Just as the two were idle, "Thump, thump, thump!" a series of urgent knocks suddenly sounded, making the iron door hum.

Before Gordon and Harvey could react, a young Police officer violently pushed open the door and rushed in. His uniform was askew, a few strands of sweat slid down his cheeks, his chest heaved violently, his rapid gasps were clearly audible, and his eyes showed unconcealed anxiety.

Gordon quickly stood up, stepped forward quickly, his voice very serious: "What's wrong? What happened?"

The young Police officer leaned on his knees, gasping for air, and after a long while, squeezed out a few words: "Downtown… there's a gunfight downtown, Maroni's gang and those Tiangong Society people are fighting!"

His voice trembled, as if he was genuinely terrified by it.

Gordon's face instantly darkened, his brows furrowed, and just as he was about to ask for details, Harvey raised an eyebrow, also casually stood up, his tone full of disdain: "What does it have to do with us? Our job is to guard this money."

The young Police officer's expression turned somewhat unpleasant upon hearing this.

Gordon thought the other person felt Harvey lacked empathy and was about to say a few good words for his partner, but then he saw this young Police officer, his face red, retort: "But many people will die! Innocent citizens might get caught in this melee!"

However, his performance of serving the people and the country seemed somewhat… anxious and exasperated.

Just as Gordon also felt something was amiss, Harvey just rolled his eyes, pointed impolitely at the mountain of cash boxes behind him with his hand, and sneered: "If these things in the room are lost, even more people might die!"

The young Police officer gritted his teeth, his eyes full of unwillingness, and asked urgently: "Are you two really not going to help? Those ordinary people might be in dire straits!"

Harvey snorted coldly, a mocking smile on his lips: "What's there to help with? What if it's a ploy to lure us away? We can't…"

Before he could finish speaking, his phone suddenly vibrated in his pocket, the shrill ringtone particularly jarring in the small evidence room.

Harvey frowned as he took out his phone, slightly startled the moment he saw the caller ID.

Raising an eyebrow, he quickly glanced at Gordon and the young Police officer, then pressed the answer button.

"Hello, yes, it's me… Is that okay? Okay, don't worry. I understand… Good, good…"

He nodded repeatedly into the phone, not knowing what was said on the other end.

After hanging up, he took a deep breath, his face quickly replaced with an expression of righteous indignation, then turned and patted the young Police officer's shoulder, saying loudly: "Go, we'll go immediately! For the citizens of Gotham, we must go! We absolutely cannot let those innocent people be harmed!"

With that, he strode out the door, looking as if he was ready to face death.

Gordon stood rooted to the spot, his face full of confusion, watching Harvey's abnormal behavior, and shouted loudly: "Harvey, what about this money? If we leave, no one will guard it!"

Harvey turned back helplessly, his expression a half-smile, and spread his hands to Gordon, saying: "Old friend, the citizens of Gotham need us more right now, lives are at stake!"

With that, he raised the phone in his hand, the caller ID on the screen faintly visible.

Gordon frowned, and upon seeing the caller's name, his confusion was instantly replaced by understanding.

His expression also suddenly became serious, he nodded earnestly, and said in a deep voice: "Indeed, for the people of Gotham, we must go."

Then, he quickly walked to the young Police officer, grabbed his arm, and together with Harvey, hurried out of the evidence room.

Before leaving, Gordon, of course, did not forget to carefully lock the door.

Although that young lady said this was fishing, it couldn't appear too suspicious.

Inside the Director's office, where the lights were off, Director Luo Bu pulled back a corner of the heavy curtains, and through the glass window, his gaze, like that of a hawk, was fixed on the direction of the parking lot exit.

In the night, Police lights flashed, and Police cars roared out of the gate one after another, kicking up clouds of dust.

A barely noticeable sneer played on his lips as he tightened his grip on his phone.

The screen lit up, and a new message popped up: Gordon and Harvey have left the Police Department.

This was one of his trusted subordinates, the same young Police officer who had just informed Gordon and Harvey about the alleged gunfight.

After confirming this information, Director Luo Bu unconsciously rubbed the phone casing with his thumb, his eyes gleaming with greed and triumph.

"They've taken the bait, as expected," he muttered in a low voice, an irrepressible excitement in his tone.

He casually tucked his phone into his suit's inner pocket, adjusted his collar, and stepped out of the office.

His leather shoes clicked crisply and rhythmically on the corridor's floor tiles; now the entire Police Department was empty, with only him present.

He had pretended to sneak away after work, but in reality, he had turned back halfway, precisely to create an alibi for himself.

The familiar bar owner would vouch for him, testifying that he had been drinking in the bar all along.

Following the familiar route, Director Luo Bu walked towards the evidence room.

Although he knew no one was there, his slightly trembling fingertips betrayed his inner nervousness.

Arriving at the door of the evidence room, he vigilantly looked left and right, and after confirming no one was around, he pulled out a palm-sized white disc from his Pregnant.

The disc's surface was smooth as a mirror, with a white hourglass pattern imprinted in the center.

Director Luo Bu took a deep breath, and his finger gently tapped the hourglass symbol. In an instant, the hourglass began to rotate slowly, and the white hourglass-shaped pattern began to glow with a purple light.
