Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Mutation

Stepping into the theater, warm yellow lights, like fine golden threads, sprinkled into every corner.

Little Brucey's face was flushed with excitement; this was her first time at a theater, and her gaze was firmly attracted by the exquisite furnishings and the huge movie posters all around.

Her eyes widened; she felt like she couldn't take it all in.

Gwen's gaze also quickly scanned the poster wall, her brows slightly furrowed, a hint of anxiety in her eyes.

She was looking for a poster, a movie poster.

"the mask of zorro," or rather, Zorro's mask.

In most "Batman" works, this movie is considered the fuse for the Crime Alley tragedy.

However, among the many posters before her, this movie was conspicuously absent.

She actually knew that before she transmigrated, there must have been a movie related to Zorro.

After all, this figure was a pioneer in the history of masked vigilantes, so it was normal for there to be a movie.

But she didn't know what year this movie, or these movies, were made.

Just as Gwen was lost in thought, a muffled, childish voice came from beside her: "What are you looking for, Gwen?"

Gwen was startled by the sudden voice, a shiver running through her. She turned her head and saw Zatanna blinking her big, watery eyes, looking at her with curiosity and a mischievous smile.

Zatanna was wearing a small magician's suit, very similar to her outfit in "Young Justice League."

However, she was only three or four years old now, her cheeks chubby, exuding cuteness, and she had not yet shown the stunning beauty of her future self.

Zatanna watched Gwen's startled reaction, her eyes crinkling into slits with laughter, her rosy little face beaming with triumph.

To create this "surprise," she had secretly used magic and hidden nearby for a long time, just waiting for Gwen to pass by before jumping out.

In Zatanna's perception, Gwen had always been calm and composed, as if she had grown up on tranquilizers.

To see her flustered expression this time, she couldn't be happier.

Gwen shook her head helplessly, her usual gentle smile returning to her face as she explained, "Nothing, I was just casually looking around."

Zatanna tilted her head in confusion. She had seen Gwen's reaction clearly just now, but seeing that Gwen didn't want to say more, she didn't press further.

After all, it was possible that she was making an excuse because she was scared by herself! Hmph hmph ~ she needed to be understood.

Soon, everyone entered the theater.

The Wayne Family was led by an usher, and after Zatara and his daughter briefly bid farewell to The Wayne Family, they turned and quickly walked backstage.

As soon as Thomas sat down, many people, also dressed in elaborate clothes, gathered around him.

Their faces were wreathed in smiles as they respectfully greeted Thomas, their words full of flattery.

A white-haired old man bowed and said, "Mr. Wayne, it's an honor to see you here! Have you recently considered sponsoring…"

"Excuse me, I'm here with my family to watch magic." Thomas's face held a polite smile, but his words were not at all courteous. "Please give us some personal space, alright?"

Gwen secretly translated in her mind: "Get lost, don't bother me while I'm watching a movie with my wife and daughter! Scram!"

The old man was a bit embarrassed, but still tried to find another topic of conversation.

He looked at the other few people, and as soon as he noticed Brucey, a kind smile immediately bloomed on his face: "This little girl is truly adorable! Could she be your daughter, Mr. Wayne? She looks just like a little princess from a fairy tale!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the others, seeing that Thomas Wayne didn't say anything, immediately echoed his sentiment.

Until… "What about me?" A mature-sounding but childish voice rang out.

Everyone present looked at where the voice came from, and the scene instantly quieted. A few people exchanged glances, a hint of hesitation flashing in their eyes, before they stammered, "This little girl… is also very cute!"

Gwen, dressed in a small suit, brazenly displaying a certain "handsomeness," smiled brightly at this moment: "Really? My father doesn't like doing business with people who tell lies."

"Cough, cough, cough… Mr. Wayne, the performance is about to begin, so we won't bother you any further."

After saying this, everyone present watched the old man quickly return to his seat, and one by one, they all scurried back to their own seats.

Once the people were gone, Thomas smiled helplessly at his eldest daughter, while little Brucey looked up in confusion and asked, "Sister, why do they seem so afraid of you?"

Gwen shrugged, feigning nonchalance, and said, "I'm not sure either."

As a stirring symphony began, the stage curtain slowly opened.

Dazzling lights instantly illuminated the entire stage. Zatara, dressed in a black tuxedo, held an ancient wooden magic wand in his hand.

Zatanna, wearing a matching small dress, smiled confidently as she followed beside him.

And as the official magic show began, no one dared to bother Thomas Wayne anymore.

After all, before the show started, if you came to Thomas to discuss collaborations or similar matters, Thomas would at most just be annoyed.

But if the performance had already begun and you still ran over… then it could only be said that you wanted to go bankrupt early.

Zatara quickly walked to the front of the stage, pulled out a deck of ordinary playing cards from his pocket, and skillfully shuffled and cut them in his hands. Then, he invited an audience member onto the stage and had them freely choose a card.

After displaying the ordinary playing cards and the audience's chosen card to everyone, Zatara gently placed the card back into the deck, quickly shuffled, and then tossed them into the air.

As the cards flew in the air, he casually grabbed a handful of playing cards.

And when they were displayed, this handful of cards were uniformly the one chosen by the audience.

This type of performance continued for a while; Zatanna even performed a small magic trick—turning a handkerchief in a bottle into a handful of rose petals.

After that, the main act finally arrived.

A huge wooden cabinet was rolled onto the stage, its doors open, revealing nothing inside.

Zatanna skipped into the cabinet, and Zatara immediately closed the doors, muttering incantations.

Instantly, a bright flash of light occurred. When the light dissipated, the cabinet doors slowly opened, and Zatanna had vanished from inside, replaced by a majestic tiger. It lifted its head and let out a low roar, and the audience's gasps of surprise rose and fell.

Before the tiger could do anything, she was shoved back into the cabinet by Zatara.

When the cabinet was opened again, Zatanna reappeared, smiling, before everyone's eyes.

With the "disappearing person" magic as a transition, Zatara rested for a while.

Since Brucey herself had actually studied magic, she watched with rapt attention at this point.

Finally, the intermission arrived, when other acts performed on stage.

Brucey suddenly came to her senses, her face flushed crimson, and she whispered to her mother beside her, "I need to go to the bathroom…"

Martha was about to get up to accompany her, but Brucey patted her chest and promised, "It's okay, Mother, I can do it myself!"

After saying that, she ran off her seat and scurried towards the direction of the restroom.

A little while later, Brucey returned smoothly. Gwen casually glanced at her, then refocused her attention on her watch.
