Lagos city...the city of opportunities, the city of light, the city of glamour, the city where the alphas triumph over the weak. Yeah this was my home, i grew up here, my first cry was in this city. All the memories I've ever made was in this island, my first kiss, my first boyfriend, my first heartbreak đź’”, loosing my mom, my first success, it was all engraved in this place signed with my blood. Little did I know i was about to lose it all
My name is Aurora Starry, well I changed my surname (don't ask me why), I'm a famous journalist and mental health activist trying to find her way in the murky city of Lagos. I'm that girl that is trying to run away from her dad's shadow, if you must know my dad is the governor of Lagos state but no one knows that and I prefer to keep it that way. Martins Obafemi, the most powerful man in Lagos was my dad and our relationship was complicated. It wasn't the typical daddy-daughter relationship, more like girl-challenging-her-dad type of relationship. Ever since my mom passed away, he has being trying to control me but I wasn't going to let him have his way. So i did what every stubborn person would do, i cut off every contact with him and started a new life with a different surname (my mom's surname Chacha starry). My life was going great, i was doing what I loved and I couldn't ask for more.
"I'm a grown woman..."
I jerked out of my thoughts as I heard my Beyonce ringtone
"Who's calling me now?" I hissed and took my phone out of my purse đź‘›, i checked the caller id, it was Gabby my boss.
"Gabby what's up na?" I smiled
"No hype me now" he sounded grumpy "where are you?"
"Um I'm inside an uber" i said as i looked out of the car window
"Abeg get here quickly"
"I'm almost there, is there any problem?"
"Yeah. Remember that special guest we were going to host on our TGIF show?"
"Yeah i remember, I'm the one hosting the show" i said confused
"Well he just bailed, he's no longer coming. We've tried reaching out to him but..."
"Wait what?! Why?" I scratched my head
The uber galloped a little and i hit my head on the window
"Ouch uber driver abeg take it easy oh, you're carrying a celebrity here" i glared at the driver
"Sorry ma'am" he apologised and started driving slowly
"Good. Gabby" i continued with my call "why is he bailing out now, that show means the whole world to me and I really want to interview him"
"Well he's no longer coming, so please get your ass over here and come beg him" he was angry
"Take it easy"
"Don't tell me to take it easy, I'm about to lose a lot of money if he doesn't show up"
I sighed sadly
"I'll talk to him, don't worry"
"You better. Please get here quickly!" He shouted angrily
Oga take it easy, no be me cause your problem. I hissed mentally
"Okay" i wanted to end the call
"Oh it's true I remember" he suddenly said
Oh what again?!
"Why don't you use your influence?"
"What do you mean?"
"Tell him you're the governor's daughter.."
"Hell no" i quickly shouted
Gabby was the only one who knew about my dad
"Come on Aurora please, i can't afford to lose this guest"
"I'm not doing it, end of discussion"
"Aurora..."

He was cut off as something huge suddenly hit the car, the uber driver screamed as he tried to control the car. The car screeched and almost tumbled, i hit my head on the window again as I screamed in panic.
"Aurora are you there?" I heard Gabby's voice
"What's going on?" i was feeling dizzy
"I don't know" the poor driver shouted
I quickly ended the call and looked out of the window, other cars were stopping too. Everywhere was chaotic as many cars started crashing into buildings, our car screeched and crashed into the walls of a coffee restaurant by the road side, i quickly unbuckled my seat belt and threw myself out of the car, falling onto the ground breathing heavily. The Uber driver was still in the car, i stood up and rushed to him
"Hey get out of the car" i tried opening the doors but it wouldn't budge
"Please help, the building is about to collapse" he cried
I looked up at the building we had crashed into, it was really about to fall. I was still contemplating whether to save him or run when a huge concrete from the building started falling towards the car, I quickly leaped out of the way as it crushed the car. My life was flashing before my eyes, everywhere became quite as i watched the blood flowing from the car
"He's dead" i whispered still unsure 🫤Â
I lay still on the ground crying in shock, the world blurred a bit. I looked around as I saw other cars getting crushed, blood flowing everywhere, people crying, what the hell was happening??
"I need to get out of here" i whispered again
"People of Lagos city, your city has been captured" a voice boomed out of nowhere
Everyone stopped crying and stood still, I lay still on the ground trying to find out where the voice was coming from but to no avail
"Get ready to feel the wrath of the purple lagoon" the voice boomed again
Everyone looked confused as they looked around trying to figure out what was going on. Their answer came as gunshots from nowhere started coming from all directions
"Ahhhhhhh"
People screamed and started running in panic, some people got hit, parents abandoned their kids and ran, drivers left their cars and fled, everywhere was just pure chaos. I was still lying down on the ground trying to recover from the shock when a hand suddenly pulled me up and started running, i didn't even care to look at my saviour. I just ran for my life. The gunshots were still coming, i bent my head as we ran towards the Planet News complex building (where I worked)
"Miss, run faster please" my saviour said
"Huh" my heart was pounding heavily as I tried to run faster, but it was really hard to run when other people were pushing us trying to escape the gunshots. One fat lady pushed me and i fell hard on the ground
"C'mon get up" my saviour shouted as he grabbed my hand
I used that chance to look at him, it was my boyfriend!
"David" i gasped
"Aurora? I didn't even know it was you" he looked shocked "we don't have time, come on let's go..."
He suddenly stopped talking and stood still for a while as his eyes became dull, blood started coming out of his mouth. My face became pale as my eyes darted to the hole in his chest...they shot him
"David!!" I cried as he fell on top my body "David please don't do this to me, someone help!!"
My screams were useless as everyone continued running, the gunshots were still coming. Tears flowed as i grabbed David's face trying to breath air into him but it was really stupid cause he was already dead.
"David wake up" i cried
"Miss run!!" A man screamed as he ran past me "they're throwing bombs"
Gosh!
I quickly looked behind me to see bombs flying into buildings as they fell and crushed people. Like a possessed girl, i pushed David's body off me and ran like lightning towards my work place without looking back.
