Arata smiled lightly. "Maybe I just… like this kind of jutsu. Makes it easier to understand."
Kakashi didn't believe that for a second.
Chidori wasn't some simple lightning technique — it was an A-rank jutsu, and not an ordinary one at that.
Lightning Release was already among the hardest elements to master. When Kakashi first created Chidori at twelve, even he had struggled to understand the complex theories behind it.
Yet Arata had not only understood it after a single explanation — he had also simplified parts of the process on his own.
That level of insight wasn't "good comprehension." It was genius beyond measure.
Kakashi sighed inwardly, but the disbelief soon gave way to genuine satisfaction.
Arata was like an endless treasure vault — every time Kakashi opened the lid, he found something that astonished him even more.
"Alright," Kakashi said finally. "Watch carefully. I'll show you how to actually perform it. This jutsu is extremely dangerous — a single mistake could be fatal."
Arata nodded firmly. He knew the risks. An A-rank lightning jutsu wasn't something to take lightly.
Kakashi stepped toward a boulder by the lake, standing nearly two meters high.
The rocks here were dense and tough — perfect for demonstration.
He exhaled, his visible eye narrowing with focus. His right hand formed into a claw, and chakra began to gather at his palm.
Crackle…
Blue lightning arcs burst to life, sparking and snapping. In an instant, chakra condensed into a storm of lightning snakes, writhing violently across his arm.
The air buzzed with raw power. The arcs sizzled so fiercely that nearby leaves disintegrated into ash.
To Arata, it looked as if Kakashi stood within a cage of thunder. Lightning coiled and lashed like living serpents, their light reflecting in his single Sharingan eye.
This is… terrifying…
Arata had seen many jutsu in his time here, but nothing like this.
The crackling light illuminated the clearing like day, casting jagged shadows across the trees. Even from ten meters away, Arata's skin prickled — every hair on his body stood on end.
He swallowed hard.
So this… is an A-rank technique?
Kakashi thrust his hand forward.
"Lightning Release — Chidori!"
The sound was deafening — like a thousand birds screaming in unison.
Crack—BOOM!
A flash of light split the air. Kakashi vanished from sight, leaving only a streak of blinding blue.
A heartbeat later, the boulder exploded into fragments, shards flying everywhere as the impact echoed across the valley. Even the lake's surface rippled violently from the shockwave.
Arata stood frozen, eyes wide. He had instinctively flickered several meters back, yet he could still feel the heat of the discharge against his skin.
That power… it's insane!
He stared at the shattered remains of the boulder.
To think a twelve-year-old once created this… no wonder they called Kakashi a prodigy.
Kakashi straightened, shaking out his hand before turning to Arata with a small smile.
"You're pretty quick on your feet," he said. "So, what do you think? Need me to show it again?"
Arata still hadn't recovered from the shock. The destruction radius alone spanned dozens of meters — even the residual energy could have torn through flesh and bone.
One hit from that… and there'd be nothing left to bury.
As Arata regained his composure, he jumped down from a nearby tree branch — he had instinctively relocated during the attack to avoid the blast zone.
Standing before the pulverized boulder, he exhaled slowly.
"This technique's power is terrifying," he said honestly.
Kakashi nodded. "That's why it's so chakra-intensive. A regular chūnin would burn through everything they have just using it once."
Arata nodded in agreement.
"So," Kakashi asked, "what do you think? Do you feel anything from watching it?"
Arata closed his eyes. For a few moments, there was only the sound of the waterfall. Then, when he opened them again, there was a spark of light within his gaze.
"I think…" Arata murmured, "…I know how it works."
Kakashi blinked, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "Of course you do," he said wryly. "At this point, I shouldn't even be surprised."
"Alright," he continued, stepping aside to lean against a tree. "Train here. I'll watch from the side. Ask if you need help."
Arata walked to another boulder near the water's edge.
Kakashi's eye followed him intently. He wanted to see just how far Arata could go tonight.
Arata himself wasn't sure if he could perform it perfectly yet, but the moment he began focusing chakra into his right hand, instinct kicked in — a strange, natural familiarity as if he'd done this a thousand times before.
Chakra surged through his arm.
And then—
CRACK!
A burst of golden light erupted from his palm.
Dozens of thick lightning arcs exploded outward, each as wide as a grown man's arm — far thicker than Kakashi's earlier display.
Kakashi's Chidori had been bright blue, with lightning no thicker than chopsticks.
Arata's, however, glowed in radiant gold, its power pulsing like the heartbeat of a storm god.
Kakashi's eye widened in disbelief.
"This—! What is this chakra…?"
Arata's energy wasn't ordinary. A normal ninja's chakra, when condensed, always manifested as blue.
But Arata's shimmered with molten gold, transforming his Chidori into something transcendent — sacred and lethal all at once.
And instead of the high-pitched shriek of a thousand birds, his technique emitted only a low, rumbling hum — deep, resonant, and terrifyingly alive.
The golden lightning writhed around him like sentient serpents, slithering through the air with predatory grace.
Kakashi could only stare, speechless.
He had created the Chidori, but what Arata had summoned… wasn't his jutsu anymore.
It was something far beyond.
