Chapter 402 - A Clinic Begins, and Fame Takes Root

For the online shop's clinic feature, Ash had already instructed Rotom to contact the company that previously designed the website interface. They had long since completed the necessary support plugins.

Once the plugin was installed and activated, the Pokémon Clinic section would officially appear on the shop—allowing Ash to begin accepting patients.

However, to prevent an overwhelming influx of injured or sick Pokémon all at once, Ash temporarily restricted consultations to trainers within the Kanto region.

At the same time, to guard against malicious individuals trying to ruin his reputation, any Pokémon sent in for treatment had to be accompanied by a preliminary diagnosis issued by a Nurse Joy from a Pokémon Center.

This ensured that no one would send in Pokémon that were already critically injured, on the verge of death, or suffering from incurable conditions.

It prevented situations where, before he could even begin treatment, the Pokémon's condition would suddenly worsen—or worse, die under his care.

In short, Ash was minimizing the risks of running a medical practice as much as possible.

Although people in the Pokémon world were generally more sincere and kind compared to his previous life, the harsh realities of doctor-patient conflicts he had once witnessed served as a warning—trouble that could be avoided should always be avoided.

There were three main reasons why Ash chose to open a free clinic to treat injured Pokémon.

First, by treating Pokémon, he could cultivate and strengthen his Viridian Power.

Second, he genuinely loved Pokémon and wanted to give back—to both them and this world he had come to cherish.

Third, he wanted to build his reputation.

As the protagonist of this world—just like in the original Pokémon anime—he had no intention of remaining an unknown nobody like his former self.

Public opinion mattered.

If he became widely recognized, respected, and supported by the masses, then the possibility of being abandoned by the world's will—of losing his protagonist's fortune and having it transferred to someone like Goh—would never happen.

Of course, there were many reasons.

But at the core of it all, Ash simply wanted to do something that made him happy.

"Oh, right, Ash—Viridian City Pokémon Center just called. They said that when you receive your medical license and Pokémon Physician certification at noon today, TV reporters will be there to interview you."

"They asked you to prepare in advance," Rotom typed out from the computer at home.

"An interview? Got it—I understand."

Ash acknowledged the message without hesitation.

He didn't mind interviews at all—if anything, he welcomed them.

Back at Professor Oak's Pokémon Summer Camp, he had used a Goldenrod TV interview to introduce himself to the people of Kanto and build early recognition.

Later, when his skill shop launched successfully, the advertisement he gave during another televised interview played a huge role.

Even the incident with Goh—being expelled by Professor Oak and punished by the League—was, in part, influenced by media exposure.

Goh had spread malicious rumors about Ash and abused the Magikarp he received during camp. The punishment he received was entirely deserved.

But the widespread attention from the televised broadcast—and the pressure of public opinion—were undeniably crucial.

If the incident hadn't been broadcast and stirred public outrage, it likely wouldn't have escalated to that level of consequence.

Now, with his Third Charity Clinic about to open, having TV reporters come to cover the event would only make things smoother.

All in all—

This was a good thing.

"Though… this afternoon is going to be busy," Ash muttered with a wry smile, shaking his head.

Ever since graduating from the Pokémon Summer Camp and officially becoming a trainer with his first Pokémon, he hadn't had a single day of rest.

He had to supervise and guide his Pokémon's training.

Study Pokémon breeding and battle command theory.

Manage his skill shop.

Train under Giovanni at the Viridian Gym.

Intern at the Viridian City Pokémon Center.

And participate in battles at the city arena.

To outsiders, he was a prodigy—someone who had achieved incredible success at a young age.

But no one saw the effort behind it all.

Fortunately, none of this was forced upon him.

Everything he was doing—he chose to do.

And he loved doing it.

Though it was exhausting and demanding, it was also fulfilling, rewarding, and deeply satisfying.

By the riverbank, Ash sat on a small stool, watching over his Pokémon as they trained while simultaneously preparing for the afternoon's clinic launch and TV interview.

Time passed, second by second.

The sun climbed higher in the sky, its warmth growing stronger.

Beside the gravel-covered riverbank, a winding stream flowed gently, its clear waters shimmering under the sunlight.

In the distance, at the base of the mountains, countless small streams converged into a river. The river followed the terrain—crossing valleys, cutting through plains, flowing past Pallet Town, and eventually emptying into the vast ocean.

The sunlight grew hotter and brighter.

It wasn't until Green and Gary returned from the wild grasslands and called out to him that Ash realized—

It was already noon.

"Pikachu, Greninja, Pidgeot, Fearow, Valor, Lumina—morning training is over. Time to head back and have lunch!"

Ash called out, channeling his Aura to project his voice to his Pokémon.

The team quickly regrouped.

After sending them home first, Ash made his way toward Dashiwan Valley and Stone Bridge, where groups of wild Pokémon had gathered.

He spent some time treating them.

Dashiwan Valley: 14 Pokémon

Stone Bridge: 11 Pokémon

Viridian Power LV.42 → LV.43

EXP: -203

From yesterday evening to this morning's training—and all the way through today—Ash had treated dozens upon dozens of injured wild Pokémon.

Only now had his Viridian Power finally leveled up.

"It really wasn't easy…" Ash muttered inwardly, though he understood why.

According to Pokémon strength classifications, anything above Level 40 was already considered Elite Tier.

Beyond that lay Gym-Class—a realm of power far from ordinary.

Naturally, as levels increased, the experience required to level up would also grow.

That was precisely why he was willing to endure the effort and exhaustion to open the Third Charity Clinic.

Still, even with the increasing difficulty, the growth speed of his Viridian Power was already incredibly fast.

After all, he had first discovered the method to cultivate Aura.

With his unparalleled psychic talent, and later forming a Dream Law Imprint with Mew during the summer camp—becoming a "Contracted One"—his Aura cultivation speed had increased even further.

And yet—

His Aura Power was only at LV.21.

Compared to that, his Viridian Power—already at LV.43—was more than double.

It was clear just how extraordinary its growth truly was.
