As the matters piling up around him grew more numerous by the day, Ash Ketchum realized that his time was simply no longer enough.

The only thing that gave him some comfort—and something to look forward to—was the fact that the training and coursework at the Viridian City Pokémon Center wouldn't last too long.

It was late August, the air crisp and refreshing.

The sky was a deep, vivid blue, layered with thin clouds drifting lazily across the horizon.

After consulting Professor Oak and settling the clinic-related matters, Ash followed the dirt road out of Pallet Town and arrived at the gravel riverbank where his Pokémon were training.

"Ash, is the clinic situation settled?"

"What did my grandpa say?" Gary Oak asked while handing out Oran Berries to replenish the Pokémon's stamina.

"It's basically sorted out," Ash replied.

"When I have time, I'll head to the Viridian City Pokémon Center to run tests on the effects of Healing Art, then do some basic medical theory and injury-treatment training."

"After that, I can officially set up the clinic. The Joy Family will issue me a medical practice qualification on behalf of the League Medical Authority, and Pokémon Centers under their jurisdiction will also help promote my online clinic."

"That pretty much reduces the risk I have to bear to the absolute minimum."

Ash was clearly satisfied with how things had turned out.

"With the Joy Family backing you and the League Medical Authority issuing official certification, no one will doubt the clinic's legitimacy," Gary nodded.

"That'll also earn patients' trust."

"All in all, it's definitely a good thing. But, Ash—looks like you're about to get really busy."

"You're telling me," Ash said with a wry smile.

"But that's the price you have to pay to become stronger."

After some idle chatter and a short break for the Pokémon, the two Trainers soon resumed training.

"Pikachu, continue training Iron Tail."

"Frogadier, Toxic Spikes and Spikes don't consume much stamina—this morning, I want both moves pushed to Proficient."

"Pidgeotto, Double Team is a core part of your move framework, so take it seriously. Your goal this morning is to raise it to Proficient."

"Lumina, you only know one move for now. Whether it's this morning or later—once you bring Water Gun up to Proficient, I'll teach you a new move."

Ash quickly laid out the training assignments.

Under normal circumstances, Pokémon skill training required complete focus—

carefully executing a move, then repeatedly reflecting on every detail of its activation.

How to cast it more smoothly.

How to save effort.

How to adjust, refine, comprehend, and advance…

Typically, learning a move was a slow, complicated, and inefficient process that demanded long-term accumulation.

But the Skill Proficiency Module of the Ascension Trainer System was like a supercomputer.

As long as a Pokémon executed a move correctly and completely, the system would handle the "comprehension" part for them.

It was like feeding raw materials into a machine and receiving finished products in return—

the difference between primitive handcrafting and industrial automation.

One was slow and inefficient.

The other saved time, effort, and mental load—while being absurdly efficient.

As Pokémon repeatedly used their moves, they naturally gained insight into the move's mechanics.

Each subsequent use became smoother, more controlled, and more fluid.

Novice (1/100)

Skilled (1/500)

Proficient (1/1000)

Mastered (1/5000)

Grandmaster (1/10000)

That was why, in just a little over a month, while Gary's Wartortle, Eevee, and Magikarp were still rough and unpolished in their move usage—

Ash's Pokémon had already pushed their core moves to Mastered level.

Basic moves like Thunder Shock, Water Shuriken, and Hurricane could already be fired instantly,

sprayed out like a magical machine gun—treating skills as normal attacks.

A Pokémon's combat power mainly depended on three things:

physical attributes, level, and moves.

With the Ascension Trainer System, Ash barely needed to worry about leveling or skill proficiency.

All he had to focus on was strengthening his Pokémon's fundamental physical conditioning.

"Pika~!"

"Froga~!"

"Pidge~!"

"Glu~!"

The four Pokémon quickly moved to carry out their training—especially Pikachu.

As Ash's very first Pokémon, Pikachu had lagged behind Frogadier and Pidgeotto for quite some time.

After evolving and catching up in level, plus benefiting from Electric-type advantages against Water- and Flying-types, Pikachu had finally closed the gap.

Yesterday afternoon, after harvesting a massive wave of experience from the Spearow flock, Pikachu's level shot up to LV.35, instantly surpassing both Frogadier and Pidgeotto.

As Ash's starter Pokémon, Pikachu had finally reclaimed its role as the team's big guyy—

and with the strongest overall power, its No.1 position was now well deserved.

That said, the level gap was only one and two levels respectively.

To firmly secure its top spot, Pikachu had been training like crazy.

Of course, Pidgeotto and Frogadier weren't about to fall behind either—they trained just as hard, fiercely chasing after Pikachu.

Wish, Aqua Ring, Roost—

all three Pokémon had mastered recovery moves, pushing themselves relentlessly from morning to night.

Ash noticed this clearly—but he didn't stop them.

A team needed this kind of healthy competition.

"Valor, Spearow—you two train together."

"Spearow, control your strength and use Peck on Valor."

"Valor, endure Spearow's attacks and use them to train your physical defense."

The two Pokémon nodded seriously at Ash's instructions and immediately began training.

Magikarp swam into the river, floating at the surface, while Spearow skimmed the water like a dragonfly—

repeatedly pecking at Magikarp's body, its golden, jade-like scales ringing softly with each strike.
