Chapter 46 - Losing Control

[Celeste Luminaris]:

"As a mystic cultivator and a practitioner of magic, whether you are a witch, a warlock, druid, wizard, sorceress or whatever else kind of practitioner you identify yourself as, there are only two forms of mana we mortals can use to fuel our magicks," said Lady Lipton, as she wrote on the chalkboard. "Elemental mana and Internal mana. Elemental mana is the natural mana found in nature or just in the air that we breathe. This mana type is typically used and manipulated by practitioners and powerful cultivators with an infinity to it. Ironically, it is also the mana we cultivators use to cultivate.

"Then, there is Internal Mana, which is the mana that cultivators use to perform skills and techniques and amp up their physical prowess. Healers use this type of mana to perform miraculous feats of healing and magic users use this mana to power their magicks.

"Are there any questions so far?"

Lady Lipton was a talented witch at the late stages of the Demigod rank, specifically high-level Demigod rank. She had a neatly groomed afro, coffee brown skin and soulful brown eyes. She wore a black short dress that reached the knees, a white, long sleeve blouse and a navy blue, neatly ironed cardigan. She had on a pair of navy blue high heels and a pair of obsidian black magic circle earrings. She was a very astute woman, stern in certain instances but fair nonetheless. She wore a pair of circular glasses that gave her aura a much more intimidating presence. As far as respect goes, she was one of the most respected women on-campus.

A hand was raised.

"Yes, Jane Ann?" Lady Lipton acknowledged a female student.

"So can just anyone manipulate Elemental Mana or is that just an ability unique to practitioners?" asked Jane Ann.

"Cultivators absorb Elemental Mana but cannot manipulate it while practitioners can manipulate Elemental man in addition to being able to absorb it to cultivate," Marxes said, answering Jane Ann before the instructor could.

"Precisely. Well said, mister Ilmari," Lipton appraised. "That is correct, Mister Ilmari, though I suppose we should expect you to be knowledgeable on such topics despite you not being mystic considering… That said, can anyone tell me what counter nature has on practitioners to balance out this advantage we have over cultivators?"

"Naturally weaker bodies and slower cultivation speeds," Celeste answered aloud.

"That is correct, Miss Luminaris, yes," Lady Lipton applauded. "Nature always finds a way to keep the balance. As practitioners, we are all Nature's servants. You must always remember this."

"What if one had a bloodline advantage or divine/primordial parentage?" Asked a voice in the back, causing Celete to turn to and see one of her brother's goons speaking, looking dead at her while doing so. "What do we call these? Abominations? Atrocities?"

Celeste, knowing the boy was trying to elicit a response from her, gritted her teeth. Her fist balled, a shadow covering her eyes.

She knows that, as far as being a Primordial Spawn went, she was better off than Corven when they compared their instances. Everyone loves light and day and health — Everyone benefits from Hemera's gifts to the world. As her daughter, it put Celeste in a much better position than Corven, whose father was the most mysterious of Primordials and the Sovereign and personification of darkness itself. People often treated Celeste much better than other Primordial Spawns for this.

But the fact still remains that she was still a primordial Spawn. This did not sit well with many students/people and even some instructors. Prejudice against Primordial Spawns was always something that occurred, even when one had a parent who was the Primordial of a helpful element or miracles. This was a fact — A sad, sad fact that was Celeste's reality.

'But to be so blatantly hostile…,' Celeste thought.

"Are we supposed to sympathize with them? They have abilities no one else has," the boy continued on his ranting. "Why should we accept such creatures as our equal? The only good thing they can do is cause blasphemy."

Some of the other students were nodding along with his words. Lady Lipton was perplexed. She glanced at a glaring Celeste, then glanced at the student who was speaking before it clicked.

"Mister Moore, stop that," Lady Lipton said, obviously sensing the usage of empathic powers being used to rouse students. "Now, let us continue with the less—."

But Jake Moore was not finished.

"What has the primordial Spawn done for you, instructor, that you'd side with her?" Jake accused the faintest of sneers on his face when he noticed a few handful of students were suspicious, vigorously nodding their disapproval. "See, the 'Princess' of House Luminaris is nothing but a crook and a disgusting primordial Spawn — She has our instructor under pay. Why is she here again? To cause discourse in our classes? Oh, right, that's all she's good for. Ain't it? Fucking bitch!"

That was the final straw for Celeste. She stood up, all light in the room began to blink in and out of existence, converging towards Celeste, who only saw murderous rage. She immediately made a sword of light, reading wo Jake Moore, who was basically cackling in mockery as he looked at Celeste in a sick glee and disgust.

At that moment, it did not matter that Jake was taunting her. It didn't matter that she was a princess or that she shouldn't do what she was planning.

No, all that mattered was vengeance. She wanted to kill Jake Moore. She 'needed' to watch him bleed, begging for death. And she had every intention of doing so. She would burn his skin off with the brightest colors of the color spectrum, searing it with UV radiation and leave him for dead. She wanted to see just how much light was too much for the mortal retina to take before combusting into ocular juices.

In her tunnel vision, she failed to notice marxes trying to hold her back, and before she realized what she had done, Marxes was sent flying into the wall with a BOOM!

"My gods! Miss Luminaris! What have you done?!" Lady Lipton exclaimed and it was that exclamation that knocked Celeste out of her murderous rage-induced trance.

Celeste turned around to see Marxes Ilmari, with a sharp stone sticking out of his gut, his head having a deep, bleeding gush of crimson dripping down his face. It didn't stop there, either. There was a pole, likely a pipe, sticking out of his abdomen like a sword would a wound.

"Oh gods…," Celeste was trembling, in shock. "What have I done…?"

"Someone call a healer! Quickly!" Lady Lipton said, urging one of her students to run for the medical bay. "Miss Luminaris! Miss Lumin—? Where did Celeste Luminaris go? Damn it!"

Celeste had vanished.

In all the chaos, the horrified gazes and the worried mutterings, Celeste had vanished from the room entirely. What's more, neither she nor anyone else seemed to notice that Marxes had a strange glow in his eyes. They were their typical orange, but vibrant with a technological surface to it, almost as if he were a computer…
