Chapter 14 - 24/7 surveillance on Peter Parker

A little over an hour later, they were back in the metropolis of New York City.

"Peter, given my oversight this time, I've decided to have Jarvis upgrade your security monitoring protocol."

"No need, Mr. Stark, you make me feel uncomfortable. Spiderman isn't a child."

Tony didn't answer, just shook his head. "Jarvis, upgrade Peter's security monitoring protocol to the highest level, especially the alert system for mutant-related activities. It must be set as a priority."

"Already done, boss," the car's AI calmly replied.

Peter frowned, "Mr. Stark, I really don't need—"

"This is my responsibility, kid," Tony's tone was unyielding, "Since May entrusted you to me... uh, I mean, since you chose to stand with me, I have a responsibility to ensure your safety. Mutant affairs are far more complicated than you imagine, Peter."

"Alright, since you're bringing up Aunt May, what else can I say."

The sports car drove into the streets of Manhattan, finally stopping in front of a four-story building in the northern slums.

Before getting out of the car, Peter thanked him, "Thank you for helping me today, Mr. Stark, even if the method was a bit exaggerated."

The last sentence he said with a humorous laugh.

"Peter, I don't care if you want to live by your own abilities, or if you live in the slums."

Tony took off his sunglasses, looked at Peter, and said seriously in an elder's tone, "Remember, kid, anytime you get into trouble, and I mean any trouble, contact me immediately. Don't face it alone, understand?"

Peter nodded, closed the car door, and watched the Audi sports car disappear around the corner before walking up to the fourth floor.

Back in his cramped but familiar rented room, Peter finally had a chance to calm down and carefully examine the incredible changes happening within his body.

He leaned against the creaking iron-frame bed, closed his eyes, and focused his attention on every subtle sensation in his body.

The increase in strength was obvious—his muscle fibers seemed to have been rewoven, each contraction containing far more energy than before.

But even more surprising was that the abilities originating from Magneto and Professor X were quietly growing within him, like a dormant seed suddenly beginning to sprout and branch out.

"This feeling... it's truly incredible," Peter murmured, extending his palm and staring intently at it.

Initially at the Alkali Research Facility, he had instinctively snatched weapons from soldiers' hands; at that time, this power felt like a strange intruder, rampaging through his nervous system.

But now, this feeling had become docile and familiar, as if it were an innate part of him.

Peter concentrated, staring at a pencil on the table. With a slight shift of his will, the pencil gently trembled and floated up, slowly rotating in the dim room.

This wasn't simple electromagnetic manipulation, he realized; this was a more fundamental, more primitive force—telekinesis, pure willpower transforming into physical reality.

"Just like Eric could initially only control two coins," Peter recalled Magneto's early experiences recorded in the X-Men archives, "Over time, even the comic book version of him could manipulate the Earth's entire magnetic field."

This association made him both excited and apprehensive. If Magneto's power could grow to that extent, what potential did this power in his hands hold?

Peter walked to the center of the room and took a deep breath. He closed his eyes, concentrated, and tried to envelop his entire body with telekinesis.

A strange lift surged from beneath his feet, and his shoes slowly left the ground. An inch, two inches... he was floating!

Although he could only get a few feet off the ground and wobbled like a baby learning to walk, it was indeed happening.

"This is amazing! I can feel myself getting stronger every moment." Peter couldn't help but cheer, but accidentally lost his balance and nearly hit the ceiling. Fortunately, his Spider-Sense allowed him to adjust his posture in time, landing lightly back on the ground.

This ability would undoubtedly greatly enhance his mobility as Spiderman. Imagine, in situations where changing into his suit isn't convenient, he could directly use telekinesis to stop a robbery.

Or when encountering airborne attacks from Vulture or Green Goblin again, he wouldn't fall to the ground on his back but would be able to land safely from a height.

More importantly, this power seemed to have a wonderful resonance with his Spider-Sense, making his senses even sharper.

Peter decided to test another newly discovered ability from the research facility. He lay on the bed, closed his eyes, then slowly opened them, repeating the process.

Finally, the world completely changed before his eyes.

"Woah," he gasped, "This is like an automatic skylight, directly to the mysteries of the universe."

His vision pierced through the surface of matter, entering the microscopic kingdom.

Water molecules floating in the air rotated and collided like tiny diamonds, oxygen molecules danced an elegant waltz in pairs, and nitrogen molecules appeared more stable, maintaining just the right distance.

All of this formed a dynamic, vibrant microscopic tableau, clearer and more vivid than any image under a microscope.

Peter had a sudden idea and tried to touch a wandering water molecule with his telekinesis.

He concentrated, feeling that wondrous power extending from the depths of his brain, like an invisible hand reaching into the microscopic world.

Surprisingly, that water molecule actually responded to his call, slightly altering its trajectory.

"Unbelievable!" Peter sprang up from the bed with a carp-like flip, his eyes wide with excitement, "Since I can see it, I can touch it, which means my telekinesis can now affect the molecular level!"

Next, Peter seemed completely immersed in the joy of exploring his new abilities. He was like a child with a new toy, tirelessly testing the limits of his telekinesis.

He guided oxygen molecules to form tiny whirlwinds, made water molecules gather into floating droplets, and even attempted to reorganize the structure of carbon dioxide molecules. Each attempt, although some failed, also had its successes.

As a genius with profound accomplishments in both biology and physics, Peter understood the terrifying potential of this ability better than anyone.

Setting aside those sci-fi novel-like applications, purely in terms of combat ability, molecular-level manipulation already placed him among the top ranks of the Mutant World.

His thoughts drifted to those Omega-level Mutants who could manipulate molecules.

Phoenix Jean Grey could decompose matter into nothingness; Apocalypse could reorganize his own cells to achieve immortality; Iceman Bobby could stop all molecular motion to freeze everything. These beings were all monsters capable of taking on the entire Avengers.

"Well, I didn't expect to become a unit of combat power myself now," Peter chuckled self-deprecatingly, "just like that often-beaten Galactus."

After the experiment concluded, Peter's gaze fell on his Spiderman suit in the corner. It had several tears from being hit by a Rocket, and he had returned to change into a new suit.

He concentrated, using telekinesis to guide the surrounding molecules to fill the suit's fiber structure. Surprisingly, the damaged areas self-repaired at a visible rate, quickly becoming as good as new.

"It seems a nano-suit like Ironman's isn't necessary anymore," Peter whistled, "As long as my abilities continue to grow, I can change the molecular structure of my clothing with a thought anytime."

This meant he could not only change clothes instantly but might even be able to alter his appearance like Mystique, or blend into the environment like a chameleon. This possibility was both exciting and unsettling.

"The potential of molecular manipulation is terrifying," Peter muttered to himself, "Fortunately, I'm not a bad guy, otherwise S.H.I.E.L.D. would definitely list me as the most dangerous person in New York City."

In further testing, Peter discovered another pattern.

His molecular vision range was directly related to the influence range of his telekinesis.

Currently, his telekinesis could cover a radius of about two hundred meters, and correspondingly, his molecular vision could only penetrate objects within that range.

But as his abilities became more proficient, this range would undoubtedly continue to expand.

A startling thought suddenly struck Peter: if the telekinetic range could continue to grow, would his Spider-Sense also enhance accordingly? Imagine a sensory range expanding to one kilometer, ten kilometers, or even further... then he wouldn't just be the friendly neighborhood Spiderman, but a Guardian capable of monitoring the entire city.

Thinking of this, Peter's mood became complicated. Was gaining such powerful abilities a blessing or a curse?

The good news was that he seemed to have more capital to confront future crises, or rather, the Inheritor Family. Those interdimensional vampires who enjoyed preying on various Spidermans in the multiverse would eventually get a taste of their own medicine whenever they appeared.

The bad news was that he had become a mutant, which would undoubtedly make the future course of events unpredictable.

AN : The Inheritors are a family of near-immortal beings introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 3) #9 (2014) during the Spider-Verse storyline by Dan Slott.

They originate from another dimension (Earth-001) and sustain themselves by feeding on the life force of Totems—individuals connected to the "Great Web of Life and Destiny." This mystical web binds together every Spider-being across all realities.

Their most notable members include:

Morlun – The most infamous and dangerous of the Inheritors. He's fought and nearly killed Earth-616 Spider-Man multiple times (The Other, Spider-Verse arcs).

Karn (The Master Weaver) – Initially hunted other Totems but eventually rebelled against his family and helped the Spider-Army.

Solus – The patriarch, essentially the Inheritor king.

Verna, Jennix, Daemos, Bora, Brix, etc.—other family members, each with distinct personalities and brutal hunting styles.
