Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

I have never been the most athletic person or the smartest person among my peers. I am always just above average. Not the best of the group but not the last one either.

Right now in this moment I wish I was SOMETHING because it is going to take a miracle for me to make it out alive from this hot mess.

The grey wolf stalked closer to me, teeth still bared and cautious. I was frozen with ice cold dread spreading through my body when the realization hit.

I'm a dead bitch.

Forget the fact that this wolf is humongous and can probably snap my neck with a single bite; I can't outrun it even if I try and any movement I make now will just agitate it.

So I just give up all plans of escape and stare at my impending doom when I see a spark of something else in the wolf's gold eyes. Intelligence? I going crazy too. But there was something else going on, the way it was gauging my posture and any movement I made didn't seem like a predator eyeing it's prey or a wary wild animal. It almost seemed like it was waiting for me to make a move but realised I wasn't prompting it to step forward.

As I watched this wolf slowly get closer to me it felt like the air around us was changing somehow. This wolf stopped growling as it got closer and closer and once it was a few metres away from me I could see it visibly soften it's features.

The grey wolf stood with its snout breathing down at me when I realized that for whatever the reason it wasn't gonna kill me. At least not yet.

We stood there with this massive wolf just sniffing my head and face while the adrenaline pumping in my blood finally gave out and I stumbled to ground on my knees.

The wolf, startled by the sudden movement took a step back before moving towards me again and nudging my shoulder and head with its snout. Was it checking on me? How sweet. How terrifying.

I don't know why but this wolf seemed a lot more cute up close. I guess you don't think about the cuteness of an animal when you think it's gonna kill you. I am so confused. What is happening now? I have no idea where I am and what I'm even doing her and now I have a giant wolf in front of that's seems more curious about me than hungry for my blood. Don't get me wrong, there is no one more thankful that this creature isn't tearing me limb by limb but why? Can wolves even get this big? Is this one part of a species not known yet? Did I just discover a new species of gigantic wolves? Does that mean I get to name these species?

I'm lost in my own world when I feel a nudge on my shoulder. Looking up I can see it almost trying to get me to focus on it again. Then I see it again. The same spark of intelligence I saw before. Like he was gonna start talking to me right then and there or like he was wondering if he just discovered a new species of monkeys and whether he would get to name them.

The wolf seemed to drop it's gaurd sitting down next me and slowly pushing it's head into my shoulder. I reach my hand out terrified it would snap at my hand but it pushed it's head into my stretched out hand. My heart skipped a beat coming in contact with the coarse, smooth fur of this majestic creature that I was sure going to kill me some time ago.

A few minutes of this petting and I start realising this wasn't so bad after all. I mean I always wanted to go exploring in the wild and pet wolves so I guess I just ended up checking a few boxes from my bucket list.

I don't know when this wolf will decide it was hungry enough to maul me but I don't think I really get a say against this animal.

We just sit there in silence when it gets up on its feet and nudges me forward. It was getting darker and I guess it knew it too. I get on my feet and stumble a bit remembering that I was barefoot all this time and cut myself walking barefoot all this while. The wolf now I can is a 'he' coming closer and nudging me towards his back bending down for me.

I think I just stumbled onto a highly intelligent and gentle species of wolves like is this even possible? I climb onto his back gently hold on to his fur to not topple over and trots for a bit making sure I'm settled in before taking off into the woods.

Fuck the gently part. I am barely holding myself back from screaming my head off in the speed we were going and all the turns and jumps we were going over. It feels like a really personal rollercoaster fur without a seatbelt and I'm gripping onto his fur for dear life.

Hours passed by but this damn wolf didn't even seem to be even slightly out of breath when he finally stopped in front of a deep cave that looked like it someone lived in it a while back. What animal lived here? Bears? Would they be unnaturally gigantic too? Oh my god what is going to become of me!

I hesitate to enter but the wolf strut right in his big bushy tail swinging behind him with me following him. He moves around a bit, nudging me to stay? I don't know, but I stay put as he wanders deeper into the cave. The cave looked dark and moist from the outside but was actually warmer with a peculiar earthy scent I couldn't place a finger on. It seems like the cave wasn't used for some time and just as I getting up to explore cave deeper the wolf comes out with a slab of raw meat in his jaws.

He just drops the meat in front of me nudging me to eat it while I'm staring at this meat on the ground holding myself from gagging. He's a wolf and eats raw meat but me? I would probably die from food poisoning or parasite infestation if the wildlife here doesn't kill me first.

He starts nudging it more persistently but I push it back trying to get my refusal across which makes him let out a huff and turn away from me. Did this wolf just huff at me? I swear he is also rolling his eyes at me and probably calling me picky in his head!

He suddenly takes off into the forest leaving me alone in the cave and suddenly I feel so much more vulnerable. But it isn't long before he comes back holding a few fruits in his mouth.

I stare in disbelief, now I'm absolutely sure he understands me more than a normal animal can and that he is special in some way but right now I'm just thankful I have something to eat after starving for a whole day.

Eventually the night gets darker and the cold becomes unbearable and we sleep with me curled up against this beautiful wolf and his tail wrapped around me.
