Unimaginable Pain
The drive to the hotel felt endless. My thoughts kept circling back to her, to the way vulnerability had flickered across Cornelia's face earlier. She wasn't accustomed to kindness, that much was clear. The memory of how Trina had treated her made my jaw clench. I wanted to watch that woman suffer for every cruel word she'd thrown at Cornelia.
The hotel valet rushed to my car the moment I pulled up, bowing as if I were visiting royalty instead of just staying in my own family's property.
"Take good care of it," I muttered, tossing him the keys before heading inside.
The receptionist practically launched herself from her chair when she spotted me. "Sir David!" Her shriek echoed through the lobby, drawing unwanted attention from staff and guests alike.
"Sir David," they chorused, offering those ridiculous bows that made my skin crawl. I forced tight smiles, biting back the urge to tell them all to stop the theatrics.
