"What happened, Claire? Why did you suddenly slam the brakes?" Stephanie asked, startled.
But Claire was trembling so hard she couldn't speak. She simply pointed toward the front of the car with a shaking hand and whispered in terror, "Th-there… under the car… Dad…" Her eyes filled instantly with tears.
Hearing her words, everyone feared Claire might have hit someone. Their hearts pounded as they stepped out of the vehicle, looking all around and checking beneath it.
"Oh my God… this is an official police vehicle. If someone was hurt… if someone died… this could turn into a huge problem," Sophia murmured anxiously as she crouched to check underneath.
But even after searching for quite a while, they found no one. Stephanie, Sophia, and Lily exchanged confused looks before Lily finally said, "Maybe Claire hallucinated. If there had been an accident, we would've found blood, a body… something."
