Chapter 16 - Dragonseal Power

Lusamine could hardly believe her eyes.

The gash on Bai Chen's arm was knitting itself closed before her eyes—flesh pulling together, veins realigning, the skin reforming in seconds. The golden hue of his blood shimmered faintly under the light.

She leaned forward, eyes gleaming with scientific hunger.

"Fascinating…! That recovery rate—it's beyond any known Pokémon biology! Can I have a little of your blood to study? Just a drop!"

"No," Bai Chen said flatly.

And before she could protest, he grabbed a tissue, wiped the blood clean, and promptly flushed it down the toilet.

Lusamine's shoulders drooped, visibly heartbroken.

Bai Chen sighed. "I can tell you're interested in the monsters from my world. I'm willing to cooperate—help you research them. But in return, I'll need your help."

The Pokémon world might not have wyverns or ancient dragons, but its technology far outstripped anything in the Monster Hunter realm. If there was anyone who could build what he needed—something to contain or capture true monsters—it was Lusamine.

After all, the Aether Foundation had once designed the Beast Ball, a device capable of catching Ultra Beasts themselves.

And that kind of genius was exactly what he needed.

Lusamine brightened immediately.

"Really? You'll help me? Then whatever you need, I'll make it happen!"

She grinned, stepping forward to hug him, her hand ruffling his hair like a child with a new toy. The sheer lack of restraint made Bai Chen finally understand why Lillie was always exasperated with her mother.

He gently pushed her away.

"Fine. But there's one condition. I don't want anyone else to know about me or my world—no one except you and Lillie. Not even your closest aides."

He'd already seen how the Aether Foundation operated. Ambition ran deep, and not all of Lusamine's people were trustworthy.

She nodded, expression softening.

"I can promise that. So… when do you plan to go back to your world?"

Bai Chen glanced at the corner of his system screen—22 days remaining.

"About twenty-two days from now."

"Understood." Lusamine leaned against a nearby desk, thoughtful. "So, what kind of help do you need from me?"

After a short pause, Bai Chen spoke clearly.

"The most important thing—I want you to develop a Poké Ball capable of capturing monsters from my world. I need it ready in twenty days, if possible. And… while you're at it, could you have some custom workout equipment built for me?"

"That's all? Easy." She smiled confidently. "But to design a capture sphere powerful enough, I'll need to run a full-body analysis on Nergigante."

Bai Chen hesitated. He didn't like the idea of exposing the dragon's true nature, but right now, it was a necessary trade.

"All right," he said finally. "You can bring your instruments and perform the scan here. I'll make sure she doesn't resist."

Their conversation had just ended when Lillie came rushing back into the room.

"Mother, Mr. Bai—oh! You're up!" She hurried to his side, her expression filled with concern. "You should be resting! You were hurt in the head, you know? What if you wake up a little… slower next time?"

Bai Chen smiled, tapping his chest.

"Don't worry. I'm fine now, really."

"You say that, but your head was injured. What if you turn into an idiot later? No, you're resting."

Before he could object, Lillie had already pushed him gently back onto the bed.

Lusamine chuckled softly behind her hand.

"Well then, I'll leave you in my daughter's care. As for our agreement—I'll begin work immediately."

When she left, she didn't go far. Lusamine made her way to the training yard where the battle had taken place. The marble floor still bore the scars of combat—cracks a hand's width wide running through the stone.

She crouched down and brushed her fingers along one of them.

"What kind of energy could cause this? That power surge—it amplified dozens of times in seconds…"

Her eyes glimmered with curiosity—and a touch of fear.

Meanwhile, back in Bai Chen's room, Lillie leaned forward, curiosity flickering in her eyes.

"Mr. Bai… what did you and Mother talk about?"

Bai Chen hesitated, but only for a moment. Between the two, he trusted Lillie more. So, he told her everything—the deal, the promise of the custom Poké Ball, the cooperation between worlds.

For him, the partnership was worth the risk. Lusamine might be ambitious, but as long as she wanted knowledge from his world, she wouldn't betray him. And by the time she tried, he'd already be far beyond her reach.

"And if she ever turns against me," he added with a faint grin, "she'll have a much bigger problem to worry about."

Lillie listened in silence. Deep down, she'd already suspected he wasn't from this world. Hearing it confirmed only made her heart tighten.

"So… you'll really go back?" she asked quietly. "To your world?"

"Yes," Bai Chen said. "I still have unfinished things there. But don't worry—I'll come back."

Her eyes flickered uncertainly. "Really?"

He smiled and held out his pinky finger.

"Promise."

Lillie hesitated for a heartbeat, then hooked her finger with his. "...Then you'd better keep it."

"Of course."

Her mood brightened instantly, her smile soft again.

"Dinner's ready. I told them to bring it up for you."

Bai Chen chuckled. "You really are treating me like a kid, huh?"

"Because you act like one sometimes," she said softly.

He couldn't argue.

Later that evening, Bai Chen finally stepped out into the courtyard.

The moment Nergigante spotted him, she bounded over—massive horns gleaming, wings half-unfolded, tail sweeping the grass. She nuzzled against him affectionately, rumbling in her throat like a giant cat.

Bai Chen rubbed her scaled head, voice low.

"We've got a long road ahead of us, partner. Let's start small. First goal—learn to control that bloodlust."

Under the moonlight, the two began their training again.

This time, it was real sparring—hunter versus dragon, neither holding back.

Through the night, they clashed again and again.

And for the first time since that disastrous battle, Nergigante never lost control. Not once.

Even when Bai Chen pushed her to the brink of collapse, she stayed conscious, breathing heavy but calm.

Of course, Bai Chen didn't come out unscathed. He quickly discovered that her spines carried incredible piercing potential—each strike sharp enough to break through his enhanced defenses.

And during one of their exchanges, she awakened something new.

[New Skill Learned — Dragonseal Power (★7)]

A mastery of draconic energy manipulation. Temporarily suppresses the special abilities of dragon-type creatures. Ineffective against lesser dragons below Elder rank.

Bai Chen froze mid-swing, recognizing the name instantly.

"Dragonseal Power… that's—"

A hunter's bane and savior both. In his world, that technique existed solely to counter the ancient dragons themselves.

The Dragonsealer's mark.

It made perfect sense that Nergigante—the devourer of dragons—would awaken it naturally.

The bad news? Bai Chen's own blood wasn't entirely human anymore.

He carried the essence of an Elder Dragon, and the seal worked on him, too.

His regeneration faltered; wounds that once closed in two minutes now took three. His healing speed dropped by a full third.

The good news? The bond stone flared, and he copied the ability for himself.

Now he wasn't just an Elder-blooded hybrid—he was a dragon killer, in the truest sense of the word.

When their training finally ended, Bai Chen split a portion of roasted meat with Nergigante and leaned against her warm scales, thoughtful.

"You didn't lose control at all tonight… even under pressure. So what triggered it before?"

He replayed the battle in his mind—the moment Bewear's Zen Headbutt had struck.

"That move had a secondary effect," he murmured. "Sometimes it causes the target to flinch. But Nergigante has the Fearless trait—so what if it rejected the effect and, in turn, awakened something hidden instead?"

His eyes narrowed. That had to be it.

A psychological recoil. The headbutt didn't just hit her physically—it rattled the lock inside her blood.

"So that's what happened," he whispered. "The trigger wasn't the damage—it was resistance."

Under the quiet night sky, Nergigante dozed beside him, the faint red glow in her scales pulsing in rhythm with her heartbeat.

Bai Chen smiled faintly, closing his eyes as the stars shimmered above.

"Looks like we're both still learning what we really are."
