The new conflict did not unfold like the last one.

It carried more weight from the start. More participants, more overlapping consequences, more pressure from every side. It was the kind of situation that used to demand immediate control, the kind that would have triggered layered intervention before anyone had time to think beyond the first decision.

This time, no one rushed in to contain it.

The system held its position, calculating, preparing, but not acting. It had learned enough to recognize that stepping in too early would break something it no longer fully understood. That hesitation created space, and inside that space, the outliers moved first.

Marcus tracked the spread as it expanded across the display, his focus tightening with every new connection. "This is bigger than before," he said quietly.

Adrian nodded, eyes fixed on the shifting structure. "And no one is waiting."
